The National Irish Safety Organisation Awards took place in Killarney on 7th October 2011. Dornan Engineering secured a “Major Award” on the night in the category of Regional Award, denoting that we had the best entry out of hundreds of companies in Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK across sectors such as energy, construction, manufacturing and transport. Following on from our President’s Award in

2010, a Regional Award is a testament of the investment and resources the company continually commits to the safety & health of its employees. These awards recognise our safety management system combined with strong management leadership and the goal to achieve continuous improvement. Compiling a submission to the awards places our Health & Safety management systems under the scrutiny of an independent body and in turn Dornan’s gain an external review of the efforts we have put into improving our

Dornan Engineering have entered the awards since 2005, winning consecutive Regional Awards and the Presidents Award and this demonstrates that we are progressing well on our journey to being recognised as one of the companies with the top safety performance in Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK. Pembroke team awarded Safety Contractor of the Month Our Dornan Pembroke Power Station team were awarded Safety Contractor of the Month earlier this year in July, from RWE and Alstom Power. We were pleased to have been furnished with this award as the safety standard within our team is a reflection of our standards across the board and for all our projects. Since taking over the lead EHS position on

site, Brian Foskin has been instrumental in providing the back up information that RWE and Alstom were looking for. Brian has been able to demonstrate Dornan personnel involvement from management to workface including audits, safety coaching, training structure, reports and workplace checks. Along with our award, we were presented with a cheque of £1,000 to donatte to a

charity of our choice. We chose to make that donation to the local NSPCC charity, who do great work with children in the UK. Bob Huitson, our Project Manager presented the cheque to a NSPCC representative, see our ‘People’ section for the article and photo.
