Big shoes to fill for DL track teams BY ROBERT WILLIAMS

The Detroit Lakes track teams look to continue success built in 2015, which featured a girls team the rewrote the DL record books and sent four athletes to the college level in Kyley Foster, Ally Berg, both at UND, AddieKay Johnson at Bethel, and Shay Nielsen at the University of Minnesota. All four have made early impacts in their freshman seasons. “We have almost a completely new team from last year, and so it’s going to take some time to figure out where each athlete will fit in,” head coach Mike Labine said. Last season, the Lakers had top-end talent and depth to back it up. The 2015 senior girls were one of, if not the most successful group in DL history. Of the Lakers eight all-conference athletes, seven were lost to graduation. Junior Mathia Olds returns with a number of all-conference honorable mention athletes in juniors Haidyn Gunderson, Naomi Larson and Mackenzie Ostlie, along with sophomore Emma Disse. “They have been working hard and have been very willing to listen and be coached, so there will be some huge improvements throughout this sea-
