Do We Really Believe This (Green) Stuff? (And That We Are On Track To Meet 2030 Goals) Architect Edward Mazria issued the 2030 challenge in 2003. A summary from Wikipedia is on the next slide. The 2030 Challenge The ʻBuilding Sectorʼ is the major source of demand for energy and materials that produce by-product greenhouse gases (GHG). Stabilizing and reversing emissions in this sector is key to keeping future global warming under one degree Celsius (°C) above todayʼs level. To accomplish this, and avoid dangerous climate change, Architecture 2030 has issued 'The 2030 Challengeʼ asking the global architecture and building community to adopt the following targets: ■ All new buildings, developments and major renovations be designed to meet a fossil fuel, greenhouse gas (GHG) emitting, energy consumption performance standard of 50% of the regional (or country) average for that building type. ■ At a minimum, an amount of existing building area equal to that of new construction be renovated annually to meet a fossil fuel, greenhouse gas (GHG) emitting, energy consumption performance standard of 50% of the regional (or country) average for that building type. ■ The fossil fuel reduction standard for all new buildings be increased to: 60% in 2010 70% in 2015 How Are We Doing? 80% in 2020 90% in 2025 Saving Carbon-neutral by 2030 (zero fossil-fuel, GHG emitting energy to operate). How We Got Here 1. Politicians were told and believed (Hoped) that Home Performance could provide a lot of “Green Jobs” and fix the economy and the country. So they threw a LOT of money at the problem. Facts on the ground: Many have been trained and re-trained ... Mainly to be auditors or raters. Very few have been trained to do the real work. Few of these classroom trained folks are finding jobs. OJT is needed but is not included in most training programs. G r e e n E a r t h E q u i t i e s . C o m

Sports Analogy Everyone aspires to be a coach or a manager or a referee. No one wants to be a player. Some workers sign up to be players but the training programs only train referees. It takes “hands on” On The Job Training to make a Pro player or Construction Worker

Einstein Said: Make all systems as simple as possible ... But no simpler. We are a long way from SIMPLE in the current programs. And future is scheduled to produce even more complexity (HERS 2) Problem #2 Complexity

More Complexity More Complexity is introduced because many organizations want their “standard” & rating system to be acknowledged as the best standard and the one to use.

Of Course,You can offer your customer these Rebates and finacing... All you need to do is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, .........

Green Points, LEED, DOE, EarthAdvantage, BPI, and many more. If a contractor wants to get all the certifications, He will spend all of his time and all of his money getting trained and retrained .... And never get any work done G r e e n E a r t h E q u i t i e s . C o m

When You Could Do This? Saving The Planet One House At A Time

One Bright Spot The part of the Home Performance Industry that is working well is where an Energy Wise Investor does a deep retrofit on a foreclosed home. Due to the times and the things we’ve learned, this can be done profitably. Even Net Zero homes can be done with no programs and still cash flow positive!

Why wouldn’t a politician or a program manager jump all over that? TheSaving Planet

Who Wants To Play? We will work with any Utility or Government that wants to partner with us. But we need to write the programs, not them. Our entire board has a background in private sector work where “Aw Shucks, we didn’t meet our goal” has never been an option. That may mean a SMALL city or government to start with ... Because when Government grows, they tend to know everything.... So they cant learn anything new. G r e e n E a r t h E q u i t i e s . C o m
