FREY-FIL CORPORATION LAYING DOWN THE FOUNDATION

FOR THE FUTURE

LAYING DOWN THE FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE WHEN FREY-FIL, THEN KNOWN AS Constress Philippines, Inc. started out in the construction business almost two decades ago OJO KINDLY SPECIFY YEAR, little did it know that it would also lay down the ground work for the many significant turning points in the country’s economy. At the time, government expansion projects heralded the beginning of accelerated nation building by way of infrastructure. The long stretches of roads, bridges and the flyovers in the country stood as symbols of the country’s economic progress. We at Frey-Fil knew that it order to fulfill its role in nation building, we needed to develop new ways to keep up with the demand without compromising quality, durability, and safety. Felipe F. Cruz, then-president of Frey-Fil represented the company in its negotiation with F.K.K. Kyokuto Kogen Shinko, Co., Ltd of Tokyo, Japan to negotiate the use of world-renowned FREYSSINET method of post-tensioning. While already used

and accepted widely on a global level, the method had yet to be introduced to the Philippine market. In 1972, Frey-FIl was appointed the exclusive Philippine franchise holder of the FREYSINNET method. The post-tensioning method was versatile, durable and promised to cut construction costs and time in half. It was exactly what the markets we serviced needed at the time. Post–tensioning was introduced in the construction of the Indonesian Embassy Building in Makati OJO WHEN? and with its remarkable initial success, other projects from the government followed such as the Gapan-Penaranda Bridge Project in Nueva Ecija. Since then the company has expanded is operations and grown its product portfolio to include tension, glass fiber reinforced concrete and construction management, among others. For close to forty years, we have been the recognized and trusted name among builders and contractors when it comes to construction. Today, no other company can offer end-to-end construction solutions as Frey-Fil. When we build a structure, we know we are laying down the foundation for the future.

ISO 9001-2000 CERTIFICATION: WORLD-CLASS AND BEST IN CLASS AS A COMPANY, FREY-FIL IS constantly striving towards higher standards of reliability, efficiency and service. The proven ability to examine each project in detail and within economic restraints, propose or devise original solutions with practical advantages or financial benefits has led to our pioneering the development of the many construction innovations. In September 2002, Frey-Fil became the first precast/prestressed concrete specialty contractor to be recognized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on its implemented Quality Management System (QMS). QMS is a set of interrelated elements used to establish policies and objectives in directing and controlling an organization with regard to quality. This system follows the Plan-Do-CheckAct (PCDA) cycle from determining customer requirements to customer satisfaction focusing on the continual improvement of

the QMS through the processes on management responsibility resource management product realization and measurement analysis and improvement.

MAJOR PRODUCT LINES

REVOLUTIONIZING THE PHILIPPINE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY FOR MORE THAN FOUR DECADES, Frey-Fil has stood at the forefront of revolutionizing the Philippine construction industry. From the introduction of post-tensioning technology which effectively cut construction cost and time in half, Frey-Fil has been the industry leader in developing not only groundbreaking construction products, but in delivering end-to-end construction solutions.

Our products: Concrete

PRECAST CONCRETE IS PRODUCED BY molding concrete using a defined reusable form, curing it in a precast plant and making it ready for use and installation at the project site. Production of the precast concrete in the Frey-Fil plant ensures that the concrete is properly cured and its workmanship is strictly monitored and certified by our plant engineers.

The relative soft soil condition of Metro Manila and the various government reclamation projects make precast and prestressed concrete foundation and sheet piles the construction material of choice. Concrete ensures both structural integrity and stability. No single product has been instrumental in launching the pre-stressed concrete industry in the Philippines than the development of pre-stressed concrete piles. The production of precast concrete is done at ground level in our plants. This totally eliminates the need for on-site production and allows for a higher level of safety for everyone working on the project. In 1992, Frey-Fil was the only fabricator chosen by four general contractors to supply the pre-cast / pre-stressed girders and post-tensioning work for eight major flyovers constructed in Metro Manila.

Today, Frey-Fil technology and signature of structural integrity may be seen in almost every major thoroughfare in the country ranging from the construction of flyovers, bridges, and pedestrian overpasses. . Application of post-tensioning and pre-stressing is also found during the construction of light rail transit systems. Common applications

of pre-stressing include the construction of the various stations along the railway and the fabrication of precast sleepers. Frey-Fil has been privileged to be contracted by several private sector institutions to take part in the construction of several business structures that dominate the landscape of the bustling metropolis.

Our products: Post-tensioning

THE CONCRETE COMPONENT IS CAST with steel reinforcing strands installed in a way that protects them from bonding with concrete. Engineering science shows that concrete is strong in compression, but weak in tension1. On the other hand, steel is strong under forces of tension. The technology of posttensioning involves reinforcing concrete with steel rods that are installed in a such way that prevents them from bonding with the concrete. The result is an effective and efficient way of combining the strength of concrete and steel and producing enduring construction components. 1

Post-tensioning is incomparable when it comes to the versatility of its application to building, bridges, harbors, piers, off-shore structures and water supply strucutres such as tanks and reservoirs. Other considerations for the use of post-tensioning inclue the long, unobstructd span, environmental conditions of the country, mass and weight of structural members, aesthetic considertion and the cost of labor and material make box grider type of bridge super structure an ideal bridge construction method. FREY-FIL is the recognized leader in bridge technology using post-tensioning. Many major grider bridges and in the country have been built using our post-tensioning technology. Our Products: GLASS FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE

GLASS FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE (GFRC) is a general term for components made up of cement combined with glass fiber to strengthen the cement mix. The application of glass fiber reinforced concrete is a concept that combines established methods of construction with modern technology to combat increasing labor and material costs. GFRC is a Portland cement-based composite with alkaliresistant glass fibers that are randomly distributed throughout the product. GFRC is a durable, versatile and cost-effective modern material with limitless possibilities. It is aesthetically acceptable and a natural substitute for many of the traditional materials in the construction industry. It has neither the bulk or brittleness of cement-based products and can be prefabricated and molded into exact and intricate shapes and is relatively lightweight. When applied in buildings GFRC creates an impression of a massive concrete structure that is actually made of thin and

lightweight concrete material. GFRC is also used for road signs, zone barriers, drainage pipes and irrigation channels, as are streets, patios and open gardens. In which ever way it is used, GFRC allows for architecturally creativity because of the flexibility it offers in designing the most visible element of the structure. ADVANTAGES OF GFRC: Durability •  Its high impact strength minimizes breakage in manufacturing and handling, providing a tough and lasting finish •  The glass fibers allows the production of strong yet lightweight, architectural products Versatility •  GFRC can be made into many colors, textures and shapes from deep reveals to complex rectilinear and curvilienear forms. •  GFRC finds application in diverse interior and exterior structure and utilities.

Thin and lightweight •  The low weight of the GFRC decreases load on the building’s structural frame allowing for limitless creative architectural design possibilities. •  Allows contractor to quickly and efficiently install them in even hard-to-reach areas with smaller and less expensive cranes. •  GFRC is not considered as a vertical load-carrying component or as part of the lateral load-resisting system although it can resist lateral wind loads and its own seismic loads. Non-combustibile and highly fire resistant: •  GFRC does not add to the fire load of a building because it is organic and does not contain materials that will burn or produce noxious gases. •  GFRC can be designed to provide the various degrees of fire resistance that may be required by building codes, insurance companies and other authorities.

Maintenance–free •  GFRC is impervious to corrosion, insect and biological infestation and is appropriate in a wide range of environmental conditions because it is composed of non-metallic and inorganic materials. •  Can also be designed to be water-repellant and stain-free Energy Saving •  GFRC application can result in dramatic energy savings in the air-conditioning system when used as double-skin cladding panels filled with appropriate insulating materials. •  Aside from its insulating properties, GFRC is usually combined with other insulators to provide the necessary building requirements.
