775 KNAPPED HANDAXE Palaeolithic era, 400000-200000 BP A large flint handaxe of unusual form knapped on a very thick flake of triangular section, tapering with well formed edges to a sharp point; with typical yellowish river-gravel patination and some cortex to butt; with inked reference 'Warsash gravel pit, 1862'. 535 grams, 19 cm (7½"). 776 BRITISH FLINT HANDAXE Palaeolithic era, 400000-200000 BP A large and early British bifacial handaxe implement, formed on a heavy cobble with typical river deposit patination; the butt with original cortex, one side retouched to give concave working edge; the tip formed as a 'chisel' end, showing some ancient use. 986 grams, 20 cm (8"). 781 GRAND-PRESSIGNY 'LIVRE DE BUERRE' FLINT BLADE CORE Neolithic era, 7000-3000 BC

A substantial Clactonian culture implement formed from a large flint nodule with much cortex present to the butt with a convex, bifacial cutting edge; from the well-known lower palaeolithic site at Twydall in Kent, collected circa 1912-1915; with 2.HC.100.C TWYDALL old Rochester Museum collection inscription. 694 grams, 18.5 cm (7¼"). A large and classic flint blade core in the characteristic orange-yellow Grand-Pressigny material, carefully knapped to form a typical prepared 'livre-de-beurre' core and showing the scar where a single long flake was struck; with Weller and Petrie 1864 collection labels. 1.8 kg, 30 cm (12").
