School: School of Business Author: Patrick O’Callaghan Description This module provides learners with relevant work experience with an industry partner for a minimum period of six months. In addition to acquiring new skills, learners will have an opportunity to apply and reinforce the academic knowledge and practical, applied skills they have acquired during the taught element of the programme. Aims 1. To increase the employment prospects of the learner by providing them with an opportunity to gain experience of analysing, researching and solving real-world ICT projects. 2. To provide learners with an opportunity to implement, in a practical way, the academic aspects of their chosen specialism of study. 3. To increase the learner’s awareness of the work environment and the possible career paths available to the learner on completion of this programme. 4. To enable the learner to further develop, apply and refine a range of personal and interpersonal skills. 5. To provide the learner the opportunity to work as a member of a team responsible for achieving defined goals and implementing agreed plans. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this module, learners will be able to: 1. Work competently in a professional ICT environment with responsibility for the timely delivery of agreed goals 2. Demonstrate a clear understanding of ‘real world’ practical issues in the ICT areas of work that they have been assigned while in placement 3. Appraise the business model and mission statement of the placement company. 4. Apply a range of personal and interpersonal skills in the workplace such as written and oral communication, self-motivation, initiative, organisation and time management, objective setting and team working. 5. Reflect on and analyse the learning experience resulting from the work placement. 6. Produce an end-of-placement report detailing the experiences and achievements of their placement.
