photography portfolio, volume IV [2022]

this annual photobook is the final in a series of four, with each year’s content deciding the framework for the books themselves. whatever images i gather throughout the year define the direction of the books, as i work in the inbetween of the new year and the one past.

The books mirror the start of my journey with photography back in 2017, from an exploration of self and space, to a tool for connection and documentation, and then as a means of assembly and direction. where 2021 demanded adaptation, 2022 allowed for focus. in most instances, the camera captured what it could not see before.

primarily: the face, unmasked, and eyes that welcome or dismiss my gaze are in full effect throughout this photobook. some images have been captured with permission - yet many without - by the soul-stealing sin that’s inherent to the medium. some travel took me away from others, shown in images absent of people, but the majority of this year’s efforts recognizes a direct connection between my camera lens and the people shown in this photobook; i am thankful to every one of them for the opportunity to document what i witnessed this year.

i give my love to all my family and friends who’s shared moments are the essence of what can be called a good life and which buoy these creative efforts of mine
