Church of St. Rosalie “The seed that fell on good ground grew up and yielded a hundredfold.” Luke 8:8 Saint Patrick’s Day, 2013 Mr. Dennis O’Rourke President, Ancient Order of Hibernians Michael Collins, Division 11 Hampton Bays, New York 11946 Dear Dennis, Congratulations on the ninth year of the great St. Patrick’s Day Parade sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians here in Hampton Bays! I salute you and our local chapter of the AOH! I also acknowledge John Ryan, Parade Chairman, and volunteer Hibernians! Again, on March 23, I welcome all parade goers to Saint Rosalie’s Church to join together in prayer at the 8:00 a.m. Mass asking for the intercession of St. Patrick, the great missionary to the Emerald Isle! How great to step out with all as the parade gets underway, and to continue the festivities at Saint Rosalie’s Community Center, following the parade, for great corn beef and cabbage and refreshment that the AOH has prepared! I am happy to congratulate and salute our 2013 Grand Marshal of the Parade: Sister Kathy Schlueter, S.J., Principal of our Regional Catholic School, Our Lady of the Hamptons. She shepherded the addition of the second floor in1998 and the Pre-K in 1999. Sr Kathy has presided over the exciting new building of the new Gymnasium and Wellness Center in 2012. She taught at St. Raphael, East Meadow 1961-63 as a lay teacher. After Sister Kathy entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Brentwood, her first mission was at St. Patrick’s, Smithtown 1967-71 in grade 4 (1 year) grade 1 (3 years). She directed parish musicals, taught boys’ choir, folk group, glee club, adult choir. From 1971-87 she taught at Sacred Heart Academy as a Music teacher, Honor English, Dean of Students, Student Council moderator, Activities coordinator, director of musicals, Glee Club, Repertory performing group, Theatre Troupe. She is an extremely talented musician: an organist, cellist, pianist, as well as a photographer. Sr. Kathy has been a leader in our community for over 25 years. She is a woman of vision and of faith. She saw the growth of Catholic Education here on the East End and has not only overseen two building expansions, instrumental and methodical in raising the needed funds reaching out to the community and beyond. I would like to leave you with this Irish Prayer for all to read: May God give you ... For every storm, a rainbow, For every tear, a smile, For every care, a promise, And a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, A faithful friend to share, For every sigh, a sweet song, And an answer to each prayer. Through the intercession of Saint Patrick May God Bless you and the Ancient Order of Hibernians and all celebrate the great Feast of Saint Patrick!

The Ancient Order of Hibernians The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) in America was officially formed in New York on May 4, 1836 at St James Church. It was born in anger centuries earlier in Ireland, after successive invasions of those who tried to master the Irish and alter their Gaelic life style. Inflexible opponents like the Vikings were fought until their power was broken; others, like the Normans, were absorbed until they became as Irish as the Irish themselves. Through it all, the Irish maintained their language, traditions and religion. Today’s AOH, with its motto “Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity, is the most recent link in the evolution of ancient Irish societies. Organized in Ireland for the purpose of defending Gaelic values and protecting Church and clergy, it is the successor to the secret societies of old. The early AOH in America remained a secret society, and little is known of its activities except that it provided a monetary stipend to immigrants who arrived as members in good standing from the Irish Order and assisted them in obtaining jobs and social services. Quite naturally, the early AOH divisions were nurseries for the preservation of Irish culture and traditions in America. In large measure due to the significant contributions of the Irish in defending the Union during America’s Civil War, the AOH became stronger. Also, as the militant support of their Church dwindled ,the AOH shifted its purpose to charitable activities in support of the Church’s missions, community service, and the promotion and preservation of their Irish cultural heritage in America. Today, they stand not only as the oldest Catholic lay organization in America, but as the largest Irish society in the world with divisions in Ireland and 49 of the United States. The AOH is partitioned into divisions, county and state boards, and is governed by a national board elected every two years. The division is the basic unit in the Order, and membership in a division is membership in the Order. Even county, state, and national officers maintain membership in a local Division. Annual dances, concerts, and parades sponsored by all levels of the Order raise millions for charity, while providing a showcase for positive contributions of the Irish to every walk of American life. Divisions usually support local charities within their geographic areas, while sending a portion of their monies to higher levels for support of state, national, and international charities.
Hampton Bays Michael Collins Division 11 In April 2001 the Michael Collins Division 11 of the AOH was formed in Hampton Bays. The formation can be credited to Dan Heaney, the division’s first president and 15 years charter members who undertook a Shamrock Degree in May 2011. This charter nucleus has grown to over l00 members. The Division holds their monthly meetings on the first Thursday of every month at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hampton Bays. A Ladies AOH was formed recently and is now active with 80 members. The ambitious undertaking of hosting a St Patrick’s Day Parade is a testament to the enthusiasm and energy of this Irish fraternal organization. Sister Kathryn Schlueter The Hampton Bays Hibernians have chosen Sister Kathryn Schlueter, CSJ, the Principal of Our Lady of the Hamptons Regional Catholic School in Southampton, as the Grand Marshal of our St. Patrick’s Day parade for 2013. Sister Kathy was born in Brooklyn, and while she doesn’t have “an ounce of Irish blood”, she is Catholic through and through. She began her education in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, attending St. Ephrem’s elementary school. Later, her family moved to Merrick where Sister Kathy attended Sacred Heart Academy. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree at Marywood College in Scranton, PA. In 1963, Sister Kathy joined the Sisters of St. Joseph and will be celebrating her golden jubilee in September of this year. She later obtained her master’s degree in School Administration from Hofstra University. Sister Kathy began her teaching career as a first and fourth grade teacher at St. Patrick’s elementary school in Smithtown where she taught from 1967 until 1971. She left St. Patrick’s to become the Dean of Students at Sacred Heart Academy where she also taught music and drama. Sister Kathy became the Principal of Our Lady of the Hamptons in 1987. She marked her 25th anniversary as principal in 2012. In that time, enrollment has gone from 129 to 340 students. Twelve years ago a second floor was added to the school providing space for eight more classrooms. This year a new gymnasium has been added to the campus. Our Lady of the Hamptons has earned the Middle States accreditation in 2002 and 2012 and was the recipient of a “National Blue Ribbon of Excellence” awarded to only 56 schools nationally. Sister Kathy is rightfully proud of the achievements that her school has made and the Hampton Bays Hibernians are proud to name her the Grand Marshal of the 2013 St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Is Happy to Celebrate the Ninth Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade With AOH Michael Collins, Division 11
Tiana Shores Association, Inc. is a not for profit organization that has been operating as a beach and social club in Tiana Shores, Hampton Bays, NY since 1971. TSA is run by its members for its members with the goal of affording them the finest recreation at reasonable rates. Our access to Tiana and Shinnecock Bays, with all they offer water lovers, is unsurpassed. TSA membership is available to all homeowners and long term renters who live within the original boundaries of Tiana Shores. “Guesthips” are offered to our neighbors in surrounding communities as well as friends and neighbors sponsored by our members. With few exceptions, our facilities are operated by a dedicated corps of volunteers drawn from our family of members and guests. While volunteering is not required, it is encouraged and welcomed.
Beach Our sand beach, with plenty of lounges, tables, chairs, and umbrellas is open 365 days a year to all who hold membership and guestships. The bay is salt water and generally calm. It is ideal for wind surfing, sailing, and water skiing. During the summer, a large swimming area is clearly marked and available for use. Pool Our pool is a 30’ by 60’ freshwater granite pool, 3 to 6 feet deep. There is also a kiddies wading pool. The pools are open, weather permitting June through Labor Day. The hours are 10 AM to 6 PM daily. Adjacent to the pool is a large patio with tables, chairs, and umbrellas. Membership includes free use of pool, tennis and other facilities. However, there is a daily charge for visitors who must be accompanied by a TSA member: $5 for adults, $3 dollars for children age 5 to 14. Multi day discounts are available. Tennis Courts The beachfront tennis court has an all weather surface and is open every day, weather permitting, from May to November, 9 AM to dark. Membership includes free use of court on a first-come, first -play basis. Visitors must be accompanied by a TSA member when using the facilities. Clubhouse Our facility consists of a heated and centrally air-conditioned, 150 person capacity hall, full kitchen facilities ,large highly polished dance floor, ample table and chairs, and expansive screened patio overlooking the water and 125 car parking lot. The club house is used for many social events throughout the year. It also serves as our meeting hall. When not in use for TSA events, the hall is available to our members at reasonable rates for anything from birthdays to weddings. In addition to our major facilities, TSA has a 70’ by 40’ basket ball court, a volley ball area on the beach, and a large play area for children complete with swings, slides, and an assortment of toys. All are there year-round for your enjoyment. Applicants, who pay their dues in full before March 31, will receive·6 Adult and 6 Child passes for this season. At out open house on May 25, 2013, we will offer a 10% discount on 2013 yearly dues for any new member who joins that day. We are located at the end of Old Field Lane in Tiana Shores.
