MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
Mayor Jerry Mouton Jr.
It's always exciting to see the City of Deer Park come alive during the holiday season. The Parks and Recreation Department seems to be going all out to ensure that residents and visitors alike have a great time during this festive period. Here are some more details about the events they have planned:
The annual Tree Lighting Spectacular at Patrick's Cabin Christmas Town kicks off the holiday season in Deer Park with a dazzling display of lights and festive cheer. Held in midNovember, this event features the lighting of a magnificent Christmas tree, surrounded by traditional holiday activities. Families can enjoy carolers singing favorite tunes, carriage rides through the town, and visits with Santa Claus himself. Don't miss out on delicious treats, heartwarming stories around a crackling fire, and the chance to create lasting holiday memories.
The Halloween Carnival promises to be a spooky and fun-filled occasion for the whole family. Attendees can enjoy games, prizes, and a costume contest while enjoying live music and delicious treats.
The Reindeer Park event is an opportunity to get into the holiday spirit and take some memorable photos. Attendees can enjoy a winter wonderland, festive decorations, and even a chance to meet Santa Claus himself.
The new Community Center is under construction, and it will be exciting to see how this will enhance future Parks and Recreation events. The City of Deer Park is clearly committed to providing engaging activities for everyone, and the holiday season is a perfect time to showcase this.
On behalf of the City of Deer Park, I would also like to wish you a very happy holiday season. We hope to see you at our upcoming events!

About the COVER
Festive Fun Awaits: Halloween, Día de los Muertos, and Holiday
As autumn arrives, Deer Park gears up for a season of vibrant celebrations and cherished traditions. Our calendar is packed with events that bring neighbors, families, and friends together in a festive spirit. From the Halloween Carnival to the Día de los Muertos observance and the joyous Christmas festivities of the Tree Lighting Spectacular and Reindeer Park, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Our Halloween Carnival kicks off the season with creative costumes, games, prizes, rides, family fun, and plenty of candy! This annual event is a favorite among children and adults alike, offering a safe and exciting environment for everyone. This year’s carnival theme is sure to make you say “Beetlejuice” three times fast. From Pumpkin Town games to a Beetlejuice mini maze, the Halloween Carnival promises an afternoon of thrills and chills that will leave lasting memories.
In November, the community gathers to honor and remember loved ones through the beautiful tradition of Día de los Muertos. This heartfelt event is a time for reflection and celebration, featuring ofrendas adorned with marigolds, candles, and photographs of the departed. The Day of the Dead event is a colorful occasion, where attendees can participate in face painting to mimic sugar skulls, enjoy traditional foods, folk dances, and music performances. The atmosphere is filled with warmth and remembrance as families come together to celebrate the lives of those who have passed.
As December approaches, the Court and Theater building lawn will transform into a winter wonderland for the Tree Lighting at Patrick's Cabin Christmas Town. Families are invited to witness the
magical moment when the new 40-ft Christmas tree, adorned with twinkling lights and festive ornaments, is illuminated for the first time. This event marks the beginning of the holiday season and brings a sense of joy and togetherness to the community. The evening will feature carol singing, a visit from Santa Claus, and a lively Holiday Market offering handcrafted gifts, delicious treats, and seasonal delights. This heartwarming start to the holiday season is filled with laughter, joy, and the spirit of giving.
Finally, the holiday season culminates in the much-anticipated Reindeer Park. We invite everyone to come “Gnome for the holidays” and experience this holiday gathering. The event will include family activities, rides, food, snow areas, and of course, Santa! This annual family event is sure to generate community spirit as everyone comes together to spread cheer and make the holidays brighter for all. The festive atmosphere is contagious, with laughter and merriment filling the air. Children’s faces light up with excitement, and adults find joy in the simple pleasures of the season.
As we prepare for these community events, it’s clear that our ability to come together and celebrate our shared traditions is a testament to our vibrant and caring community spirit. Each event brings us closer and enriches our communal bonds. Whether you join in the festivities or look forward to future celebrations, these events will create memories that linger long after the holiday season.
Happy Holidays, and we hope to see you at our future events!

Preserving the Past: The Historical Importance of Facility Maintenance
Maintaining historical facilities is crucial for preserving our cultural heritage and educating future generations. These buildings are more than just structures; they are tangible links to our past, telling stories of the people and events that shaped our community. Regular maintenance ensures these landmarks remain safe and accessible, allowing us to honor our history while adapting to contemporary needs.
A well-maintained facility like Deer Park's historic Patrick's Cabin, for example, offers a glimpse into the daily lives of early settlers, providing context and continuity in a rapidly changing world. By investing in upkeep and restoration, we not only protect the physical integrity of these sites but also foster a sense of pride and continuity within the community. This ongoing commitment to preservation helps keep history alive, ensuring that the lessons and legacies of the past continue to inspire and inform future generations.
