1367 GEOFFREY CHAUCER STAINED GLASS PANEL 20th century AD A lead framed stained glass panel with suspension loops at upper corners depicting a finely drawn portrait of Geoffrey Chaucer (13401400 AD), author of The Canterbury Tales, a series of stories told by fictional pilgrims on their journey from London to Canterbury; the central portrait roundel possibly older and perhaps re-used from a window setting. 3.32 Kg, 36x53 cm (14 x 21"). Fine condition, some glass segments cracked. This item, with the other lots accompanying, was shown as part of a year-long public exhibition in Canterbury telling the story of Thomas Beckett and the circumstances of his murder and of the pilgrimages to his shrine (see: www.thecanterburypilgrim.com). The exhibition was featured on BBC television and travelled throughout the UK. The items are now being sold following the final closure of the exhibition.

1369 WOODEN MINIATURE COFFIN 16th century AD A carved miniature coffin with rotating lid hollow to the underside; the coffin and lid 19th century in date, lined with fabric; inside, a cast white metal openwork skeleton with foliage surround and scroll above the skull with the legend 'THE HANGED MAN'. 31 grams total, 69 mm (2 ¾").
