SLIDE: CD-ROM File Systems (CDFS)

Student Notes CD-ROMs are becoming a popular media choice since they can store a large volume of data inexpensively. They are read-only, however. CDs are prepared and mastered using a special publishing process and can not be changed. Today, most HP-UX applications, utilities, and documentation are available in electronic format on CDs. Using a CD-ROM containing a CDFS file system requires several steps. (CD-ROMs are available for HP-IB and SCSI interfaces.) To start, make sure that the CD-ROM drive is properly connected and configured, and that the proper driver is configured in your kernel. Then, shut down the computer, connect the CD-ROM drive, and power back up again. Assuming the proper device driver has been installed, the system should create the necessary device files during the boot process. After booting, use any mount point directory name (this example uses /cdrom). Do the following:
