mma style 101 Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has its roots embedded deep in history, even as far back as the ancient Greek pankration (a combat sport that mixes boxing and wrestling). Modern MMA, however, has evolved to more than just boxing and wrestling. It encompasses martial arts traditions, such as Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Muay Thai kickboxing, Sambo, Taekwondo, wrestling, and even straight-out street brawling. Just like the sport itself, MMA clothing is a mixture of different fashion genres. It’s streetwear infused with warrior iconography from Asian and Mediaeval cultures. It’s couture fashion with images symbolizing slaughter and casualty. It’s cut and sew fashion mixed with religious metaphors. It’s a fusion of the current and the past, and just like the sport it represents, MMA fashion varies in style, but all are rich in tradition.
