n NEWS Give Scouts or Cubs a try ... THE 69th Bristol (St Joseph’s) Scout group meets every Tuesday evening during term time at St Joseph’s Church Hall, Fishponds and leaders are inviting new members to join the Cubs and Scouts. Activities includes outdoor pursuits, playing games, going out on visits, investigating nature, cooking, archery, orienteering, making new friends and much more. Cub Scouts and Scouts are open to boys and girls. Both groups meet during term time at St Joseph Church Hall on Tuesdays. The Cubs meet from 6pm and the Scouts from 7.30pm. The cost is £8 a term. Many children join up as it is a way of building up confidence, learning new skills, making a broader set of friends and gaining a new sense of responsibility. Email them at scoutgroup69th@yahoo.com
YOUNG people from Christ Church’s Sunday youth group took part in a litter-pick in Staple Hill - and were rewarded. They were delighted when one of the local residents came out and handed out some chocolate
as a thank-you. The activity, on a crisp and sunny February morning, was part of the group’s regular ‘serving’ Sunday where they get involved in community projects. Youth leader Diane
Paddon said: “An important part of being in a Christian youth group is engaging in ‘social action’. Social action involves nurturing social awareness and social responsibility; oh, and not forgetting, having fun too!”
