Nenuwa emerges Best Graduating Student in LASPOTECH ÏÏÏ0 Ƌ ƑƏ Ɔ graduands to be employers of labour Mutiat Alli & Fagbemi Ademola Evelyn Osarumese Nenuwa has come out tops as the Best Graduating Student in the Higher National Diploma category of the Lagos State Polytechnic, (LASPOTECH), with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.89. The Science Laboratory Technology (Chemistry option) student in the School of Pure and Applied Science, was won the laurel at the 23rd convocation
ceremony held at the school’s main campus in Ikorodu. Nenuwa, 26, also received won other several laurels, including the Academic Board Prize; Rector’s Award; Muyiwa Sunday Osikoya Memorial Award; Alumni Association Award; Gabriel Popoola Sodeinde Memorial Award; Victoria Morenike Sodeinde Memorial Award; Madam Margaret Omobowale Gasper Memorial Award; Madam Anifatu Eletu-Edibo Memorial Award; Fasasi Dehinbo Oloro Memorial Award; Mrs. Abiodun Oshin Memorial Award; Ajibike Taofeek Memorial Award and BalogunOluwa Memorial Award. dents, Nenuwa thanked parents and guardians, saying their never-ending financial and moral support assisted them to succeed in their academic pursuits. Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), urged the graduands to be confident in creating jobs, not only for themselves, but, for others job seekers across the globe. Fashola, who was represented by the Special Adviser on Education, Chief Fatai Olukoga, noted that the Polytechnic had impacted the lives of students with what would make them self-sufficient in life, “We want our students to leave school as well-rounded people who will be able to, not only work, but, create jobs for others”.
Students of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, recently, converged on the new lecture theatre, to welcome new students with the Theatre la’danza show, organised by the Department of Theatre and Media Arts. The two-day show, according to the Chief Choreographer and Initiator, Dr. (Mrs.) Mariam Iyeh, is an annual event organised by the Department to welcome new students. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs.) Cordelia Agbebaku, in her opening remarks, commended the department for, religiously, hosting the programme, over the years, stressing that there was the need for students to relate and have fun. With performances from various ethnic groups, through music, comedy and contemporary dance, the event also witnessed award presentation to deserving students. Dignitaries at the event included Dr. E. Ewakareh, Prof. C. Isiramen, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Dr C.O. Aluede, Head, Department of Theatre and Media Arts, Prof. Prince Oguele, Dr. Josephine Abi, Mrs. Alero Uwaya and Mrs. Abumen, the Chief Liberian.
Dr. Akera, seven times on top Odeyemi Olawale, (UNILORIN) As the University of Ilorin graduated 64 medical students from the College of Health Sciences, in Ilorin penultimate Wednesday, a female medical student, Miss Akera Ganiyat Ade, has bagged the highest award during the induction ceremony. She was the cynosure of all eyes at the ceremony as she got a standing ovation from the happy crowd. Her continual appearance
on the podium to receive one award or the other was the cause of the applause. Igbo students celebrate culture Jennifer Umeh, (Offa Poly) It was a fun-filled day at The Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, when students of Igbo tribe, celebrated their culture on a day, popularly, tagged the Igbo Day. Clad in different attires, the students, under the aegis of Federation of Igbo Students Association (FISA), converged on the Farm Pulse Hotel, venue of the programme. The event, which was organised to showcase the cultural heritage of the Igbo, was graced by members of the Igbo community in Kwara, including Mr. T.N. Njoku, who was as the Father of the Day. Others were the chairman on the occasion, Engr. Uche Okeafor, Mr. Patrick Anonyuo, Imo State chairman of Offa, Nze Chinweoke E. Frank, and Mr. Azuka Emodi. President of the association, Igwe Ejike Ogechukwu, advised members of the need to promote the Igbo language and culture. Guest were thrilled by the recitation of proverbs (Inu), News casting (Akuko Uwa), cultural dance and choreography. A 100-Level Mass Communication student, Ebele Igwemezie, disclosed to Inside Campus that the messages of Inu (proverbs) and the drums were to educate and prick the conscience of the people to always be truthful. Highlight of the occasion included the presentation of awards to some dignitaries, launching of the association’s Heritage Magazine and coronation of the new Igwe and his executive committee.
