Lagos businessman petitions IGP over alleged police, OPC harassment Titilope Joseph

ÏÏÏA Save-Our-Soul (SOS) call

has been made by a Lagos-based businessman, Alhaji Waheed Ogunbiyi, (popularly known as Oguns), through his counsel Kayode Oduba, to the office of Inspector-General of Police, to caution some of his officers, who were being used to harassed him over a matter that was pending before a Lagos High Court. A letter written by his counsel, Kadyode Oduba, alleged that a senior police officer attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Adeniji Adele Road, Lagos, was being used to harass him over a property belonging to one Mr. Patrick

Amadasun. Ogunbiyi is also seeking protection from human rights organistions, following alleged violation of his fundamental rights by men of SARS and members of the Odua People’s Congress (OPC), over a property that is situated at No. 1, Gbajumo Street, Balogun Idumota, Lagos. Speaking through his lawyer, Ogunbiyi said that he was introduced to the former owner of the plaza on No1. Gbajumo Street, one Mr. Amadasun, who was trying to lease the property to someone, who would manage it for some years, in 2013, and they agreed that, he (Alhaji Oguns) will manage it for five years and that the sum of N60million would

be paid to him (Amadasun). “After receiving 50% of the agreed price, Mr. Amadasun kept breaching the agreement and had also attempted to take over the plaza through dubious means. He accused me of threatening his life and I was arrested and detained at Ebute-Ero Police Station for malicious and illegal demolition. I was arraigned before a Magistrate Court and granted bail by Magistrate A.O. Lawal. “Thereafter, there have been constant harassment and unlawful arrest by police and members of OPC who all claimed to be acting on Mr. Patrick’s instructions”, he said. According to Ogunbiyi,

Amadasun had also tried to take over the plaza by disrupting renovation works after he had collected 50% of the agreed payment. “I reported the matter at Federal Investigation Bureau (FIB) Ikoyi, and we had another valid agreement and he increased the money to N80million for a tenyear lease and I paid him the 100% of the amount he demanded. “On another occasion, he colluded with some touts to pose as town planning officials from Lagos State to stop work on the site with the claims that the building will collapse, but when I asked for the documents they possess to effect such action, they were unable to provide it and they left in shame.

wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Rachel Umahi, will, on Tuesday, next week kickstart a campaign against female genital mutilation, under her pet project, Family Succor and Upliftment Programme. In a release signed by her Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Donatus Owo, Mrs. Umahi would bring together partner agencies, medical experts and traditional rulers, who would brainstorm on how to stop the scourge in the state. The release noted that Mrs. Umahi was collaborating with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to organise the event. The release described female genital mutilation as a health hazard and quite dehumanisation against women and which must be stopped. She called for collective fight against the scourge, adding that it had no medical benefit to a woman.

Okorocha seeks Nigerians’ understanding with Buhari that duty of care. So, let them just be a bit patient with us and as soon as this (2016) budget starts rolling out, and when the programme starts rolling out, they will forget that there was a period that was as painful as this.” He went further to say, “Thank God we are still united and together as a people; we shall overcome the challenges.” Okorocha described Bello as a man with strong will to rid the territory of shanties and other environmental nuisances

defacing the capital city. According to him, “What we want in Abuja is a decent environment. This is our capital and it should look like a capital that is not being defaced by shanties or whatever other kind of environmental nuisances. “I am sure we are going to see a new Abuja, which we will all be truly proud of. “And what I have seen now in Abuja is that the minister’s commitment to come up with laudable programmes. I am sure that Abuja is going to wear a

new look. “He, the FCT Minister, has the strong will to take care of the people putting up shanties in FCT; he has the political will to fix Abuja. “And that is what we need – a person, who has the strong will to make sure that people keep Abuja clean; streetlight is shining; water is running; the beautiful landscape enhanced and so on. It is our city capital and he is equal to the task and he will do it.”
