Our Story
Clos de los Siete “C7” is the culmination of a 35-year quest by celebrated winemaker Michel Rolland to make the ultimate Bordeaux blend in the Uco Valley.
Originally from Bordeaux, Michel Rolland is worldrenowned for his master blending and winemaking talent. Michel first traveled to Argentina in 1988. He immediately fell in love with the country’s beautiful landscape, culture and fantastic winegrowing potential. In his frequent return trips, Michel became determined to find the perfect location to plant his own vineyard. In 1998, he discovered a special plot of land located at the foot of the Andes Mountains in the Uco Valley.
Intrigued by its unique combination of high altitude, welldrained soils, optimal aspect and dry climate, Michel was the driving force behind the acquisition of Clos de los Siete, an exceptional site for Malbec and other Bordeaux varieties.

Clos de los Siete Family
Michel Rolland partnered with six other French family wineries to purchase Clos de los Siete, or “the Vineyard of Seven.” The partnership of seven families allowed the site to remain whole. Today, it is recognized as one of the most magnificent single vineyards in Uco Valley, encompassing 2,100 acres subdivided into seven holdings.
Four of the seven original families contribute grapes from select parcels to the C7 blend: Monteviejo, Cuvelier Los Andes, DiamAndes and Bodega Rolland.
True to its origins, C7 is a Malbec-driven Bordeaux blend that bridges New and Old World winemaking with profound inspiration.

Vineyard
The Clos de los Siete vineyards are located 60 miles south of Mendoza in the Uco Valley, which is considered the wine capital of Argentina.
With soil consisting of pebbles, clay and sand, this iconic area at the foot of the Andes is home to the highest-quality Malbec grapes in the world. A unique combination of highaltitude vineyards (planted at 3,600 feet), well-drained soils, perfect exposure and a dry climate make Clos de los Siete an exceptional site for growing Malbec and other Bordeaux varieties.

Terroir
Michel Rolland was one of the first global vintners to recognize the world-class potential of Uco Valley. A unique balance of climatic factors make the Clos de los Siete terroir particularly favorable for Bordeaux varieties:
Soil composed of pebbles, sand and clay allow for great drainage
High sunlight hours and a south-southwestern orientation ensure grape ripening and full flavor
Extreme altitudes support diurnal temperature swings allowing grapes to ripen slowly with great concentration
Arid conditions with no humidity (due to proximity to the Andes) naturally protect grapes from disease
Fresh water irrigated from the purest snow melt nourishes the vines and sustains biodiversity

Blending
Michel Rolland reinvented the Bordeaux blend to match the unrealized potential of Uco Valley. Every year, Michel tastes hundreds of wines from the finest parcels at each of the Clos de los Siete family wineries. He chooses the best components in every vintage for the C7 blend, creating a unique expression through masterful blending. While Malbec always dominates, C7 can also include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
