the overhanging net, about 20 feet above the field, a free kick is awarded to the other team; if there is an accumulation of six fouls the other team receives a two minute power play; instead of a yellow or red card a serious foul warrants a blue card and time in the box. Lady Freedom goalkeeper Alicia Kahler described the indoor play as being quicker, sharper, and faster. “My strength is shot blocking and I absolutely love it, but off the wall? I need to get use to that, she said. Hannah Rogers, who had one goal on the evening, says that you have to be quick on the smaller field because there are fewer girls moving the ball quickly between them. Both teams battled in the first 15 minutes, leaving the Lady Freedom ahead 3-2. The second quarter ended with an impressive five-goal run and hat-trick finish by Heather Zine, putting the Lady Freedom ahead 8-2 at half. After an eight minute intermission the Lady Free-

dom came out a bit on their heels until former Battle Mountain High School star Ali O’Neill found the back of the net with 30 seconds left in the quarter. In the final stretch our home team pushed in three more goals to the F.C. Mile High’s two, ending the game 12-4. Scoring for the Lady Freedom included efforts from Heather Zine, Lauren Meehan, Kim Raess, Marissa Ammaturo, Melissa Kline, Ali O’Neill, Kelly Boswell, Barbara Weber and Hannah Rogers. Half of the proceeds from door sales last night go to the “Kick for the Cure — a fundraiser for the Sonnenalp Breast Cancer Center. The Lady Freedom and men’s Freedom soccer teams will host seven youth camps this summer coached by Freedom players and guest coaches including University of Colorado women’s soccer coach Bill Hempen. For information on the camps email Matthew Zaremba at mzaremba@wecmrd.org, or call the Edwards field house at 970-766-5555.
