THE MISSION Saint Boniface Academy partners with families to disciple in biblical truth, to instruct through liberal arts, and to train for courageous living.

Our Deep Hope Our deep hope is that Saint Boniface Academy will provide joyful education by fostering holy curiosity, stimulating a love of learning, and cultivating confidence in Christ. That our students will develop deep biblical understanding, resulting in wisdom, and see Christ at the center of God’s revelation. Our ultimate hope is that our students are biblically grounded, full of truth, goodness, and beauty. We desire that they live joyfully and courageously while advancing the great commission.

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION We disciple students in gospel-centric education that is robustly Christian and pedagogically classical.

We equip students to flourish in this world by being what Jesus describes as “wise as serpents and gentle as doves” (Matt. 10:16). Our desire is to cultivate hearts that wonder and worship the Triune God and thereby discern what is good, true, and beautiful. We partner with parents in this endeavor and want to maximize the individual abilities that God has given each child. We desire students to engage in a love of learning through integrated fields of study that promote mastery and build the thinking skills necessary for a successful life in serving the Lord.

Philosophy of Humanities To study the humanities is to study what it means to be made “in the image of God.” We integrate the various fields of study: Literature, History, Theology, Writing, and Grammar. We journey through eras of time as an entire school and rotate on a four year cycle: Ancient, Medieval, Modern, and US History.

Our focus is primarily on our Western heritage, but we believe that understanding Eastern history is also important to studying the Image of God and thereby weave this alongside a robust study of our Western heritage.

Philosophy of Bible Delving into Scripture is to engage with the story of the world. At Saint Boniface Academy, we recognize that while the time-honored use of catechisms has waned, their essence in imparting foundational truths remains vital. Our educational journey takes students from basic biblical teachings 5

to a deeper, more profound grasp of scriptural truth. We emphasize the application of biblical knowledge, the discernment of doctrinal positions, and a thorough comprehension of the biblical story. Upholding the Bible as the ultimate authority on truth, goodness, and beauty, it is seamlessly integrated into every aspect of our curriculum. This conviction forms the cornerstone of our worldview and is central to our philosophy, fostering a life mature in faith and wisdom.

Philosophy of History History shows the pattern of human behavior and witnesses to the truth of God’s Word and his gospel.

Students are challenged to build a thorough knowledge of the past, informed by original sources, in order to discern how to live faithfully in the present. The study of history shows God’s mission for Creation and mankind’s need for a Savior; history is completely fulfilled in Christ. The discipline of discerning correlation from causation will be paramount to the study of history.

Philosophy of Literature Literature provides the opportunity to recognize the human condition through the power of story, and understand our role in God’s grand story. We do this by studying fiction, non-fiction and source text.

In literature we are given a unique vantage from an omniscient perspective in the lives of the characters—through the eyes of the author. Reading also provides a position of innocence while giving opportunity for discernment through the tensions of life and God’s authorship of redemption.

Through literature we are able to train skills of discernment and wisdom. All chosen literature will have an intentional purpose to develop a God-centered perspective in all things.

Philosophy of Art Art is part of a robust Christian education because of its place in Scripture. In Genesis, God creates, sees, and evaluates all that he makes and calls it good. In creation, beauty precedes utility. Having been made in the image of God, people mirror God in creating and discerning that which is beautiful. Art also has an ethical dimension (Gen. 3:6; Psalm 101:3; Matt. 6:22; Phil. 4:8; 1 John 2:16). Furthermore, art serves as a window into other times and cultures, which aids a fuller study of anthropology.

Education is not just about thinking academically, but also appreciating that which is true, good, and beautiful to the glory of God.

Philosophy of Music Music and singing are part of the very fabric of Scripture and are scattered throughout the Old and New Testaments. The Bible continually calls for singing (Ex. 15; Psalm 96; Psalm 100; Eph. 5:19). God is described as rejoicing over us with “loud singing” (Zeph. 3:17). The book of Psalms consists of 150 songs for the people of God to sing which cover the range of emotion. Furthermore, the benefits of studying music and singing include and incorporate analytic thinking, language, breath control, math, social skills, and confidence. In addition, studying music cultivates patience, humility, goodness, and self-control, which are fruits of the Spirit. At Saint Boniface Academy, we want our students to be well-equipped to heed the words of the Apostle Paul, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” (Col. 3:16).

Philosophy of Language God created us to communicate through language. God himself is a communicative God in creation, in Scripture, and through his Son—whom John calls the very “Word” of God. At Saint Boniface Academy, we teach Latin because it gives us a foundational understanding of the mechanics of language, which further develops our mastery of English. About 80% of English vocabulary is borrowed, mainly from Latin. Latin is foundational to other languages (e.g., French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Romanian). Even the abbreviation “e.g.” stands for the Latin phrase exempli gratia, meaning “for example.” Developing Latin skills, because the language is well structured, trains the mind to recognize logical ordering. What’s more, many historical documents of Western civilization and of our Christian heritage were written in Latin. Latin also forms the basis for much of the vocabulary in several professional careers (e.g., law, medicine, botany).

Philosophy of Math Math is ultimately seeking objective truth. It is the way that God formed the universe, and understanding math gives us a greater understanding of the God of order. There are important skills to solving problems, and we afford time for mastery so that students can have a deep and robust understanding. We equip students to puzzle through problems and ultimately seek truth in this important field of study that correlates to both pragmatic and theoretical studies in a broad array of areas.

Philosophy of Science Contemplating God's creation is not just an act of observation; it's a prelude to worship. Science serves as a valuable tool in interpreting God's world, yet it remains secondary to Scripture. Scripture lays the foundation of truth, and since all truth is an extension of God's truth, delving deeper into scientific discoveries about the world enhances our understanding of the Creator Himself. By integrating the study of science with biblical and natural revelation, students can attain greater depth and expertise in their scientific endeavors."

CULTURAL ISSUES On Gender, Marriage, and Sexuality Saint Boniface Academy is committed to the infallibility of the Christian Scriptures in all matters of faith and life. Our aim is to be aligned with the truth of the Bible even when that means being out of alignment with what is considered popular or culturally-acceptable. Moreover, especially as it pertains to the statements below, Saint Boniface Academy stands in continuity with what the Church has taught, believed, and confessed for over 2000 years. In these matters, we seek to be both clear and compassionate.

We believe that every person—regardless of sinful beliefs or actions—must be shown love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31). We repudiate hateful and harassing words or behavior about or toward anyone as out of accord with the teachings of the Bible, the character of our Lord, and the mission of Saint Boniface Academy. We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, sexual or otherwise, seeking his mercy and forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19–21; Rom. 10:9–10; 1 Cor. 6:9–11).

We believe that in order to preserve Saint Boniface Academy’s integrity and effectiveness, as a biblically faithful institution of Christian education and as a model to our community, it is imperative that all persons employed by Saint Boniface Academy in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, affirm and abide by this statement (Matt. 5:16; Phil. 2:14–16; 1 Thess. 5:22). We also expect students to uphold these biblical values regarding sex, gender, and sexual activity in their speech, dress, and conduct.

On Gender We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as either male or female, both in biological sex and in gender. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image of God (Gen. 1:26–27). To reject one's biological gender is an act of rebellion against God's design.* On Marriage We believe that according to the Bible, marriage has only one appropriate meaning: the union of one man and one woman in a holy relationship intended to be exclusive and lifelong (Gen. 2:18–25). We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between men and women joined in marriage (1 Cor. 6:18 and 7:2–5; Heb. 13:4).

On Sexuality We believe that participating in or approving of any form of sexual activity forbidden in the Bible (including unmarried sex, adultery, homosexual or bisexual behavior, and pornography) is sinful and offensive to God (Matt. 15:18–20; Rom. 1:24–32; 1 Cor. 6:9–10). *Saint Boniface Academy understands that due to sin, we are confronted with genetic brokenness which could include real gender dysphoria and the rare case of a child born intersex. Both situations, however, do not constitute a de-emphasis on the biblical pattern of male/female complementarity.

On Sanctity of Human Life We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in his image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Psalm 139). We believe this is the starting point for all discussions related to the sanctity of life (e.g., abortion, euthanasia, war).

STATEMENT OF FAITH As a ministry of Exodus Church we hold to the following beliefs as well as THE BELGIC CONFESSION.

Basic Beliefs I.

The Gospel A. We believe the gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ has come to establish his kingdom on earth. Through his perfect life, sacrificial death, and glorious resurrection Jesus has redeemed a 9

people for his own glory by graciously forgiving their sins through his atoning work on the cross. Jesus is now restoring his kingdom by the power of the Spirit through his redeemed people. This good news is the hope of the church that all things will be fully reconciled in Christ.

B. The gospel is centered in Christ; the foundation for the life of the Church, and our only hope for eternal communion with Christ.

C. The Gospel is not only the means by which people are saved but also the truth and power by which people are being saved; it is the truth of the Gospel that enables us to genuinely and joyfully do what is pleasing to God and to grow in progressive conformity to the image of Christ.

D. Salvation comes by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

II.

The Scriptures A. God’s authority is majestically displayed in Genesis 1, where the words “and God said” puncture the darkness of chaos and speak the cosmos into being. It is supremely challenged by a creature of his own making in Genesis 3: “did God really say ... ?” asks the serpent of the woman (3:1), and the question echoes down through the centuries that follow, all the way to the Book of Revelation, where God’s omnipotent reign is eschatologically established and every challenge to his authority destroyed (19:16; 20:14). This is the theological context for the question of the authority of the Bible.

We believe the Bible is God’s written revelation. Thus, its authority is the authority of God; for what Scripture says, God says.

III.

The Doctrine of Scripture: A. Unity and Diversity: 1. The unity of the Scriptures is found through the relationship of the sixty-six canonical books of the Bible. The unity of Scripture claims that the Bible presents a non-contradictory and consistent message concerning God and redemptive history.

Scripture itself is one of the redemptive acts by which God draws people into union with Christ and into a relationship with himself.

2. Diversity is observed in comparing the individual authors’ presentations of God and history. It is clear that the Bible consists of books written in different ages, cultures, genres and styles. Each book must be interpreted according to its unique composition.

B. Authority 1. The authority of the Scripture is based not on tradition, though tradition is massively important, and it is not based on its effectual nature to minister to the life of the believer. Rather, the Scripture is authoritative because it is the very word of God (2 Tim. 2:15). As God’s word, we ought to submit to its authority in the same way we submit to God. God and his word cannot bifurcate unless we lose authority altogether. A proper doctrine of Scripture is, therefore, profoundly theological: it is grounded in the character and nature of the God who speaks the Scriptures and the relationship between God and his words.

C. Inspiration 1. Inspiration is that extraordinary, supernatural influence exerted by the Holy Spirit on the writers of the canonical Scriptures, by which their words were also rendered the words of God, and, therefore, inspired. According to this mode of formation, the whole of Scripture is the product of divine activities. This does not happen by The Spirit overriding the activities of the human authors, but in perfect harmony with them; so that the Scriptures are the joint product of divine and human activities. Both the divine and human penetrate them at every point, working harmoniously together to the production of a writing which is not divine here and human there, but at once divine and human in every part, every word, and every particular.

D. Inerrancy/Infallibility 1. The Scriptures, both old and new testaments, being authoritative and inspired must also be inerrant in their original transmission. Believing that the Bible is the actual word of God demands infallibility because it is the word of an infallible God. There must always be humility when a fallible human engages with the infallible word not to think that one's interpretation is infallible along with the Scripture. In like manner, if the word of God should apparently contradict our theology, we ought to presume our theology to be that which is flawed.

IV.

The Godhead 11

A. Trinity 1. We believe in one living, sovereign, and all-glorious God, eternally existing in three Persons: God the Father, fountain of all being; God the Son, eternally begotten, not made, without beginning, being of one essence with the Father; and God the Holy Spirit, proceeding in the full, divine essence, as a Person, eternally from the Father and the Son. Thus, each Person in the Godhead is fully and completely God. Within the divine economy, each member of the Trinity works in unity as Opera Trinitatis ad extra sunt indivisa (the external works of the Trinity are indivisible). When God acts, he always acts as Trinity. However, the Trinity is also to be understood according to the doctrine of appropriation. The doctrine of appropriation notes that the function of the Son is not equally the function of the Father. However, the function of the Son is the function of the Trinity.

B. Attributes 1. The attributes of God are those characteristics of the Triune God that are permanent and intrinsically inherent within himself. These attributes consist of communicable attributes (those that he shares with other beings) and incommunicable attributes (those that he does not share or “communicate” to anyone or anything else).

2. We believe that God is not simply the sum of his attributes. His attributes are not separate from one another, but each one modifies or qualifies each of the others.

V.

The Person and Work of Christ A. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary in order that He might reveal God and redeem all things (John 1:1–2, John 1:14, Luke 1:35, Col. 1:19-20).

B. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice, and that our salvation is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead (Romans 3:24, 1 Peter 2:24, Ephesians 1:7, 1 Peter 1:3–5).

C. The Deity of Christ 1. Jesus Christ is completely in every way equivalent with God in nature and divinity. He is eternal, co-existent and shares in the attributes of the triune God. There was never a 12

time when Jesus ceased to be divine, rather in the incarnation he added humanity to his divinity thus operating as the unique God-man.

D. The Humanity of Christ 1. While Jesus was wholly God, in the incarnation, he took upon himself humanity. His humanity was not partial, or in some way spurious, his humanity was just as real as his divinity. Jesus experienced real emotion, pain, hunger, love, temptation and every other human experience except sin. The author of Hebrews places a perfect identification of Christ with man (Heb. 2:6-9).

E. The Work of Christ 1. Jesus came as the promised Messiah of Israel was conceived through the miraculous agency of the Holy Spirit and was born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a perfect life in complete submission to God the Father. Through his obedience, Jesus fulfilled prophecy, fulfilled the demands of the law, performed miraculous signs, and proclaimed both in his body and his teaching the kingdom of God. Through his obedience, he also inaugurated the new covenant, was crucified under Pontius Pilate and was resurrected from the grave.

2. On the cross he removed the penalty of sin which is death, he propitiated God, and, by bearing the full penalty of our sins, reconciled to God all those who believe. By his resurrection Christ Jesus was vindicated by his Father, broke the power of death and defeated Satan who once had power over it, and brought everlasting life to all his people; by his ascension, he has been forever exalted as Lord and has prepared a place for us to be with him.

VI.

The Person and Work of The Holy Spirit A. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption. (John 16:8–11, 2 Corinthians 3:6, 1 Corinthians 12:12–14, Romans 8:9, Ephesians 5:18) B. The Holy Spirit is fully God, equal with the Father and Son, whose primary ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ; he also convicts unbelievers of their need for Christ and imparts spiritual life through regeneration (the new birth).

C. The Spirit permanently indwells, graciously sanctifies, lovingly leads, and empowers all who are brought to faith in Christ so that they might live in obedience to the inerrant Scriptures.

D. The Holy Spirit who indwelt and empowered Christ in like manner indwells and empowers us through spiritual gifts he has bestowed for the work of ministry and the building up of the body of Christ. Although there are different understandings of the nature and function of these gifts, we recognize that they are divine provisions central to spiritual growth and effective ministry and are to be eagerly desired, faithfully developed, and lovingly exercised according to biblical guidelines. (Matthew 3:11; 12:28; Luke 4:1, 14; 5:17; 10:21; John 1:12-13; 3:1-15, 34; 14:12; 15:26-27; 16:7-15; Acts 2:14-21; 4:29-30; 10:38; Romans 8:9; 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:7-13; 12:28-31; 14:1-33; 2 Corinthians 1:21-22; Galatians 3:1-5; Ephesians 1:13-14; 5:18) VII.

The Church A. We believe the church is the visible and invisible covenant community of God and the house and family of God. The church is Christ’s body and bride; the temple of the Holy Spirit; the new Israel and new Jerusalem; God’s royal priesthood; the firstfruits of the world to come; and the communion of the saints. (Ephesians 2:19, Romans 12:5, Ephesians 5:25/Revelation 19:7, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, 1 Peter 2:4-5, 9-10, Revelation 21:9-10, Romans 8:23, James 1:18, Jude 1:3) B. We believe that the church is called to join the mission of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to create other worshipers of Him, and to see the kingdom of God restored on earth as it is in heaven. (Acts 1:8, John 4:23, Matthew 6:10)

VIII.

The Sacraments A. Baptism 1. We believe that baptism is one of two sacraments given to the church of Jesus Christ.

Baptism symbolizes the power of the gospel to move us from the old to the new, from death to life, from animosity to harmony with God. It marks our union with Christ and our union with the body of Christ. Baptism is to act as a covenantal reminder of the new life Jesus purchased for us on the cross. We are, as baptized believers, to live according to our baptism, as faithful covenant members.

B. Lord’s Supper

1. The Lord’s Supper is one of two sacraments given to the Church. Communion is a time of covenant renewal where we partake of the bread and the wine (or juice) which represent the body and blood of Christ. Exodus Church holds to the Spiritual Presence view of communion meaning that though the bread and the wine do not literally turn into the body and blood of Christ, the bread and the wine represent the body and blood of Christ. As the church gathers each week to partake in the spiritual meal, we believe that Jesus is spiritually present with us in a special way.

Secondary Doctrine Saint Boniface Academy believes in the faith that was once “delivered to all the saints” (Jude 1:3). In this, we believe that all doctrine is important, but not all doctrine functions in the same way. There are doctrines which are essential to saving faith (Essential doctrines) and there are doctrines which adorn the gospel (Secondary doctrines). We believe all Christians ought to have unity in Essential doctrines, but charity in Secondary doctrines (even when accompanied with scrutiny).

Saint Boniface Academy is distinctly rooted in the historic Protestant tradition while recognizing the Christian identity of those in other historic Christian traditions.

Essential doctrines are those doctrines which the church has taught, believed, and confessed throughout history. Essential doctrines are found in those statements which have historically defined basic Christian orthodoxy: the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Chalcedonian Definition, and the Athanasian Creed.

Secondary doctrines are those doctrines which reflect distinctive denominational differences in otherwise historically-orthodox Christians. These differences include proper recipients of baptism (paedobaptism or credobaptism), expression of spiritual gifts (continuationism or cessationism), views of the end times (pre-millenialism, amillennialism, post-millenialism), etc. These are not unimportant doctrines and will be discussed and even challenged as secondary students discuss theology.

As a school, Saint Boniface Academy will clearly teach Essential doctrines and provide students the important tools in developing Secondary doctrines. Students will be encouraged to work through these with their parents and in their local church.

DISCIPLINE POLICY “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” –Hebrews 12:11 Saint Boniface Academy recognizes that the purpose of discipline is to develop our fellowship and love for God and neighbor (Mark 12:30-31). Discipline is necessary for discipleship. To this end, discipline is not meant to simply modify outward behavior, but to train the heart to love Jesus.

General Guidelines Discipline is administered in light of severity, situation, and attitude of the individual student. The kind of discipline may be determined by the teachers, and if necessary, Administration (e.g., Head of School) following the guidelines below. Any disciplinary action must be done in love with the hope of restoration.

Classroom Discipline God is a God of order and our teachers foster this order through classroom management (1 Cor. 14:33, 40). Students will be asked to behave in a way that fosters respect for their teacher especially as it relates to love for God and their neighbors in class. General behaviors that can be corrected in-class include: ● Minor classroom disruption ● Nuisance behavior to teacher or students ● Inappropriate use of classroom material Three opportunities may be offered to help students course-correct within the classroom. After three continuous corrections within the day, the child will be sent to the office so that the Head of School can take time to disciple the child through consequence and can contact the parents.

Office Visits Overt behaviors which require administrative involvement necessitates parent notification. Depending on the severity of the infraction, students may need to be picked up immediately from school and in some cases, receive suspension. For discipline to be effective, it is imperative for teachers and parents to behave as a team. If this can’t be accomplished, a student may need to be unenrolled until such a time as an agreement can be reached.

The overarching goal of discipline is to help a student love God and love their neighbor. We desire to partner with parents in discipling their child in any behavior that does not Honor God or Honor their neighbor. A list of possible infractions is below but is not exhaustive to dishonor: ● Disrespect shown to staff ● Gossip ● Dishonesty (e.g., lying, cheating, stealing) ● Defiance (e.g., outright disobedience, consistent correction, or rebellion) ● Fighting (e.g., striking another student) ● Bullying (i.e., when a student deliberately harasses another student during or outside of school and includes cyber-bullying) ● Enabling others bad behavior ● Acts that endanger the lives of another person ● Vandalism ● Theft ● Inappropriate use of school property or facility ● Inappropriate language (e.g., obscene, vulgar, profane) ● Romantic displays of affection (e.g., kissing, hugging, hand-holding, etc.) ● Sexual misconduct (e.g., inappropriate touching, use of pornography, etc.) ● Illegal substance abuse (e.g., drug or alcohol use)

● Weapons on campus (e.g., guns, knives, etc.)

Degrees of Discipline The degree of discipline depends on the severity of the offense and falls somewhere along (but not limited to) this continuum. If the offense was “public” (i.e., disrespect to a teacher in front of the class) then the student will ask forgiveness of the class as a whole; if the offense was “private” (i.e., between two individuals) then the student will ask forgiveness of the individual. We desire a culture of honor, confession, and forgiveness.

Possible but not exhaustive consequences: 1. Verbal warnings (e.g., student’s opportunity to self-correct) 2. Acknowledging offense and making apologies (public offenses prompt public apologies, private offenses prompt personal apologies) 3. Making restitution 4. Re-Admittance Should a student who was expelled, or who withdrew to prevent expulsion, desire to be readmitted to Saint Boniface Academy at a later date, they would require a discipline hearing involving the parents, teachers, and school Administration. The Education Council, in consultation with the Head of School, will make a decision based on the student's attitude and circumstances.

Electronic Device Policy Use of personal electronic devices (i.e., phones, smart phones, portable gaming devices, smart watches etc.) by students is prohibited on campus. Such devices may be brought to school,but they must be checked in at the school office during school hours. ● Use of laptops is permissible for secondary academic purposes only under the pre-approved direction and supervision of a teacher. ● A first violation of this policy will result in immediate confiscation of the device, to be released to a parent or guardian. ● A second violation of this policy will result in a parent conference with Administration. ● A third violation of this policy will result in a disciplinary hearing. ● Saint Boniface Academy accepts no responsibility for use, breakage, theft, or loss of phone or other personal items.

Cheating and Plagiarism Cheating is defined as looking at another’s work without the teacher’s permission or communicating with another during an exam without the teacher’s permission.

Plagiarism is defined as using another’s work without acknowledging and thanking them for the use.

If either cheating or plagiarism is noticed, the assignment or exam will immediately receive a 0. Parents will be notified. A second cheating or plagiarism infraction will result in an Education Council review.

Dress Code Violation If faculty notices a dress code violation,* they will inform Administration (or Head of School), and Administration will notify parents through a Dress Code Violation Form (via ClassReach). After 4 dress code violations, an office visit will follow in addition to email notification. After the 5th violation within a semester, the student will be sent home. Subsequent dress code violations will require the Head of School to treat the violations as office visits in accordance with the discipline policy. *A dress code violation is something that cannot be corrected while on campus (i.e., tucking in a shirt).

OUR PROGRAM On Curriculum At Saint Boniface Academy, we believe that curriculum is a tool, which is essential, but the teacher brings education to life through use of that tool. As such, in addition to using various curricula and a developed list of skills and objectives we will obtain the most qualified and dedicated teachers as possible: teachers who exemplify a love of learning and point young students to Jesus Christ through immersing their teaching in goodness, beauty, and truth.

Philosophy Of Grading Grading Policy Grading should tell a story of a child’s progress in learning, and because, as Christians, we believe that education of the whole man is essential, Saint Boniface Academy uses both academic and character grades so that parents can see whether a poor grade is a sin issue or an academic struggle. Assessment & Grading Protocol Grades at Saint Boniface Academy do not in any way reflect the immeasurable worth and value of each child made in God’s image, but rather they are a reflection of the quality of work in a given field of 21

Secondary Program The Saint Boniface Academy Secondary Program Students at Saint Boniface Academy prepare for our secondary program in our Secondary Prep class. When ready, a student will move to our Secondary programs. We will hold an important “Credit Objectives” meeting to create a robust high school program tailored to the student. In April, as a student is completing his/her third year of high school credit (traditionally a junior), he or she will present a SENIOR PROJECT PROPOSAL to the Education Council. This will be submitted and then either approved, sent back for revision, or denied with resubmission guidelines so the student can begin the project over the summer (prior to their Senior year). The Senior Project will be due in April of the proposed graduation year and will be presented to the board and the Education Council. This will be the capstone of our program.

Science (Recommend: 4 credits) 4 years Students will receive a deep and rigorous study in physical science, chemical science, and the biological sciences. We use experiments as foundational to the scientific process of hypothesis and conclusion.

Individual Grades Saint Boniface Academy will use a method of grading that ensures students have time to “practice” before they receive a grade. Therefore regular feedback within the scope of the class regarding new concepts will be given and “practice” grades will be recorded within the gradebook. Magnum Opus assignments (best work), that will more greatly affect overall standings, will also be recorded for transcript purposes. Consistent with educating the whole child, both attitude and effort will be considered within our grading systems.

Group Project Grades 1 Thessalonians 5:14 “And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.”

Group projects are a part of coursework and it should be expected that grading of these will not be individualized because we believe that character in community reveals the heart. Saint Boniface Academy cares even more about the heart than the academics, group projects allow teachers to see where character work is needed, and since we are preparing students for life, not just college, character in Christian community is integral to “Loving God and Loving Neighbor” (Matt. 22:36-40).

Mathematical Grading Policy Because math problems are objectively right or wrong, grading will follow a simple number correct out of the number of problems. ● Math examinations are 70% of the final grade ● Math homework, practicums, and projects are 30% of the final grade (group or individual)

Science Grading Policy Since science is taught through experiments, and discovery, this will be a participation and group project grade in the primary years and will move towards mastery grading through the various scientific fields of study in the secondary years.

Latin Grading Policy Latin is taught to build vocabulary and continue to grow English as well as Latin grammar skills.

Assessments will be based on these concepts and points will be awarded for the purpose of demonstrating mastery.

Humanities Grading Policy Vocabulary terms, spelling, grammar, and direct character names or dates will be objectively graded and will be on a points-based system. With mastery as our goal, students will be asked to correct the wrong answers.

Assignments that are more philosophical in nature will be graded on a scale. Within each assignment, grammatical and spelling mistakes will be clearly marked and students will be asked to review the word or grammatical rule and edit their writing. This promotes mastery in writing assignments.

Failing and Retakes Retakes will be left to the teacher’s discretion. A student who has simply failed for a lack of understanding may be given another opportunity to prove their understanding after further practice.

A student who neglected their studies and therefore failed, may not be given a retake opportunity.

If a student fails an entire course, the student, parents, and teacher will meet with the Education Council to determine the best course of action for the student. Circumstances, understanding of directions and effort will all be taken into consideration.

Parents will be notified within three weeks of the end of the grading period if their student is in jeopardy of failing.

PARENT COMMUNICATION AND INVOLVEMENT At Saint Boniface Academy, we recognize that parents are ultimately responsible for the education and flourishing of their children. We believe that educators are facilitators and advisors as parents pursue this important work.

Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled as needed. We encourage teachers and parents to communicate regularly about how the student is doing and to schedule formal meetings as needed.

Teachers may be contacted through ClassReach outside of regular working hours. When addressing any concerns, parents should copy the Head of School to keep the school informed of classroom circumstances. Teachers will do the same when addressing concerns via emails with parents.

If you have a concern about curriculum content, Saint Boniface Academy policy, or philosophy, communicate with the Head of School. If you have questions about the weekly workings of a particular classroom (e.g., homework load), contact the Lead Teacher through ClassReach. At no time should an individual student’s problem be addressed to non-involved parties. In the great majority of cases, if you have worked patiently and in good faith, with the teacher and directors, you will find a satisfactory resolution.

Please follow Matthew 18:15 to determine the proper order of communication: “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.”

HONOR CODE Parent Honor Code I am placing my child as a student at Saint Boniface Academy because I care about my child being educated both in character and in academics. I understand that my child will be educated under a Christian worldview and that loving God and neighbor are primary tenants of Saint Boniface 30

Academy. I also understand that the responsibility of Christian nurture is ultimately the responsibility of parents (Eph. 6:4, Deuteronomy 6:7-9). I understand the importance of participation in a local church and cultivating an at-home spiritual environment to the raising of my student(s) in the Lord.

Part of loving God and neighbor means being on time, present, and respectful. Saint Boniface Academy has been very thoughtful in developing a school schedule that allows for solid family time during summers, holidays and various breaks. For this reason, I understand that school attendance is a way of loving teachers and classmates and I will ensure that my child is present and on time unless an emergency arises. In cases of planned absences or important family time, I understand that it is my responsibility to communicate with the teachers and make a plan for the class time my child will miss without putting an excessive burden on the teachers. I also understand that poor attendance may cause my child to fall behind.

I understand that a Uniform Policy is a way of loving those around us by respecting a unified and meaningful representation of our school culture, including professionalism, modesty and our distinct values. I will make sure that my child follows the uniform policy so that this culture is maintained.

I understand that my child will need to submit to the authority of Saint Boniface Academy faculty and staff during school events. I also understand that I will be ultimately responsible for my child’s behavior while at Saint Boniface Academy and thereby will follow the directives of the school as outlined below.

If a discipline note goes home from a teacher or the Head of School, I understand that I need to work with my child on changing their behavior through the heart, by encouraging them to seek forgiveness.

If my child continues to incur infractions, it will be clear to me that I need to deal more seriously and consistently with my child. I also understand that my child will be dealt with in accordance with the discipline policy outlined in this handbook and that I will need to meet with the Head of School in cases of excessive office visits to work out a plan designed to correct my child’s disruptive behavior.

If my child continues to remain unresponsive to correction, I understand that my child may be subject to a disciplinary hearing as outlined by the discipline policy of this handbook. I also agree that if my child is subject to a disciplinary hearing before the school board for excessive office visits or for any extreme ungodly behavior that impedes school culture, that I will abide by the board's decision. If the school board decides to suspend or expel my child, I understand that Tuition will not be reimbursed.

I understand that the teachers at Saint Boniface Academy aim to educate the whole person and will keep the wellbeing of the student in mind. Therefore, all efforts will be made to not impede grading as it may affect my child’s next steps.

HEALTH & WELLNESS Lunch Students will bring packed lunches to be eaten in their classroom or outside if the weather permits.

Please pack lunches that do not have to be heated or refrigerated. Please also alert us of any allergies your child has so we can accommodate as needed and alert other families (if the allergy is very severe).

At Saint Boniface Academy, we value health and wellness, so please keep this in mind when packing lunches, as your young students will be learning about nutrition, a balanced diet, etc.

Snacks Parents are welcome to send an easy to eat snack (we recommend a nutritious snack) for mid-morning.

Water is the only beverage allowed to accompany snacks.

Health Records Saint Boniface Academy should be notified of any severe allergies or health concerns.

Administration of Medicines Saint Boniface Academy Administration may administer over-the-counter medication to the children in their care but only with authorization from the child’s parent or guardian.

Saint Boniface reserves the right to refuse the responsibility of prescription administration for any reason. If this occurs, we will be happy to accommodate parent visits during the day for the purpose of medication administration.

Illness Policy In consideration of your young student’s wellness, in addition, preventing the spread of illness to your child’s classmates and teachers, a young student should be symptom-free a full 24 hours from the following before returning to onsite classes: ● Fever—Temperature of 100 degrees or above without the use of fever-reducing medication ● Vomiting/diarrhea ● Please do not send children with a highly contagious illnesses such as strep, hand/foot/mouth, or pinkeye (to name a few).

Government Agency Requests Saint Boniface Academy values our parent partnership and as such we will notify parents of any interaction with a government agency such as child protective services, as it relates to your child. Our policy is as follows: ● Parents will be notified and their presence requested prior to a government agency being allowed to interview a child during school hours. ● Saint Boniface Academy will do its best to uphold this policy with any government agency but cannot be held liable if we are not able to get ahold of a family or if the government agency uses legal force to demand the interview.

Weekly Schedule Tuesday through Thursday are core academic days on site. Parents may choose Monday or Friday to be a day for review at home and Magnum Opus* (greatest work) to be assigned. *After a lot of practice, students will try their hand at producing their best work.

Daily Schedule School begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 3:30 PM. Parents may drop off children between 8:15-8:30 AM and they must be picked up between 3:30-3:45 PM. A fee will be implemented if there is early arrival or late pick up. Consistent early arrival or late pick up will constitute a meeting with the Head of School.

Attendance Saint Boniface Academy has intentionally set its vacations, schedule, and structure to allow important time for families. By registering a child in Saint Boniface Academy, the parent or guardian is agreeing to this schedule and it is loving to the community of students to be in attendance. Emergencies or important family time arise from time to time; therefore students have 8 academic days* within each semester for school absences without consequence to their credits unless pre-approvals are arranged.

We ask that the Administration be notified as soon as possible for any absences. A student that surpasses 12 days, or a total of 6 days (equivalent of 2 weeks) in a semester will be subject to an Education Council review which may result retainment, a paid tutoring supplement, or the student not being invited back.

For sickness: please notify administration through the ClassReach form provided.

For prolonged periods of absence (to extend beyond the 8 academic days) please get pre-approval from the Head of School. *Emergency situations will obviously be taken into consideration.

Tardies A student who arrives later than 8:30 AM is considered tardy. Four unexcused tardies within a month will constitute a parent email. A 5th tardy will result in an office visit. Subsequent unexcused tardies will be treated as office visits in accordance with the discipline policy.

ENROLLMENT POLICY Struggling Learners Saint Boniface Academy aims to teach students of all ability levels through solid Christian pedagogy and materials. Because we are able to take both conventional and unique learners, our program is very distinct. We offer classical teaching as input but only expect classical output based on the gifting of each individual student. Our teaching is done in a round table setting, where we move from the concrete to the philosophical as the students are ready. As long as we are able to serve the student well, we are open for enrollment with students who struggle. A student needs to be able to keep the discipline policy and while we may be able to support a diagnosis and assist with tools a child may need we do not allow a diagnosis to be an excuse for sin.

Anti-Discrimination and ADA Statement Saint Boniface Academy admits students of any race, color, national origin, and ethnic origin in all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Children diagnosed with a learning disability are welcome to be a part of Saint Boniface Academy so long as they can meet, or be assisted to meet, the discipline standards of the classroom, discussions, and daily routine.

Students applying for admissions should have a desire to receive this form of education. We do not mind assisting parents in fostering this desire, but the student needs to at the very least be “willing to be made willing” to be discipled through a Classical Christian education.

Tuition Assistance We do not want finances to be a reason that a family cannot send their children to Saint Boniface Academy while we also want to be good stewards of donor funds. We ask that families in need of tuition assistance ask grandparents, churches, and family before applying for financial aid. If tuition assistance is still necessary we use a third party financial aid processor called Benefaq. The application is $35 and Saint Boniface Academy receives a report related to what a family can feasibly afford based on their financial portfolio. With this information, our committee makes a decision taking into account the report and any extenuating circumstance. Our desire is that a family in need of tuition assistance is able to pay a minimum of 10% of their salary towards Christian education, but we also review the financial circumstances in making our determination.
