PROJECT DESCRIPTION

FLOOR PLAN

This urban high rise condo was designed for a single female in her 30’s needing not only a place for herself and her business, but also for frequent family guests who spend the night, including her niece and nephew. She’s an advertising executive and free lance blogger and social media expert, needing a home office. She entertains industry peers and family and she loves to cook fresh and maintains a small garden. She loves low maintance interiors and wants an urban modern style with hints of historic influence.

GLOBAL DESIGN

TURKISH DESIGN In the turkish bedroom retreat, the signifigacant innovations made by the Anatolian Seljuks were taken into account. Stucco Walls, stonework and wood carving can all be found within this design. The headboard in particular, carved from wood in an arabesque pattern adds casual interst to the wall. The geometric patterns are hand tied into the area rug and adds even more texture to the room. As in any Ottoman Empire design, a domed ceiling and arched lines mimics the traditions of the area. Neutral wall colors allow for a more modern feeling, even though the traditional deep blues and reds are still used.

CHINESE GARDEN DESIGN Using traditional chineese colors of red and green, I created a serene and peaceful private walled garden. Using the ying and yang design philosophy, the entrance is green and lush with the crooked paths so the evil spirits can’t follow its users. Once past the first set of walls we enter the water areas, with the mountains in the distanct background. The entrance to the garden is guarded by a topiary dragon as well as the rear wall. Statues of Budda and Chineese lanterns guide visitors to the largest retreat, reserved for the owners and special guests.

ARABIAN NIGHTS This modernized Algerian bedroom is located off the main courtyard. Traditional Algerian patterned screens cover the windows to allow for proper ventilation. The ceiling has a beautifully tiled mosaic pattern to gaze upon while in bed. With sheer white curtains for privacy if closed, the exposed ornate patterns of the screen are still visable due to the light from outside. A modern wood planked feature wall adds texture behind the bed with rustic undertones. Although bedrooms in this region are small, this tranquil room will still inspire and rejuvenate.

SENIOR LIVING

PROJECT INTENT According to the news reports, there will be more seniors than children age 14 and under as of 2020. 85% of middle class seniors feel it is more difficult to maintain their standard of living today than 10 years ago. This planned retirement community will address the housing needs of seniors ages 62 and older, with annual fixed incomes ranging from $30,000 - $80,000. Supplemental aid will be provided and charged only as deemed necessary. The design approach will maintain a modern aesthetic, giving a fresh and exciting environment. We will determine an ideal design that merges independent and assisted living within a suburban or rural community

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

CLIENT

SITE ANALYSIS

This project will focus on providing affordable housing to middle-class senior citizens across the United States and Canada. By bringing independent merchants and businesses to the seniors clubhouse, which is open to the public, we will lower operating costs which will benefit the residents of the community. The conveniences of a privately run senior community, without the cost or exclusion from the real world.

DESIGN THEORIES COLOR THEORY APPLICATIONS

Dark blues, like navy, are excellent for corporate sites or designs where strength and reliability are important. Bright blues can be energizing and refreshing. Light blues are often relaxed and calming. Blue is also used extensively to represent calmness and responsibility. Light blues can be refreshing and friendly. Dark blues are more strong and reliable. Blue is also associated with peace and has spiritual and religious connotations in many cultures and traditions

BIOPHILIC DESIGN

Proven to improve overall health and wellness by reconnecting with the natural world.

Green is a very down-to-earth color. It can represent new beginnings and growth. It also signifies renewal and abundance. It’s appropriate for designs related to wealth, stability, renewal, and nature. Brighter greens are more energizing and vibrant, while olive greens are more representative of the natural world. Dark greens are the most stable and representative of affluence.

Yellow is often considered the brightest and most energizing of the warm colors. It’s associated with happiness and sunshine. Yellow is also associated with hope, as can be seen in some countries when yellow ribbons are displayed by families who have loved ones at war. gold-hued yellows can sometimes look antique and be used in designs where a sense of permanence is desired.

UNIVERSAL DESIGN

PATTERN LANGUAGE

Actively produces environments accessible to older people, children, people with disabilites and without.

Everything we build should grow naturally and that patterns should be used to support that growth.
