Megaphones Deep in the forest, on the edge of Estonia, three massive wooden megaphones lie scattered between dark-barked fir trees. This is Ruup, a philosophical apparatus designed and built by first-year interior design students from the Estonian Academy of Arts, which enables and encourages visitors to both notice and listen to the sounds of the forest. The story of Ruup began when students visited the forest looking for inspiration for a forest library 46

project. Rather than locating books in the forest, student Birgit Õigus was inspired to make the forest itself the book and fill its pages with the chirps of birds and the crunch of the leaves. Built out of larch, Ruup offers a place to rest your feet, as well as your thoughts. Sit, sleep, think, listen. Ruup is an open library with just one book: nature. www.ruup.ee/en www.b210.ee/design-studio-forest-library
