elcome to OC Weekly’s 2017 print edition of our annual 420 guide, previously known as the Rolling Paper. It’s a cause for celebration, because barring some unprecedented crackdown on California’s marijuana industry by the Trump administration, this will be the last April 20 when it’s still illegal for adults 21 and older to purchase pot at their local dispensary without a doctor’s note. Thanks to California voters last November, Proposition 64, which legalized recreational cannabis statewide, it’s already legal for adults to smoke and possess up to an ounce of weed. But because state regulators are still drawing up the legal paperwork, it won’t be until at
least next January when it will be legal to actually purchase recreational pot. In honor of this momentous occasion, we present a peek inside the headquarters of California’s marijuana business empire in Los Angeles by Weekly staff writer Mary Carreon, and a photo essay by photographer Bridget Arias featuring some of the biggest up-and-coming entrepreneurs, activists and experts in Orange County’s cannabis legalization movement. Enjoy, and for all the latest updates on marijuana culture, law, politics, news, and medical updates, be sure to visit the Weekly’s brand new website about all things cannabis, PotPlus.com.
