A new study shows that children are strongly affected by watching food commercials, and seem to choose foods based on taste as a result of the advertisements. Dr. Pankaj Naram points out the importance of the study for anyone interested in the overall health of children.


The experts who conducted the research effort explained that a child's brain responds to food commercials, and probably leads to children choosing various food items based upon taste alone, rather than nutritional content.


It has long been known that children already make most of their food choices bases strictly upon taste, but the research showed that they do so much more quickly after viewing ads that feature "tasty" foods. The issue of childhood obesity has been a key issue among researchers in the U.S. during the past decade, with medical professionals exploring ways to fight the trend.
