JEE & NEET Dates: After Consultation with the various stakeholder of Ministry The Minister added that the HRD ministry is consulting its various stakeholders including the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), school education boards and other agencies involved in logistical operations before announcing the next dates of the JEE as well as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam, NEET.

Reduction in Class 10 and 12 Syllabus

Due to lockdown in place, all schools are currently closed leading to tremendous loss in academic learning. Therefore, given the pressure board exams next year there is also a possibility that the Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE may consider reducing their curriculum load. Dr Pokhriyal added that CBSE board will evaluate the loss of instructional time and then only provide the syllabus for board exams 2021. There will be a proportionate reduction in curriculum and CBSE has already set up a course committee for this task. As of now, the government is encouraging online classes so that students can study at home. The HRD Ministry is running educational content on TV channel – “Swayam Prabha”. Besides this, Ministry is also looking forward to expanding its reach with All India Radio to incorporate the most marginalized and vulnerable section of students in e-learning chain.

Coronavirus Impact on Academics

When asked about the impact of lockdown extension on the academic calendar, especially for class 12 students, the minister said that the new academic session 2020-21 is likely to get further delayed. CBSE earlier announced that it will be conducting the exam of only “29 key subjects” which are necessary for higher education. Likewise, the admission process to higher education institutes’ new batch can only begin after the reopening of universities and colleges. The MHRD has set up a committee to look into the issues related to university and college examinations and the academic calendar, which is expected to submit its report soon.
