NOT TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF, BUT A NEW LIFE!

s I was walking the Downtown Rescue Mission campus the other day, I stopped by Owen’s House, our facility for women and children. In the Emergency Shelter for moms and kids was a newborn baby boy who had been born just a few days before. I might be a big burly guy, but I am very tender hearted towards our kids, especially babies and I love seeing and holding them. I’m always conflicted when I see children at the Mission. I love that DRM is here to love and care for them, but I also think of the difficulties the moms must have gone through to have to bring their kids to a rescue mission. Seeing the newborn made me think about new beginnings like the beginning of the new year. Many people use New Year’s for new beginnings like getting in shape, new diets, better habits or quitting bad habits. The old saying goes, “I’m turning over a new leaf.” Most of the time, the diets fade away, the old habits start creeping back in and we are right back where we started. At DRM, we don’t talk about turning over a new leaf, but turning over a new life. The Bible tells us in
Ephesians 4:21-24, “ if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, that, in reference to your former way of life, you are to rid yourselves of the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you are to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.” Turning over a new life in Jesus is the only guaranteed way of truly changing your life forever. At the Mission we feed, clothe, shelter and provide many programs and outreach services, but the ultimate reason for our existence is to share the Gospel and the life changing power through Jesus Christ. Just like the new born baby coming into this world, you too, can have a new life by putting your faith in Jesus and accepting Him as your Savior. Thank you for partnering with DRM. t the young age of 13 I started stealing alcohol from my parents. As the years went by I started drinking even more. I used it as a way of escape for being in an 8 year abusive & controlling relationship. It did not help that when my father passed away, and I lost all control. Alcohol became my everything.
GRACE
But, by the grace of God, I was sitting in a hotel room with all my money spent on alcohol. God said to me that I needed to take a year out of my life to focus only on my relationship with him. I am so thankful for being introduced to this program. It has been a life changing experience being around such wonderful sober women and wonderful mentors. One thing that I will never forget as stated by Re. Marvin is, “it doesn’t matter what I have been through, because I am being lept by the power of God through my faith”. –Kimberly

RAYTHEON NURTURES COMMUNITY SPIRIT
R
aytheon, an RTX Business, began partnering with Downtown Rescue Mission in 2020 as part of the company’s efforts to ease food insecurity in Huntsville. The company sponsored the annual Thanksgiving

holiday. Employees were thrilled for the opportunity to help so many families here in Huntsville and to bring their own families along to help with the cause. Raytheon has continued to partner with Downtown Rescue Mission for the Turkey Box Drive, and this year, Raytheon volunteers packed more than 900 boxes to distribute to Huntsville families. The employees are always excited to see the impact they can make while sharing kindness, love, and compassion with those who need it.
