Boko Haram wreaks havoc in Kutuva, soldiers recover munitions ÎÎÎSome elements of Boko Haram
terrorists on six motorcycles, on Wednesday, attacked Kutuva village in which they killed four persons and abducted four women from the village. Consequently, the local vigilante in Kaya mobilised immediately to the village and trailed the terrorists up to their suspected hideout located somewhere south of Sabon Garin Bale. In a statement released by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, said that the vigilantes did their best by engaging the terrorists, unfortunately they escaped into the
bush. But the courageous vigilantes destroyed the terrorist’s camp and recovered all hoisted Boko Haram terrorists’ flags, 3 Fabrique Nationale (FN) rifle magazines, 2 AK-45 rifle magazines and 24 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition. The vigilantes also rescued an 11-year-old girl who stated that she was abducted by the terrorists from Batha village. Sadly, however, the vigilante could not trace the terrorists or the abducted women. However, effort is ongoing to trace and rescue them. In a related development, a team of local vigilante in Damboa, led by Sarkin Yaki Ali Gwoza, intercepted
some persons along Njaba road, south of Damboa town while on patrol. During preliminary interrogation, they confessed that they were Boko Haram terrorists group members that were compelled to join the insurgency against their will and that they were on their way to Damboa to surrender to the military. They attributed their decision to give up their nefarious activities because of the continued military onslaught and that life has become hard and unbearable for the terrorists generally. Further screening has confirmed 17 of them as hardened Boko Haram terrorists trying to escape and
infiltrate the society. Similarly, a combined patrol team of 7 Division Garrison, 101 Special Forces Battalion and 3 Civilian JTF, while on clearance patrol, intercepted a Golf car with registration number BX 508 RBC, suspected to be carrying suppliers of logistics such as spare parts and Improvised Explosives making devices materials to Boko Haram terrorists along Kayamla general area on Tuesday morning. Edo 2016: Arrest those cloning PVCs, Ogiemwonyi tells IGP Titus Akhigbe Benin
ÎÎÎAhead
of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries slated for Saturday, there are fears that it may be marred on account of gross irregularities. Reliable sources within the top hierarchy of the party’s leadership told correspondents in a chat on Wednesday that steps should be taken to ensure that the process is hitch free and that proceedings should be handled in such a way that confidence is instilled before and at the end of the process. The fear, we gathered, is occasioned by the allegation that some decision makers of the party who are hell bent on fostering an unpopular aspirant on the over 2000 party delegates, have been perpe-
trating illegalities like poaching of INEC’s Permanent Voters Card (PVC) all with the intention of cloning such cards to the advantage of their supporters. Voicing his concerns against the illegalities, one of the leading aspirants, Engr. Chris Osa Ogiemwonyi alleged that those behind the dirty game are well respected leaders of the party who need to be checkmated before they cause havoc to the party’s image and chance to return to the state Government House by November. He averred that his fears for the party is “the fear of the unknown as agents of a particular aspirant are going round collecting the PVCs of the party delegates with the mind of cloning them.” Reacting to what he tagged the ‘absurdity of the year in APC’, Agene Patrick, the coordinator of
a respected sociopolitical group in the state, Edo N’gheria, said: “these agents of darkness are bent on disrupting the peace of the state in their devilish bid to foster an unpopular person on the party and the state all in their desire to protect their shady business interests. “The people of the state, especially the APC delegates should be at alert to repel these characters” Patrick said. He advised the party’s national team to ensure that the names of delegates are published in at least five national newspapers on the day of the primaries and also that security checks should be made such that the identity of each delegate should be well authenticated with the use of modern security gadgets before they are allowed entry into the venue.

Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello, on Wednesday, said there is no wisdom in scrapping the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) since the primary objective of the programme is very relevant in the nation. Bello, who said that NYSC still remains an enduring vehicle for national unity, urged the federal government to reinvigorate the scheme rather than scrapping it. The governor made his stand known at the formal opening ceremony of the 2016 Batch ‘A’ (Stream Two) orientation course and swearing in ceremony of Corps members deployed to Niger state. According to him, “the NYSC established 43 years ago still remain an enduring vehicle for national unity and integration in the country. In my opinion, the primary objective of the scheme is to develop common ties among Nigerian youths and to promote national unity and integration, and I feel this is still very relevant.
