Winning has always been every contestant’s wish -A’rese Emokpae 28-year-old A’rese Emokpae, winner of the first edition of the Voice Nigeria musical competition, has disclosed that winning the coveted star prize of a musical deal worth millions of naira with international recording company, Universal music, a brand new SUV jeep valued at 7M courtesy M-Net and a four days trip for two to Abu Dhabi courtesy Etihad Airways, was the dream of every other contestants in the competition but her winning power was made possible after Nigerians voted her as the ultimate. A’rese who have appeared in various theatre acts and musicals stage performances that includes the popular ‘Wakaa the Musical,’ noted that she is fully ready for the industry and as such excited that she will be exploring her talent across the country. However, during the last Sunday performance, A’rese took to the stage and elicited screams as she literally kicked off her shoes performing ‘Freedom’. Following A’rese’s performance was the nerve wracking unveiling of the top four finalists. Making the cut from Team 2baba was Brenda, while A’rese made it through from TeamWaje. Chike made it from TeamPatoranking and Cornel made it through for TeamTimi as the nail biting evening progressed. Cornel returned to the stage as he raised the roof with Lionel Ritchie’s All Night Long. Chike followed and got the ladies swooning with Kiss Daniel’s Mama and A’rese took to the stage afterwards with an emotional performance of Hallelujah whilst the bubbly Brenda rocked the stage with Wizkid’s Ojuelegba. It is pertinent to note that all the eight finalist will also enjoy a recording deal with Universal music.

Scores high entries as submission closes With massive response from African music professionals that polled close to 3,000 entries, the International Committee of the All African Music Awards, AFRIMA, has closed the submission of entries for the 2016 edition of the continental awards tagged AFRIMA 3.0. The annual entries submission process which is open to African music artistes, music professionals and other stakeholders living on the continent and in the Diaspora, commenced on May 30 and closed on July 30. A total number of 2,714 entries were received. South Africa’s rap King, Cassper Nyovest has finally released the long anticipated video for his hit song 428 To LA. The super hit track which features Los Angeles’s finest, Casey Veggies and was produced by Anatii, blew up the airwaves in 2015, topping music charts for months. The video was directed by Cassper Nyovest and Cidefx films and has been released exclusively to MTV Base on the 29th of July, 2016. However, it was released on YouTube on Monday, August 1, 2016. The video is a depiction of Cassper’s journey to stardom. The movie-like video shows the rapper on a trip to Los Angeles from New
York. The song which is rendered in a combination of Swahili and English is the perfect definition of lyrical perfection. The song embodies various themes but mostly centres on the rapper’s journey to fame and his enviable achievements. The traditional elements of rap such as lyrical rhyming and flow is not elusive in this song which is one reason the song enjoyed massive airplay in 2015.
