The Pop Art movement began in the late 1950's through the 1960's and was inspired by popular culture, commercial, consumerism, and by what was happening at that time Pop Art had no particular style and was inspired by Dadaism It was a result after the post war era This art is diverse and used common objects as part of the artwork such as hamburgers, soup cans, comic strips,androadsigns(etc)
Thisformofartwassuitedformass-media anda consumerism oriented society Some main characteristics of pop art can be described as popular, easily forgotten, low cost, mass produced, witty, and big business You can identify this kind of art by it’s use of consumer symbols, brands, household objects, and iconic celebrities. This art style was also characterized by bold colors, usually primary colors, very bright, and similar to the color scheme on comic strips.

Pop Art was also known as ‘Propaganda Art,’ because artists mimicked advertisements, billboards,andmarketingpropagandathatwasin the world at this time Pop art became respected by the general public and was a form of art that wasaccessibletothemasses
Another influence during this era, post-war, was the invention of the television and the American Dream The dream of success, beauty, and money was a driving a force of a celebrity worship culture The television was beginning to appear in homes across the country which impacted this entire culture and the inspiration of popart
Some famous pop artists include: Andy Warhol David Hockney, Richard Hamilton, and Roy Lichtenstein.
