INSIDER

PATRICK LANG OF LAS VEGAS SANDS CORP. – By Stacey Gualandi

On a recent Friday afternoon, I found the per-

fect prescription to take away the pain from a chaotic week: Penicillin. It was just what the doctor ordered…but to be clear, this Penicillin was a concoction of lemon juice, scotch and honey-ginger syrup poured onto an oversized square ice cube, and one of the fabulous signature cocktails now being served at The Dorsey in Venetian Las Vegas. This elegant 4,500-square-foot lounge opened in December 2016, steps away from the casino floor where it showcases a magnificent “infinity” bar; an intimate library and fireplace space; and a floor-to-ceiling gold birdcage. “We wanted to appeal to a customer who is looking for a sophisticated, elevated upscale lounge experience,” says Patrick Lang, vice president of Global Restaurants and Nightlife Development for the Las Vegas Sands Corp., and one of the executives behind this new cocktail concept that also served as the perfect backdrop for our interview. “One of the things we wanted to deliver [was] not only a really comfortable lounge environment [but] also the same level of cocktails and service,” says Lang. “If you can’t deliver on the experience side of the business—good music, nice lighting and great cocktails—you’re not going to give customers a reason to come back.” Lang has certainly delivered in the 6 years since he first arrived in Las Vegas. Born in Kentucky, he grew up in Atlanta and went to school at the University of Pennsylvania. (“I’ve been around,” he jokes.) His background is in investment bank-

ing and finance, which Lang says exposed him to some restaurant and retail experience, but he wasted no time becoming an innovative force in hospitality. Lang resides in a high-rise overlooking the Strip as well as the Venetian and Palazzo—two of the eight properties (along with dozens of restaurants/nightclubs) in the Sands Corp. family that keeps him jet setting around the globe. When not in Las Vegas, he travels frequently to Singapore, Macao, and Bethlehem, Penn., to oversee the restaurant and nightlife scene he is determined to develop and expand. And on this particular Penicillin-filled Friday of mine, Lang took a quick time out to talk about his success, frequent flier miles … and how it’s possible to be a Vegas man with no vices.
