From Honeymooners to Happy Family, Downtown York Welcomes You

Why Diana and Omari keep returning to York for lasting memories

By Katie Mahoney | Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer

Diana and Omari first visited Downtown York for their honeymoon 14 years ago, and now bring their young family to experience new adventures in the City! They are a busy family of six, with Diana running a family business, Vault + Vine, and Omari working in Philadelphia Social Services as Director of Youth Services for HopePHL.

Q: Why did you choose York?

Getting away is a big deal because there are a lot of personalities in our house looking for something different. Our destination must accommodate the expectations of relaxation and downtime for us adults, as well as adventures and new experiences to keep our four children from getting bored. So far, York has been able to achieve that.We originally started coming for the wine tour (when it was called "Uncork York"). We made great connections with Joanne from Grace Manor during our first trip 14 years ago for our honeymoon, and four children later, we continue to come back and explore new things every time. On our last trip in 2023, we brought our children for the first time for a family vacation.

Q: What were some of your favorite locations?

We visited both Central and Penn markets and Foundry Park to see the metal art sculptures. The murals at Royal Square were perfect for taking memorable family photos. Keystone Kidspace was also fun for our family of all ages. Our stay at Grace Manor was great. We especially enjoyed family meals in the garden, and the kiddos couldn't stop talking about the French toast and candied fruit.

Q: What was a memorable moment?

The soap making at Sunrise Soap was the most memorable for us. The kids loved using the bath bombs they painted when we got home. That activity even inspired soap making and bath bomb kits for that year's Christmas wish list.

Q: How would you describe York to others?

Quiet enough to relax and get away from regular everyday life but full of enough amenities that you don't feel like you are missing anything. Mix that with a few unique experiences, and it offers something for different types of travelers.
