SLIDE: Types of Printers
Student Notes There are three categories of printers.
• local • remote • network Local Printers A local printer is connected directly to the system on which you are printing. In the example shown on the slide, printer1 is a local printer on host1. It may be connected to a parallel port or a serial port. There will be a device file for the printer on the local system. An example of a device file for a parallel printer is /dev/c1t0d0_lp.
