PROTEGEMOS LA SIERRA NEVADA WE PROTECT THE SIERRA NEVADA En enero del 2014 un incendio afectó tres mil hectáreas de la vereda La Secreta, en el sector del Guacamayo y Siberia, dentro del municipio de Ciénaga (Magdalena). Este hecho fue producto de las quemas que usualmente hacen los campesinos para preparar los terrenos para que sean cultivables.
In January 2014 a fire affected three thousand hectares of the village of La Secreta in the Guacamayo and Siberia sector, in the municipality of Ciénaga (Magdalena). This flare-up was the result of the burning that the farmers usually carry out to prepare the land to be cultivated.
Ante dicha emergencia y debido a la escasez de agua en la región, el Departamento de Bomberos de Ciénaga solicitó nuestra colaboración para combatir el incendio, e inmediatamente nos ofrecimos a aportar el agua que fuera necesaria.
In response to this emergency, and given the lack of water in the region, the Fire Department of Ciénaga asked for our help in fighting the fire, and we immediately offered to provide as much water as needed.
De hecho, entregamos más de 70 mil galones de agua, provenientes de nuestra reserva de Puerto Drummond, los cuales transportamos a través de carrotanques. Además, pusimos a disposición nuestras instalaciones, durante aproximadamente seis meses, para los siguientes propósitos:
In fact, we delivered more than 70 thousand gallons of water from our reserves at Puerto Drummond, which we transported using tanker trucks. We also made our facilities available for approximately six months, for the following purposes:
Ubicación de una Sala de Crisis como espacio de decisión para las entidades involucradas.
To locate a Crisis Center as a decision-making space for the agencies involved.
Brindar hospedaje y alimentación a los miembros de la Fuerza Aérea Colombiana.
To provide lodging and food for members of the Colombian Air Force.
Prestar el servicio de helipuerto para el aterrizaje de helicópteros de la Fuerza Aérea.
To provide heliport service so that Air Force helicopters could land.
Debido a la gravedad de la emergencia, hasta agosto (después de meses de constante lucha) se logró apagar las llamas, que pusieron en riesgo a las poblaciones vecinas y afectaron cultivos, especies de árboles y de fauna. Esto fue posible gracias al trabajo en conjunto con la Unidad Nacional para la Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres, la Defensa Civil, la Cruz Roja, la Fuerza Aérea Colombiana y los Cuerpos de Bomberos de Ciénaga y Santa Marta. Nuestro apoyo en el manejo de esta crisis ha sido reconocido por diferentes entidades y la comunidad.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, by August (after months of constant fighting) they were able to put out the flames that threatened the neighboring towns and that affected crops, trees and wildlife species. All of this was made possible thanks to our teamwork with the National Disaster Risk Management Unit, the Civil Defense, the Red Cross, the Colombian Air Force and the Fire Fighters of Ciénaga and Santa Marta. The company’s support in handling this crisis has been recognized by various agencies and by the community.
