“The paramount concern of liberal arts education is not simply directed at the development of the intellect, but the enhancement of the student as a whole person. This concept of educating the total person involves the opportunity for students to refine their spiritual and physical lives as well as their intellectual lives. The obvious success of such a philosophy is evidenced by our honorable benefactors who proved to be champions both on the field and in life.” » C. SHEA NICKELL ’81, student body president and 1981 Walker Cup recipient speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for Lilly Physical Education and Recreation Center
