Dear friends, It is my pleasure to welcome you to the fourth season of the Dance Series. This season, Des Moines Performing Arts is pleased to present Alonzo King LINES Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Trey McIntyre Project. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Alonzo King LINES Ballet nurtures dynamic artistry and the development of authentic, creative expression through dance. Master choreographer Alonzo King collaborates with artists of diverse cultural backgrounds to develop original new works. For example, Resin explores the possibilities of the vast and diverse field of music of the Sephardic Jews. And, King’s Scheherazade is a new take on the Persian, Sanskrit and Arabic stories of 1,001 Nights. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is one of the most well-known dance companies in the world. Alvin Ailey choreographed the ground-breaking Revelations in 1960 as a tribute to his Southern religious roots. It tells the story of African-American faith and tenacity from slavery to freedom through a suite of dances set to spirituals and blues music. We are thrilled to bring this legendary company – and a legendary work – to the Civic Center stage. We also look forward to presenting the Trey McIntyre Project in May, and later in the season we will share with you more information about a new work being created by the company that will be performed during the Des Moines engagement. Be sure to stay after this evening’s presentation for DANCEtalk—an intimate, in-theater conversation with the artistic staff and performers. This experience is also offered prior to each dance performance in the series. We are very grateful to those of you who purchased season tickets for the Dance Series and to our Dance VIPs, as it is your support that makes this series possible.
