Susan Wegman Manning is senior vice president of business development and customer relations for Ridgefield Bank in Ridgefield, Conn. She is responsible for acquisition and retention of key commercial accounts as well as liaison to local municipalities for business development.

Carolyn Hartle Vesey ’63 hosted members of DePauw’s 1963 and 1964 classes in her home in West Palm Beach, Fla. (See photo, below.) George R. Rehnquist was appointed to serve on Indiana’s Commission for Higher Education. He will serve a four-year term.

1965

David L. Callies delivered a paper, “Hong Kong’s Basic Law: The First Ten Years and Its Future,” at the Hong Kong SAR Basic Law Tenth Anniversary International Conference, June 23, 2007, at City University of Hong Kong. David is a professor at William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he teaches land use, legal research and writing, property law and state and local government law. C. Vinton Hoey Jr. retired from ExxonMobil following 36 years in the corporate and marketing communications area. He has a second career as senior vice president of brand strategy and communications for United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. He leads the brand team, which positions United Way on public issues, creates public relations outreach opportunities, manages events, develops campaign materials and supports strategic United

Dr. Thomas P. Cooper is a member of the board of directors of IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. He is founder and chairman of the board of VeriCare, a leading provider of quality mental healthcare to older adults; a partner at Aperture Venture Partners; and a director for Kindred Healthcare, Inc. and Hanger Orthopedic Group. He teaches entrepreneurship at Columbia University School of Business. Nicholas E. Hollis appeared on Fox News Channel’s Weekend Live show in a nationally televised debate concerning ethanol, April 21, 2007. Nick is a leading critic of agricultural subsidies,

particularly ethanol, in his capacity as president of the Agribusiness Council, a nonprofit organization based in Washington.

1968

Jill Kneen Stamm, a clinical associate professor at Arizona State University, is the author of Bright from the Start: The Simple, Science-Backed Way to Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind from Birth to Age 3. Jill is coJill Kneen Stamm ’68 founder of New Directions Institute for Infant Brain Development in Phoenix as well as creator of a product called Brain Boxes, a set of 12 boxes of toys, books, games and instructional cards that helps to maximize developing minds. Jill was named one of the top 10 finalists for the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce’s Woman of the Year (Athena Award). (See photo, above.) (See Recent Words, page 16.) Stephen W. Sanger has handed over his duties as chief executive officer of General Mills after more than 12 years of service. Steve will continue as chairman of the company until May 2008.

James A. Ibbotson performed at the Florida Museum of Natural History’s ButterflyFest, Oct. 13-14, 2007. Earlier, he performed at the fourth annual American Renewable Energy Day in Aspen, Colo., Aug. 24-25. Jimmy is former lead singer for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and was the lead vocal for The Ballad of the Monon Bell recording.
