Lagos saves victim of 25-year long domestic violence abuse
In line with the mandate of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration to stem the tide of all forms of abuse, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) has intervened in a case of domestic violence that had been perpetrated for over 25 years by a man on his wife. Coordinator of the DSVRT, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi in a statement, said the case was brought to fore when a relative of the victim spoke out to the media on the ordeal. She said the Team immediately proceeded to contact the victim, Mrs. Oridota Oladele, a 63 year old and bread winner of her home, to enlighten her on her rights, support services at her disposal, and ascertain what she wanted out of the situation. “The Director of Citizens’ Rights, Mrs Omotilewa Ibirogba, with other team members met with her, and she insisted that all she required was officials of government to talk to her husband to desist from acts of physical, psychological, emotional and verbal abuses which are all crimes contrary to the Prevention Against Domestic Violence Law, 2007. “A referral letter was subsequently written to Isokoko Police Station which is a representative of the Police Force in DSVRT and houses a Family Support Unit. Some members of the Team also accompanied the victim to the Station where the matter was duly reported.
Princess Adenrele Adeniran-Ogunsanya
Daniel Alabrah FORMER LAGOS SSG, PRINCESS DENRELE BECOMES OWU CHIEF Everyone who witnessed the classic turbaning of Chief (Princess) Adenrele Adeniran-Ogunsanya, former Secretary to the Lagos State Government under former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola as a Chief, ‘Omowonuade’ title in the Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta last week Friday October 2nd 2015 by the Paramount ruler of the Kingdom, Oba of Owu, Kabiyesi (Dr) Olusanya Adegboyega Dosunmu (Amororo II) will but agree that it was a well deserved one. This is considering the outpouring of encomiums showered on the Princess. The event which attracted Business and Political bigwigs in the society was held inside the Palace of the Monarch, Abeokuta, Ogun State as part of activities to mark this years Owu Day Festival. The annual Owu Day festival tradition started in 1999 and has attracted participation by several Owu indigenes and people from all over the world. On October 9, 2010, the Olowu of Owu Oba Dosunmu publicly declared the second weekend of the month of October as Owu’s public celebration of the goodness of the Almighty God. This declaration was made to usher in the new Omo Olowu festival which is to henceforth replace the previous Owu Day Festival. According to the Oba while speaking and explaining the literary meaning of the title: “it is a special Chieftaincy title given Princes or Princesses; she has ceased to bear Adenrele but now ‘Omowonuade’. Many do not know she’s also our daughter here, I have been all over her to accept the title for long but she has been reluctant, I thank God she accepted it today. Everybody will agree with me it’s purely on merit’. Princess who was full of praises for the Monarch and the entire Owu Kingdom at large said: “It has been a well deserved home coming for me, my great, great, great, grand-mother was married to them in Owu so I am at home here. The title is on me to keep projecting the socio-cultural heritage of the Kingdom and that of Yoruba at large well as I used to”.
The ‘Best of Ajegunle City’ Awards has been bestowed on the former Head of Media and Communication of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Mr. Daniel Alabrah as he was voted the most ‘Outstanding voice of the people 2015’ in Ajegunle, Lagos. The award was in recognition of the very best inspiring talents to have emerged from Nigeria’s most famous ghetto community. Allabrah who was excited to be honoured by Ajegunle community said: “ I don’t see anybody who gets an award and is not excited, am particularly excited because this is coming from people who know me, I grew up in this community and I moved on from this community, but I didn’t forget the community. I will say that I’m happy that my own people recognise me, all I can say is that awards are meant to spur you to greater heights. “I can also thank God that he made it possible for me to come out of a community like this that people do not reckon with, but the story today has changed, the story of Ajegunle is no more the same. No one would believe that somebody like me could come out of that environment, but today here I am a proud representative of Ajegunle community and am not ashamed to say it because the president of a country could be the child of a poor man. I am happy to have made impact beyond Ajegunle.” The president of the Best city award, Mallam Afrika, told Daily Times about the initiative: “It’s an inspiration bringing all the talents together to bring out the very best in them, it’s like a competition I started over three months ago, we have the best M.C, the best D.J, Best makeup artistes etc, trying to bring the very best from all of them. It’s a competition that has to do with voting, talent display and eventually the best of the best is what we see today and that’s why we are here celebrating, Adding that, “It’s just a vision of discovering and building talents from the grassroots, we don’t have any supporters yet, but we believe that good things can always come out from the ghetto, that’s why we are doing this, this is just a maiden edition, by the next edition we intend to give out a car and other gifts.”
