Help save energy in the workplace

E

veryone has a responsibility to help reduce the electric bill in the office. There are a number of ways to do this. Below are some examples:

Upgrade your office equipment. If you are still using old models of computers, printers, copy machines, and other types of office equipment, it is time to replace these with energy-efficient models. This way, you can lower your energy consumption in the office between 50% to 90% which may mean a lot of savings.

Unlpug all electrical and electronic products at the end of each workday. You think screen savers on computers and idle modes on other types of equipment are enough to save on energy? Think again. Even at those states, they still consume energy. So, it is better and wiser to unplug them, including all other appliances in the office when you leave for home.

 Use natural sunlight. If your office gets enough amount of sunlight, take advantage of it so you can turn off the lights completely for less energy consumption. Trim the trees and bushes near your windows so you can have much sunlight and reduce shadows. Also, try to enhance the effect of natural light on your workstation by painting the walls of your office white or other light shades.  Install weather strips on doors and around windows. You don’t want to let air from escaping your office when the air conditioner is turned on, do you? To prevent it, make sure you keep the openings on your doors and around windows tightly sealed by installing weather strip. Aside from keeping interior air in, weatherstriiping also prevents rain and water from entering your office room.

Clean and repair the heating, venting, and air conditioning (HVAC) system regularly. Dirty and defective HVAC system will definitely impact adversely on your electric bills. Make sure to clean or replace the HVAC filters in your office at least once a month. Do the same for evaporators, condensers, coils, and heat exchanger surfaces and see how your electric consumption goes down.
