The Mission of Jubilee School Jubilee serves families in the Paideia of the Lord. Our integrated instruction accommodates various abilities, equipping students to discern and apply truth. ❖ We provide individualized learning within a school structure. ❖ We give families hope and support in the education of their unique learners, whether neurotypical, developmentally delayed, or on the autism spectrum. ❖ We provide rigor with mercy in the classroom through Christian and classical pedagogy.

EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY Christian *Compassionate *Classical Romans 15:1 states “We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.”

It is tempting, in the education world, to focus on academics to the extent that children have a limited experience outside of classroom walls. But if the apex of a Christian is to Love God and Love our neighbor, then we need to make sure that our education is not self focused, but is instead a practice in humanity.

It is not that academics is unimportant, it is simply that we have created a sub-culture of small humans whose grade and grades become “who they are.” Aristotle spoke extensively of virtue. And although a pagan, he understood that a student who simply gained knowledge had not really received an education.

At The Jubilee School the Trivium, which pedagogically moves from the concrete to the philosophical, is applied at every level and in every field of study, building skills in discernment. Academically strong and struggling learners are integrated into learning groups based on mastery of material rather than age.

Curricula is a tool rather than a master. We synthesize fields of study in story centric or thematic lessons based on eras of time and build the important literary, mathematical and science skills necessary for interpreting God’s creation and the order of the world. Output expectations are varied, because student gifting is varied. Small classes foster discussion, speaking, and service while being given space to take academic risk - equipping them for responsibility and leadership in God’s Kingdom.

EDUCATION FOR THOSE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS The Jubilee School aims to teach students of all ability levels through solid Christian pedagogy and materials. Because we are able to take both conventional and unique learners (even those diagnosed with ASD) our program is very distinct. We offer classical teaching as input but only expect classical output based on the gifting of each individual student. Our teaching is done in a one-room style, setting where we implement the trivium and move from the concrete to the philosophical as the students are ready.

We believe that those diagnosed with a learning disability as well as those with developmental delays, or trauma, are not defined by their condition. They are first and foremost Image Bearers of the living God. These uniquely gifted, and sometimes hurting children have a mind, a body and a soul that has the same needs and desires as other children. For some, the difference is in their hyper-sensory skills which can overload their minds. For others they need added assistance in various behavior and academic areas. Because of this, our goal is to give these children a learning environment that helps them organize their sensory systems, see themselves as an integral part of God’s world, and invest the talent God has given them.

We do not use the child’s condition as an excuse for sin, but we may make academic and behavioral accommodations for children at the recommendation of the Education Council upon review of diagnostic information and or circumstances. This decision will not be automatic as per the request of

a parent, we will seek professional advice, pray, and consult with invested parties to come up with the best decision for the student and community.

While our goal is straightforward, the way we accomplish this for each child is complex. Because each child is an image-bearer of God and is created with unique gifts and struggles, we believe it is important to individualize their instruction without compromising the community. We employ a variety of methods to help our students learn to focus their minds and calm their bodies, so they can grow in their love for God and neighbor.

Therefore we will: 1. Provide our students with a well-ordered, consistent, environment.

2. Help our students see who they are in the context of God’s world.

3. Teach our students clear communication and use clear communication in training.

4. Coach our students in loving their neighbors through structured actions.

5. Guide our students through as much academic material as they are capable.

We are not able to accommodate children with known overt behaviors that would morally or physically, intentionally harm other students.

STATEMENT OF FAITH THE APOSTLES’ CREED "We believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son, our

Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. CULTURAL ISSUES The Jubilee School believes that all human life is sacred and that we are created in the image of God and called to defend and protect that life. We believe there are two distinct genders, male and female and together they reflect the image and nature of God and the Biblical meaning of “marriage” described in Scripture. (Gen. 2:18-25).

The Jubilee School is committed to a healthy discussion of this issue in a way that values all those of other opinions, yet does not compromise our values. Our ultimate goal is Christian unity within the parameters of the Apostles’ Creed and the truth of Scripture.

OVERARCHING CULTURE Dilige Deum, Dilige Proximum- Love God, love neighbor.

When God made humans, He made us in his own image, a community reflective of His triune nature with the capacity to love, as He has loved. In the last century, schools have assumed a fragmented view that reduces a person to an individual in need of knowledge. At The Jubilee School, we believe in discipling the whole person to love God and love and honor all people.

Augustine deals with this in “On Christian Teaching.”.... It is interesting to consider that to practice loving God and loving our neighbor might be a greater education than anything. To love our neighbor is to love the image of God. To love our neighbor we need to study and understand them. To know and love our neighbor is to know more about God and to learn more about God produces wisdom, and wisdom lived out sacrifices for our neighbor. In other words, the cycle of education has gone awry.

The subject of spelling is useless unless my spelling serves a greater purpose. The subject of science is useless unless I understand it in the context of God’s incredible world.

UNIFORM POLICY The way we dress is a form of “rhetoric” and communicates a message. We want enough variety within our dress code to allow for practice in this while also clearly communicating our academic environment. Our dress code simplifies student attire , and streamlines variety towards esprit de corp.

DISCIPLINE POLICY We recognize that maintaining a well-disciplined classroom is key to learning. We believe that “Knowledge without virtue is dangerous.” Therefore, encouraging virtuous behavior that stems from the heart is as important as encouraging excellence in math and grammar. A young student’s behavior, attitude, and physical disposition should contribute positively to the classroom environment and The Jubilee School’s value of shaping godly character. Our rule is simple for maintaining this disciplined atmosphere: “love your neighbor as yourself.”

The Jubilee school uses a structured discipline plan for the classroom while varying the consequences based on the frame of the child and the parent’s input. Although our method of helping them reach the standard of “loving God and loving our neighbor” may be different, the standard remains.

ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICY Use of personal electronic devices (i.e. phones, smart phones, portable gaming devices, smart watches etc.) by students is prohibited on campus. Such devices may be put on silent or turned off and left in bags or backpacks while a student is at school or on campus. Any use of phones must be approved by the Head of School or the secretary. ● Use of laptops is permissible for secondary academic purposes only under the pre-approved direction and supervision of a teacher. ● A first violation of this policy will result in immediate confiscation of the device, to be released to a parent or guardian. ● A second violation of this policy will result in a parent conference with the Head of School. ● A third violation of this policy will result in a disciplinary hearing. ● Jubilee accepts no responsibility for use, breakage, theft, or loss of phone or other personal

items.

CHEATING AND PLAGIARISM Cheating is defined as looking at another’s work without the teacher’s permission, or communicating with another during an exam without the teacher’s permission.

Plagiarism is defined as using another’s work without thanking them for the use.

If either cheating or plagiarism is noticed, the assignment or exam will immediately receive a 0. Parents will be notified. A second cheating or plagiarism infraction will result in an education council review.

Dress Code Violation If the secretary notices a dress code violation he will inform the Head of School, the Head of School will notify parents through a ClassReach dress code violation form. After 4 dress code violations an office visit will follow and an email will follow. After the 5th within a semester the student will be sent home. Subsequent dress code violations will require the Head of School to treat the violations as office visits in accordance with the discipline policy.

MISSING HOMEWORK a. Any missing homework will be entered as a “0” in ClassReach. After the third “0” or third poor grade, the parents will be notified. The late assignment policy is 10% grade reduction the first day, 20% reduction the second day, and 1 percentage point for any day thereafter. A standing “0” will mean the assignment was never submitted.

OFFICE VISIT There are five basic behaviors that will automatically necessitate discipline from the Head of School (versus the teacher). Those behaviors are the following: 1. Blatant disrespect shown to any staff member. The staff member will be the judge of whether or not disrespect has been shown.

2. Dishonesty in any situation while at school, including lying, cheating, and stealing 3. Rebellion, i.e. outright disobedience in response to instructions 9

4. Fighting, i.e. striking in anger with the intention to harm another student 5. Obscene language, including taking the name of the Lord in vain

NAME ON THE BOARD POLICY The majority of discipline situations can and should be taken care of by the teacher within the classroom.

When a student behaves in an unloving manner (e.g. side conversations or blurting) the following protocol will be followed:

1. The first infraction will result in a name on the board. Teachers will follow up with an email to inform the parents of the reason for the name on the board, and details from following up with the student. No consequences will result.

2. The second infraction in a day will result in an office visit. The administrator will call parents to inform them of the disciplinary action and will seek the parents assistance to avert any future need for discipline. Consequences may be given.

3. The third infraction will result in a second office visit. Parents will be called immediately and informed of the details of the office visit. Consequences will be given.

2. If an office visit occurs a discipline note will go home from the Head of School to the parents.

Excessive Office Visits As noted above, the purpose of the discipline policy is to shape godly character in the student. If it becomes apparent to the Head of School that the student’s character is not improving over time and/or is becoming worse to the detriment of the school culture, the Head of School will meet with the parents and they will come up with a plan to resolve the issue. The Head of School will also meet with the parents in cases where the student exhibits a lack of repentance or lacks interest in attending The Jubilee School. The Head of School may, at his discretion, allow for additional meetings with the parents if the previous discipline plan to help the student was unsuccessful. To help the parents understand their child’s behavior, they may be required to sit with the student during a part or all of the school day. If the Head of School determines that the student’s behavioral issue still cannot be corrected through the discipline plan(s) generated by the meeting(s) with the parents, then it will be considered a “Serious Discipline Case”.

Serious Discipline Cases A Serious Discipline Case occurs when a student exhibits extreme ungodly behavior that impedes the culture of the school. Examples include (but are not limited to): 1. Excessive Office Visits (see section of the same name above) 2. Unrepentant, consistent, or serious disrespect of authority 3. Unsafe behavior–endangerment to themselves or others 4. Overt moral issues including (but not limited to): a. Inappropriate touching

b. Substance abuse c. Illegal activity If the Head of School has determined that the student’s words or behavior constitute a Serious Discipline Case, the student will be subject to a discipline hearing before the school board. The discipline hearing will include the student, the parent(s), the teacher (if applicable), the Head of School, and school board members. At this point the school board will determine the necessary course of action which may include suspension or expulsion of the student. Tuition will not be reimbursed for suspensions or expulsions.

OUR PROGRAM

EDUCATION SCHEDULE Jubilee offers a 3-day and 5-day option. Students are placed in learning groups based on their reading ability. Students progress through these learning groups as they grow in their skills. Because each child is uniquely designed, some students may progress more quickly than others. Our learning group model affords both delays and accelerations through the learning levels. Fields of study are offered across the school at the same time so that students can go to the class that fits their learning needs.

ON CURRICULUM At The Jubilee School, we believe that curriculum is a tool, which is essential, but the teacher brings education to life through use of that tool. As such, in addition to using various curricula and a developed list of skills and objectives we will obtain the most qualified and dedicated teachers as possible: teachers who exemplify a love of learning and point young students to Jesus Christ through immersing their teaching in goodness, beauty and truth.

The final aim of every subject taught: To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek him the greatest adventure; to find him, the greatest human achievement. - Augustine HUMANITIES “The science of the image of God” Our Humanities block is at the core of our curriculum, and it is organized around two principles: worldview and integration. History, Literature, Bible, Geography, Grammar, Writing and Spelling are woven into an integrated whole and taught from a distinctively Christian perspective.

This block of time reflects our commitment to restoring not only the content but the structure of education. Rather than a rigid class schedule that hurriedly moves students from one subject-specific class to the next, interrupting great discussions or meaningful projects, we linger longer and go deeper through integration of material, allowing the student time to master learning.

We read stories, the stories of our world. It is stories that empower ideas, and it is ideas that spark innovation. We filter all of this in light of Biblical truth to create missional students.

The eras we engage with are Ancient Times, Middle Ages, Modern times and the United States Modern times. We rotate through these eras as a whole community each year, learning the big ideas that have shaped the world within each era.

Objectives for the Humanities will be met relating to History, Literature, Bible, Art, Geography, Grammar, Writing and Spelling.

ART & MUSIC Art and music should be interwoven to a robust study of the “image of God.” Therefore The Jubilee School will incorporate these into the fiber of teaching humanities while also holding skill based classes for technique.

SCIENCE "Some people, in order to discover God, read books. But there is a great book: the very appearance of created things. Look above you! Look below you! Read it. God, whom you want to discover, never wrote that book with ink. Instead, He set before your eyes the things that He had made. Can you ask for a louder voice than that?" - Augustine We aim to teach that the Creator literally spoke the world into existence and therefore belief in God as Creator is foundational to all scientific studies.

We study various science topics within each blended grade level during the primary years and build the important scientific skills necessary for further discovering God’s beautiful earth. As students move into secondary, we provide the foundational fields of study necessary for a post-secondary education.

MATHEMATICS Mathematics is the language with which God wrote the universe. — Galileo Mathematics takes mastery to understand. This means that both corporate instruction and individualized learning are important in mastering these skills. We use a combination of integrated methods, manipulatives, and the trivium to build important skills in the study of mathematics. Word problems, worked through as a group, help with puzzling skills and our aim is to go a mile deep rather than a mile wide with mathematics understanding.

Math is offered, school-wide at the same time each day. This allows students to be grouped in their appropriate skill level no matter their reading level. Both primary and secondary students advance as they master material rather than as they age.

PHILOSOPHY OF GRADING GRADING POLICY Grades at The Jubilee School do not in any way reflect the immeasurable worth and value of each child made in God’s image, but rather an accurate reflection of the quality of work in a given field of study at a given time. At The Jubilee School, grades serve three basic purposes: 1. To help students to improve 2. To determine the best placement level for a young student's academic ability 3. To provide a just and legitimate means of holding students accountable for the quality of their work. Grades provide a widely understood means of communicating progress and achievement to parents and other parties such as college entrance boards or other schools to which the young student may transfer We have established a balanced and objective grading system based on these values.

INDIVIDUAL GRADES The Jubilee School will use a unique method of grading that ensures students have time to “practice” before they receive a grade. Therefore regular “feedback” grades, or “soft grades” on new concepts will be internally kept while grades that affect overall standings will be recorded in our software for transcripts. Consistent with educating the whole child, both attitude and effort will be considered within our grading systems.

GROUP PROJECT GRADES Group projects are a part of coursework and it should be expected that grading of these will not be individualized because we believe that character in community reveals the heart: I Thessalonians 5: 14 “And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.” Because The Jubilee School cares even more about the heart than the academics, group projects allow teachers to see where character work is needed, and since we are preparing students for life, not just college, character in Christian community is integral to “Loving God and Loving Neighbor.”

MATHEMATICAL GRADING POLICY Because math problems are objectively right or wrong, grading will follow a simple number correct out of the number of problems. Exercises that are philosophically based will follow the humanities scale (see below).

Math examinations are 50% of the final grade Math homework completion is 25% of the final grade Math practicums/projects are 25% of the final grade (group or individual)

SCIENCE GRADING POLICY Since science is taught through experiments, and discovery , this will be a participation and group project grade in the primary years and will move towards mastery grading through the various scientific fields of study in the secondary years.

LATIN GRADING POLICY Latin is taught to build vocabulary and continue to grow English as well as Latin grammar skills.

Assessments will be based on these concepts and points awarded for the purpose of revealing mastery.

HUMANITIES GRADING POLICY

Vocabulary terms, spelling, grammar, and direct character names or dates will be objectively graded and will be on a points-based system. With Mastery as our goal, students will be asked to correct the wrong answers.

Assignments that are more philosophical in nature will be graded on a scale. Within each assignment, grammatical and spelling mistakes will be clearly marked and students will be asked to review the word or grammatical rule and “edit” their writing. This promotes mastery in writing assignments.

FAILING AND RETAKES Retakes will be left to the teacher’s discretion. A student who has simply failed for a lack of understanding may be given another opportunity to prove their understanding after further practice.

A student who neglected their studies and therefore failed, may not be given a retake opportunity.

If a student fails an entire course, the student, parents, and teacher will meet with the Education council to determine the best course of action for the student. Circumstances, understanding of directions and effort will all be taken into consideration.

Parents will be notified within three weeks of the end of the grading period if their student is in jeopardy of failing.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL Students are able to arrive between 8:30 and 8:45 AM. Students need to be picked up no later than 3:15 PM in the afternoons.

ATTENDANCE The Jubilee School has intentionally set its vacations, schedule, and structure to allow important time for families. By registering a child in The Jubilee School, the parent or guardian is agreeing to this schedule and it is loving to the community of students to be in attendance. Emergencies or important family time arise from time to time; therefore students have *6 academic days (the equivalent of 2 weeks) within each semester for school absences without consequence to their credits unless pre-approvals are arranged. We ask that teachers be notified as soon as possible for any absences.

For sickness: please notify the teacher through the ClassReach form provided.

For family time (vacations, etc.): please use our pre-scheduled Absence Form to notify the appropriate teacher.

For prolonged periods of absence (to extend beyond the 6 academic days - the equivalent of 2 weeks): please get pre-approval from the head of school. *Emergency situations will obviously be taken into consideration.

TARDIES A student who arrives later than 8:45 AM is considered tardy. 4 unexcused Tardies within a month will constitute a parent email. A 5th tardy will result in an office visit. Subsequent unexcused Tardies will be treated as office visits in accordance with the discipline policy.

PARENT COMMUNICATION AND INVOLVEMENT At The Jubilee School, we recognize that parents are ultimately responsible for the education and flourishing of their children. We believe that educators are facilitators and advisors as parents pursue this important work.

Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled as needed. We encourage teachers and parents to speak weekly about how the student is doing and to schedule formal meetings as needed.

Teachers may be contacted through ClassReach outside of regular working hours. When addressing any concerns, parents should copy the Head of School to keep the school informed of classroom circumstances. Teachers will do the same when addressing concerns via emails with parents.

If you have a concern about curriculum content, The Jubilee School policy, or philosophy, communicate with the Head of School. If you have questions about the weekly workings of a particular classroom (homework load, etc.), contact the Lead Teacher through ClassReach. At no time should an individual student’s problem be addressed to non-involved parties. In the great majority of cases, if you have worked patiently and in good faith, with the teacher and directors, you will find a satisfactory resolution.

Please follow Matthew 18:15 to determine the proper order of communication: “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.”

Part of loving God and neighbor means being on time, present and respectful. The Jubilee School has been very thoughtful in developing a school schedule that allows for solid family time during summers, holidays and various breaks. For this reason, I understand that school attendance is a way of loving teachers and classmates and I will ensure that my child is present and on time unless an emergency arises. In cases of planned absences or important family time I understand that it is my responsibility to 20

communicate with the teachers and make a plan for the class time my child will miss without putting an excessive burden on the teachers. I also understand that poor attendance may cause my child to fall behind.

I understand that a dress code is a way of loving those around us by respecting a unified and meaningful representation of our school culture, including professionalism, modesty and our distinct values. I will make sure that my child follows the uniform policy so that this culture is maintained.

I understand that my child will need to submit to the authority of The Jubilee School faculty and staff during school events. I also understand that I will be ultimately responsible for my child’s behavior while at The Jubilee School and thereby will follow the directives of the school as outlined below.

If a discipline note goes home from a teacher or head of school, I understand that I need to work with my child on changing their behavior through the heart, by encouraging them to seek forgiveness.

If my child continues to incur infractions, it will be clear to me that I need to deal more seriously and consistently with my child. I also understand that my child will be dealt with in accordance with the discipline policy outlined in this handbook and that I will need to meet with the Head of School in cases of excessive office visits to work out a plan designed to correct my child’s disruptive behavior.

If my child continues to remain unresponsive to correction, I understand that my child may be subject to a disciplinary hearing as outlined by the discipline policy of this handbook. I also agree that if my child is subject to a disciplinary hearing before the school board for excessive office visits or for any extreme ungodly behavior that impedes school culture, that I will abide by the board's decision. If the school board decides to suspend or expel my child, I understand that Tuition will not be reimbursed.

I understand that the teachers at The Jubilee School aim to educate the whole person and will keep the wellbeing of the student in mind. Therefore, all efforts will be made to not impede grading as it may affect my child’s next steps.

By enrolling my child in The Jubilee School, I understand the important mission to special needs children. I know that with this may come exposure for my child to unique behaviors such as fits, undressing in inappropriate places (typical of autism), and or outbursts not common to most classrooms. I understand that Jubilee will notify me if my child is exposed to such a behavior, or if my child exhibits such a behavior. I also understand that, no matter the special need, behavior that falls into the category of “serious discipline case” including: unsafe behavior that endangers others, or

overt moral issues will be addressed through a discipline hearing and not excused due to the special need.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

LUNCH Students will bring packed lunches to be eaten in our multipurpose room. Please pack lunches that do not have to be heated or refrigerated. Please also alert us of any allergies your child has so we can accommodate as needed and alert other families (if the allergy is very severe). At The Jubilee School,

we value health and wellness, so please keep this in mind when packing lunches, as your young students will be learning about nutrition, a balanced diet, etc. We have a nut-free facility.

SNACKS Parents are welcome to send an easy to eat a snack for mid-morning. Water is the only beverage allowed to accompany snacks.

HEALTH RECORDS The Jubilee School does not require information regarding immunizations. The Jubilee School should be notified of any severe allergies or health concerns.

ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICINES The Jubilee School administration is willing to administer any over-the-counter medication to the children in their care only with authorization from the child’s parent or guardian.

Prescription medication can be administered only when the following conditions are met: 1. The medicine is brought to The Jubilee School in its original container by the parent and is delivered directly to the designated administrators. Under no circumstances should a child handle his or her medication.

2. A note from the prescribing doctor is provided that states dosage, frequency, and a list of possible side effects. Pharmacy-printed information may be accepted in lieu of a doctor’s note.

The Jubilee School reserves the right to refuse the responsibility of prescription administration for any reason. If this occurs, we will be happy to accommodate parent visits during the day for the purpose of medication administration.

ILLNESS POLICY In consideration of your young student’s wellness, in addition, preventing the spread of illness to your child’s classmates and teachers, a young student should be symptom-free a full 24 hours from the following before returning to onsite classes: • Fever - Temperature of 100 degrees or above without the use of fever-reducing medication • Vomiting/diarrhea • Rash • Persistent Cough NOTE: If your child has a contagious illness such as strep or pinkeye, you must provide the Head of School with a physician’s note upon returning to onsite classes.

Child Safety Policy All faculty & staff receive criminal background checks every two years, and are required to participate in a Child Safety Course.

The “More Than Two Rule” of student/faculty gatherings is our standard protocol. During one-on-one pullouts, clear visibility will be maintained at all times through an open door or window.

Faculty may not initiate or facilitate any private or isolated types of communication with students that might be interpreted as unprofessional. All faculty communication with students shall be through the Messages system in ClassReach where parents are automatically copied.

DAILY SCHEDULE Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are our core academic days and an optional Monday/Friday program is available. We meet from 9:00-3:00 PM.

ENROLLMENT POLICY Regarding Candidates for Admissions All children are welcome to apply for admissions; we do not discriminate on race, gender or religion.

But our statement of faith, mission, and vision are clear. Our aim is to disciple students: teaching them all that Jesus commanded.

Children diagnosed with a learning disability are welcome to be a part of The Jubilee School so long as they can meet, or be assisted to meet, the discipline standards of the classroom, discussions and daily routine.

Students applying for admissions should have a desire to receive this form of education. We do not mind assisting parents in fostering this desire, but the student needs to at the very least be “willing to be made willing” to be discipled.

PART-TIME STUDENTS The Jubilee School desires to assist as many students as possible, but the structure of the school necessitates a community of students working together. For this reason, The Jubilee School will not take part time students unless unique circumstances are involved.

FINANCIAL AID Financial Aid may be requested but families are strongly urged to seek assistance from their family, churches and friends prior to seeking financial aid. We are partnering in education with families and we are run solely on private funds, therefore every dollar not collected in tuition is a dollar that must be raised through donations. The best advocate for their child is the parent and family. But, we also don’t want finances to be the reason a family does not attend The Jubilee School, therefore financial aid may be offered under certain circumstances of extreme need. Multi student aid may be available under specified circumstances. Families will need to apply for financial aid through a privately shared link.

Financial aid will be discussed through a committee appointed by the Board.

MAINTAINING EXCELLENCE The Jubilee School will be seeking excellence by seeking consistent feedback on our teachers, our students, and our administration.

We want our teachers to become “master” teachers and as such will be investing in their further education through various classes, training, and enrichment. We will also be holding them to a high standard to ensure excellence in academics.

1. Teachers will submit an Academic Mapping schedule by Sept. 1 of each year.

2. Teachers will submit a lesson plan with clear objectives by Friday of the week preceding. This will be reviewed by the Lead Teacher.

3. At the weekly meeting, teachers will explain how they met the objectives and discuss any struggling students or extra needs.

4. Every week the details of teaching these objectives and how they were met will be discussed; student progress is integral to this discussion. This will be done for all core subjects and with all teachers.

5. The teacher will also need to present their plan on how to assess that students have learned and engaged with the objectives. This develops a very personalized education and holds teachers accountable for their instruction.

This outlined process keeps The Jubilee School Board informed about all learning processes and the academic welfare of each student at the forefront of our objectives.

3. The administration will be assessed periodically by the staff.

While there is not an accrediting body for this model of school, we will seek excellence through constant assessment of our practices and pedagogy.

THE JUBILEE BOARD OF ADVISORS Because The Jubilee School does not fall under a specific accrediting body, the Board of Advisors will consist of members whose function is to oversee that excellence is maintained.

Legal Structure The Jubilee School, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as Jubilee) was incorporated as a Non-profit corporation in the State of Idaho on July 10, 2017. It currently has501(c)3 status.

IV.

Board of Directors a. Organization and election i. The Board of Directors (henceforth “the Board”) shall initially consist of eight members, of whom four shall hold regular officer titles: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Every member of the Board of Directors shall subscribe to the Statement of Faith of The Jubilee School. This same standard shall apply to any officers who are not on the Board of Directors. ii. The Board of Directors may be increased beyond eight members at the discretion of the existing board (a unanimous vote will be required). Should the Board choose to expand, the additional board members may be nominated by any existing board members, and must be unanimously approved by the existing board at a meeting, which may be called by any member of the Board with 30 days notice. iii. All members of the Board of Directors shall serve two-year terms from the date of their election. There is no limit to the number of terms for which a Board member may stand for election. Prospective board members may be nominated by existing members of the board, including self-nominations. If only one nominee is presented for a given slot on the board, a unanimous vote of the other board members is required. If multiple candidates are presented for a position, a 2/3 majority of the other board members is required. iv. Election of officers is distinct from (re-)election to the Board. Once (re-)elected to the Board, board members may stand for election to one of the four officer positions. These shall be two-year terms, with a term limit of three consecutive terms. The procedure for nominating and (re-)electing officers shall be the same as that for board members. v. By unanimous consent of the board, term limits may be extended by one or more terms for any officer reaching the end of his term. vi. If a board member has to step down for any reason during the course of his term, he will be encouraged to nominate a successor. Other board members may also nominate candidates, and the election procedure will be the same as in (iii) above. The replacement board member’s term will be deemed to end at the annual meeting closest to two years from the date of his accession. The same procedure will be followed for officers that step down in the course of their terms.

vii. If a board member or officer is unable or unwilling to perform his duties or is deemed to be acting in a way prejudicial to the interests of the organization, he may be removed from office by the following procedure: a) prior to a regular meeting of the board, another board member may propose his removal as an agenda item; (b) if a 2/3 majority votes for his removal, he will be suspended; (c) at the next regular monthly meeting, the matter will be revisited, and if a 2/3 majority still resolves on his removal, he will be formally removed from office, and a replacement sought. b. Roles i. The President shall be responsible for publicly representing the organization, and for overseeing correspondence with partner organizations, unless he has delegated such correspondence to another board member. The President shall be chiefly responsible, in conjunction with the Vice-President, for developing and maintaining the strategic vision of the organization. He shall also be chiefly responsible for overseeing and facilitating the fundraising operations of the organization. ii. The Vice-President shall be responsible for assisting the President in the fulfillment of all his tasks. The Vice-President shall be responsible for overseeing any who have been contracted to do paid work for Jubilee, Inc. (such as web developers, etc.), unless he has delegated this to another board member. He shall be responsible for scheduling and convening all board meetings, both monthly and annual, and for setting the agenda for such meetings, in consultation with the Secretary. The Vice-President shall be responsible, in conjunction with the President, for developing and maintaining the strategic vision of the organization. iii. The Secretary shall be responsible for maintaining copies of all formal organization documents, with the exception of financial records. This shall include meeting agendas and minutes, resolutions, bylaws, records of formal communications with partners or recipients of funding, etc. The Secretary shall be responsible for maintaining a Google Apps account to facilitate the orderly maintenance of such records and transaction of Board business. The Secretary shall be responsible for aiding the President in the formulation of meeting agendas and the scheduling of meetings, and shall be responsible for taking all meeting minutes. iv. The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining copies of all financial records, including records of day-to-day transactions, quarterly and annual reports, tax filings, etc. The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining bank accounts, and shall normally be responsible for issuing and receiving all payments on behalf of the organization. The Treasurer shall be responsible for preparing and presenting to the Board quarterly and annual financial statements, and for preparing any intermediate statements at the Board’s 34

request. The Treasurer shall have chief responsibility for advising the Board on the financial feasibility of proposed actions. He shall also have responsibility for acknowledging receipt of donations, both at time of donation, and at the end of the year for tax purposes. v. The board may at any time vote on the creation of new officer positions (at which time the bylaws shall be amended to describe these new positions).

These positions will be not become formally active until filled by elections at annual meetings, as described above in (a)iv. vi. Other board members who do not hold regular officer positions may be given other titles and roles at the board’s discretion (though these need not comprise offices for which they stand for election). Normally, such board members will be delegated to liaise with particular partner organizations, to assist the Vice-President in the evaluation and response to new funding requests, and to assist in coordinating fundraising operations, as well as other roles as needs shall arise. c. Meetings i. Ordinarily, the Board shall meet once a month to transact important business, whether in person, by phone, or internet. ii. All matters not otherwise specified herein may be deemed to be resolved by a simple (50%) majority decision of Board members.

1. Two-thirds of the Board must be present to constitute a quorum. In the absence of a quorum, the members present may pass provisional resolutions, but these must be subsequently voted on by other board members, whether by correspondence or at a follow-up meeting, to obtain the necessary majority, before such resolutions may be considered final, or acted upon. iii. Resolutions may be tentatively passed in the interval between Board meetings, whether by correspondence or online voting, so long as they are formally approved by a vote at the next monthly Board meeting. iv. Monthly meetings should be preceded by an agenda, prepared by the President and Secretary, and carefully recorded in minutes, to be prepared by the Secretary. v. At least once a year, the Board shall seek to meet in person at a location convenient to its members, in order to resolve more difficult business. This annual meeting will also be the time for the election of officers, as described above. vi. The date of the Annual Meeting may vary according to the scheduling constraints of the Board members, but the spacing between meetings should be kept as close to one year as possible.

V.

a. The vast majority of Jubilee’s funding will come from donations, whether from private individuals or other foundations and organizations. b. Donors may also elect to make one-time gifts or ongoing pledges of support designated for a particular project, event, or initiative. Such donations may not be considered binding on the board in accordance with Internal Revenue Service rulings, however Jubilee will give weight to the donors desires and will pre-alert any such donor to cases which the Board in its sole discretion concludes to be out of line with Jubilee’s charitable mission. c. Any member of the Board is authorized to solicit donations on behalf of Jubilee and to formally represent Jubilee to potential donors within the bounds of these bylaws.

Moreover, the Board may delegate or contract fundraising activities to other individuals at its discretion.

VI.

Expenditures a. Aside from the initial founding donation, the Board shall strive to spend all general undesignated donations in the following manner: i. At least 80% of receipts will be spent directly on the work of the organization, whether it is for purchase of educational materials, educators and specialists, etc. ii. No more than 10% of net receipts will be spent on overhead expenditures, including such costs as software, web development, design, postage, printing, etc. iii. No more than 10% of net receipts will be spent on the travel expenses of board members or individuals authorized to represent the board at events or fundraising, or on the remuneration of board members or individuals employed by the board. b. The allocations prescribed above in VIIa will be reviewed annually, and may be altered at the Board’s discretion, but only by unanimous decision. c. Any decisions to remunerate Board members for their work on behalf of the organization must be approved by a decision of 2/3 of other Board members. d. Any decisions to contract expenditures must be authorized by the decision of the Board as a whole and may not be entered into by individual Board members acting on their own discretion. e. An exception to the above is when individual Board members have been delegated to make particular expenditure decisions within general parameters already authorized by the Board. For instance, if a bursary fund has been approved, and two Board members deputed to administer it, they may authorize the particular bursary amounts, and direct the Treasurer accordingly, without seeking Board approval for each individual transaction. f. Each member of the board shall be a signatory on Jubilee’s bank account.

g. The Treasurer will be responsible for maintaining receipts for and records of all Jubilee’s expenditures.

VII.

Amendments a. These bylaws may be amended at an annual meeting by a 6/8 majority of board members present.
