The 26th annual Malibu Surf event, held on Saturday 19th May, will be known for 2012 as The Carrall-Mal, in honour of Phil Carrall, who founded the event in 1987. Sponsored by Bushrat Surfboards, the Carrall-Mal is a one day Malibu surf spectacular, with surfers surfing through a virtual gauntlet to reach the finals and great honours. Held at Main Beach, Merimbula, the Carrall-Mal is an open, double elimination event with trophies and prizes for the six finalists in each of the categories: womens, grommets, juniors, local, mens, masters, veterans, legends, dead set-legends and grey grommets (bless their fading hairlines). Bushrat Surfboards have donated a new Malibu for the competitor's draw, as well as a custom made board. Entry forms are available at Merimbula Surf Shop and via e-mail through the Club's web site merimbulasailboardclub.com.au They can also be made on Friday 18th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm at the Rockpool Lounge, Club Sapphire. The Round 1 draw will be displayed until 7:30pm. On Saturday 19th the venue will be announced at 7am at Main Beach, Merimbula. Heats kick off at 7:30am with the Grand Final at 3pm.
