Articles and abstracts are written to share information with colleagues in the scientific community. And it is obvious that the first thing to highlight is whether we have something really useful to share, or not…
From a technical point of view, the writing of scientific articles and abstracts for submission for publication, or for presentation at a congress, has a well defined set of rules, accepted by the scientific community worldwide. To summarize these rules is the starter of this event. The main course is the art behind the rules! How to structure the information, how to present it, how to summarize it.
In 2012, almost 200 submitted congress abstracts were rejected by the scientific committee of EAHP due to various reasons. Scientific articles are also often rejected. This event is about improving outcomes for Portuguese HP who plan to submit a high-quality abstract or article, want to improve their article and abstract writing skills and want to reduce the risk for rejection. Teaching Goals:
to present good scientific practice when creating scientific questions and choosing study methodology
to outline the structure and the different parts of a high quality scientific article or abstract
to illustrate the most common reasons for article and abstract rejection
Learning Objectives: After participating in the workshop the participant should:
understand when an article or an abstract should be submitted.
be able to write a scientific article or abstract, according to the commonly accepted scientific rules
be able to avoid the most common pitfalls of writing an article or an abstract and avoid reasons for rejection.
