other existing groups that support the island jewel to form the Belle Isle Conservancy and the Grand Prix races returned to the island in early June. Hence, the conservancy has moved the former BIWC Legacy Luncheon to the fall. The “godmother” of the BIWC and the luncheon, Sarah Earley and her husband Tony, who now also maintain a pied a terre in San Francisco where Tony heads up the PG&E Corporation, hosted a cocktail party for luncheon benefactors in their new local digs overlooking Oakland Hills Country Club’s 18th fairway. More than 60 guests nibbled on Matt Prentice’s savories and milliner Gina Conti (www.ginaconti.com) helped many, including good sport guys Gene Miller, Ken Way and Allen Phillips, select hats to model. Forgotten Harvest Champagne Cruise It’s hard to recall more perfect weather for the Woodward Dream Cruise than Mother Nature bestowed this year. It was definitely better than 10 years ago, the first year Westborn Market hosted a Friday night fundraiser for Forgotten Harvest. As FH CEO Susan Goodell sadly recalled, “That was the year (the power failure) blacked out everything (including the event).” Since then, the market’s Anusbigian clan has perfected, with the help of lots of volunteers, the preview event in a festival tent erected on the parking lot beside Woodward Avenue in Berkley. The event takes its name from Pommery Champagne’s generous donation of non-stop bubbly. They are joined at beverage stations by Atwater Brewery, Faygo and Envio and 13 good guys like Barrio Taco & Tequila who brought savory and sweet cuisine for the 650 guests to eat on the stroll. Music makers Modern Tribe with Charles & Gwen Scales took a break for Goodell to thank Mark Anusbigian and Andrews Brothers for 10 years of loyalty accounting for more than $1.3 million dollars and six million meals. Then charity auctioneer Gregory Bator got $4,900 for three live auction items, bringing to $15,000-plus the silent and live auction proceeds. When all the accounting is completed, the 2012 event is expected to provide more than 800,000 meals for the hungry people served by Forgotten Harvest.
