Spinnin’ TV is the world’s best viewed dance channel on Youtube after going beyond the 5 million subscribers mark. Of all the music channels, regardless of genre, Spinnin’ TV now has the 18th spot. The channel of the record label Spinnin' Records from Hilversum has only competition from pop superstars like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry who all have their own personal channels. Spinnin’ TV shows among others video clips of Sander van Doorn, Martin Garrix and Afrojack. The subscribers come mainly from the USA, Europe and South America.

Cosmic Gate Launch Wake Your Mind Radio Its three words that turned from a rally cry to their fans into an acclaimed artist album, a social media sensation and most recently a record label. Now, magnifying that meaning once again, this April Cosmic Gate are pleased to announce the latest development in their #WYM marque. Bringing a new level of definition to Wake Your Mind’s sound, prepare yourself for Wake You Mind Radio.

For Spinnin" TV it means being able to reach out to 5 million subscribers that their objective of becoming' the MTV of dance music has suddenly come a lot closer. Spinnin’ TV was founded in 2007, initially as a convenient way to be able to send video clips via email. A year later when Spinnin’ Records found that people had started using Youtube for mass music consumption they decided to use and invest in the ultimate Youtube promotion platform for their artists. By signing the right releases and having a highly structured strategy for promoting their videos the channel reached the 3 million subscribers mark in december last year and it broke the limit of 2 billion views on over 5000 videos on the channel. It is the only Dutch channel in the global top 100 of most subscribed Youtube channels.

“Wake Your Mind Radio has been something we’ve planned on doing almost since the release of the album”, says Bossi “For a number of reasons we felt that the launch of the WYM label needed to come first. As it is though, the timing now couldn’t be any better”. “This is the last WYM move before the release of our new album” adds C.G.’s Nic. “With the stations and mediums we have partnered with, it has given us the best platform with which to bring our fans among the first listens to the new album’s material. The first show cannot now come soon enough for us!” ‘Hey! How can I hear Wake Your Mind Radio!?’ we hear you cry! Transmitting weekly WYMR gets its first ever broadcast on DI.FM between 13:00 and 14:00 US Eastern (18:00 – 19:00 UK / 19:00 – 20:00 Central Europe, before Above & Beyond’s show) on April 11th and every Friday from thereafter. That’s closely followed by a weekly broadcast on SiriusXM during the A State of Sundays programming from the 13th of April at 16:00 – 17:00 US Eastern (21:00 – 22:00 UK / 22:00 – 23:00 Central Europe). Carl Hanaghan unravels the Strings Of Life No stranger to the Zulu Records’ ever-impressive release roster, Carl Hanaghan is back for a fourth outing on the imprint, this time with his summer-tinged update of Rhythim Is Rhythim’s classic track ‘Strings Of Life’. Entering the Beatport House Chart at #71 and with support from the likes of My Digital Enemy, Kryder, Cedric Gervais and Sonny Wharton, we caught up with Carl to find out just what inspired him to re-visit this iconic track and what’s in store for the rest of the year… Hi Carl, thanks for taking some time out to chat with us – first up, what’s been happening for you in 2014? 2014 has been a great year so far! On the road I’ve had some superb gigs with the highlights being the Gibson Club in Frankfurt, Germany and over in Utrecht at Winkel Van Sinkel in the Netherlands. I’ve had an EP released on Sonny Fodera’s label, Beatdown, as well as the release of ‘You Know How’ on my label Discopolis. My Digital Enemy have signed my rendition of the classic ‘Strings Of Life’ for their label Zulu Records and to top it all off I’m going to be a Dad in August this year so it’s very, very busy at the moment! You’ve just released your own version of Rhythim Is Rhythim’s classic 1987 track ‘Strings Of Life’ on Zulu – how did this remake come about? I had been playing the version by Soul Central remixed by Mark Knight and Martijn Ten Velden that was released on Defected in 2005 and then more recently the Supernova remix that they commissioned in 2011; I just felt that it was time for an update as it was becoming evident that it is a record that I will continue to play on and on… What were your intentions when you set out to bring this classic track to the dance floors of 2014? I’ve been finding a lot of my sets of late had been varying between Deep House infused with Tribal beats and I wanted to do something with this classic record that worked in both of these worlds. Strings Of Life is your first solo release on Zulu – do you find you prefer working on collaborations? I love working in collaboration as you have someone there to dance along to the track with you. Solo disco dancing is cool, but it’s better when you’re all together enjoying the vibe, you get more of a feeling that a record will work on the dancefloor. What’s the big plan for Discopolis this year? Discopolis has some superb singles forthcoming from the deep and soulful side of House music, including beats from Vienna’s Klaue & Tatze and Manchester’s Fake • Remedy as well as a few cheeky singles from myself! We released our first Miami compilation this year during WMC which was a huge success! I am so happy with how well it was received that I’m looking to piece together an exclusive Ibiza EP shortly!

Having sought the sun-up in Sin City last year, 2014 sees Richard Durand take the ‘Search’ in the opposite direction, to a place ever increasingly tagged “the Vegas of the East”. The most gleaming emirate of them all, Dubai is as famous for its cloud-piercing skyscrapers as it is its wide expanse deserts. It’s also supports an electronic music ecosystem that’s surpassed ‘flourishing’ and long since hit ‘overdrive’, boasting huge crowd-pull festivals, a thriving underground studio scene, dedicated EDM sites by the dozen and its own monthly dance mag. Reflecting new clubbing principalities has been historically key to ‘Sunrise’s genetic. Richard’s fifth trip since taking the fiesta over from Tiësto, the excursion East sees the man from Amsterdam join forces with UK trance maestro Lange. The album follows in the fine traditions of the series by tapping the most creative, edge-cutting trance at its studio source. From there the pair have harmonically and seamlessly mixed ‘Sunrise’s Class of 2014 into three mixes that will again act as summer’s trance barometer. And this year, with ‘Dubai’, that reads hotter than ever. Reflecting everything from its mirrored high-rise cosmopolita to its heat refracted sandy shimmer, I.S.O.S. 12’s audio skilfully captures both the essence and heartbeat of Dubai’s DNA. Richard & Lange’s shared mission to bring its tracklist one album-exclusive after another has resulted in 200+ mixed-minutes of incredible music. Richard’s first mix initially comes quartered in the provinces of trance-progressive. Azotti feat. Bagga Bownz’s ‘Day And Night’ and Talamanca’s ‘Ocean Drive’ soundscape its beatific intro, before Laura Aqua’s bowed-but-unbroken vocals on Jeremy Vancaulart & Assaf’s ‘The Space Between’ turn up the emotional wattage. From there ‘Dubai’s shades & patterns undulate from the trance-tropic (Sean Tyas’ ‘Take A Moment’, RAM’s ‘Epic’ and others) to hothousers like Somna & Yang’s ‘Chasing Stars’. Adding to his own lucent album overture ‘Dubai Desert Fish’, Richard adds the purpose-built Tech of ‘Shield Of Faith’ to the mix’s midsection and the spicy ‘Sambuca’ to its closeout. Dawning every bit as bright, the second mix brings fresh-cut music like Ira’s ‘Don’t Tell Me’ (vocalled by the aptly christened Paulina Dubaj), ‘Forever In Our Hearts’ from Holland’s Ruben De Ronde and, adding deeper, more eclectic tones, Moonbeam’s ‘I Go On’. Alex O’Rion heats up on ‘Cocoa’, whilst High5 feat. Nanje Nowack ‘Ten Thousand Suns’ and ‘Karma’ from Hungary’s Sunny Lax keep things equally as thermal. Tying off his 2014 Sunrise quest, Richard works in ‘The Inquisitor’ from the on-fire Driftmoon (marking the pair’s second appearance after ‘Luminance’), the pure driven trance of Elfsong’s ‘Seldarine’ and Amir Hussian & Allen Watts equally flammable ‘Step Into My World’. After recruiting Myon & Shane 54 to his Las Vegas ‘Search’ last year, for 2014 Richard has invited none other than Lange to guest mix the third and final ‘Dubai’ disc. Over 80 minutes he brings together both the best of the underground with music from some of its scene-wide legends. I.S.O.S. forefather Tiësto’s ‘Just Be’ (in its newly reworked Kris O’Neil form), Andy Moor’s ‘Fade To Light’, ‘Out Of Coverage’ by Bobina and his own remake of ‘A Different Shade Of Crazy’ are just some of the big-name highs. Newer production names shine just as bright, as music from Tangle, Johnny Yono, Danilo Ercole, Dimension and others define and refine Lange’s ‘Dubai’ vision. ‘In Search Of Sunrise 12: Dubai Mixed by Richard Durand & Lange’ arrives in stores June 2nd.

I think the only real surprise that comes with this year’s ‘In Search of Sunrise’ destination is that it hasn’t come Dubai’s way sooner. Dance music has broken out in so many areas since I took over mixing the album, that’s it’s been a mission in itself to keep up! Dubai is a place I’ve played many times now and somewhere I know I’ll never get tired of coming back to. People go out of their way to find great music, great nights and great experiences here. It’s that passion, dedication and selectivity that I’m trying to reflect by shining the ‘Search’ light on the emirate”. RICHARD DURAND

“I was very excited to receive the invite to be part of the legendary ISOS series! I've really enjoyed putting this mix together; it’s turned out pretty dark and moody, spanning Progressive Trance through to peak time club bangers.” LANGE

WORLD’S TOP DJs AT SUMMERFESTIVAL. MORE THAN 30,000 TICKETS ALREADY SOLD. Summerfestival presales have kicked off once again with more than 30,000 tickets already sold through the Early Bird special offer. This year, the dance festival – which attracted more than 60,000 youths last year – will take place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June 2014 at the Nieuw Zuid festival grounds. A perfect start to a hot festival summer!

Nicky Romero – no. 7 in the DJ Top 100 – will be performing at Summerfestival!

Organisers of Summerfestival have managed to bring to the stage Nicky Romero who will be performing on Sunday together with several artists from his own Protocol Recordings label. This DJ and producer from the Netherlands is rapidly climbing the DJ Top 100 ranks. From virtually nowhere, he jumped the charts to 17th position in 2012, and to 7th position last year. It all started when he remixed ‘When Love Takes Over’ by David Guetta, his mentor. The rest is history. Since then, he has been working with Guetta on several projects, and in the summer of 2012, he accepted a residency at Guetta’s club at Pacha/ Ushuaia, Ibiza. At the age of 24, Romero is not only part of the world’s top DJs and producers, he also helps young artists get in touch with established names such as Calvin Harris, Nervo and Bassjackers through his Protocol Recordings label. Romero is considered one of the most innovating people in the world of EDM. Recent examples: the single ‘S.O.T.U.’ released on Steve Angello’s label, world hit ‘Legacy’ with Krewella, the single ‘I could Be The One’ with Avicii, etc. In the meantime, he also produced the track ‘Right Now’ for Rihanna as well as several numbers for Britney Spears.

Solid selection from the DJ Top 100 at Summerfestival

It’s no surprise, really, that in just a couple of weeks, more than 30,000 tickets have already been sold. The line-up of performers at this year’s Summerfestival includes many international artists! From all the names announced so far, no less than 12 are listed in the DJ Top 100. In addition to Nicky Romero, artists such as Afrojack (no. 9), Showtek (no. 27), Angerfist (no.34), Martin Garrix (no. 40), Zatox (no. 50), Brennan Heart (no. 61), Blasterjaxx (no. 71), D-Block & S-te-Fan (no. 72), Adaro (no. 75), Martin Solveig (no. 77) and Wasted Penguinz (no. 83) will be on stage at this year’s Summerfestival. And don’t forget the sets that will be played by Klingande, DVBBS, Digital Punk, Korsakoff, Alvar & Millas and some 150 other national and international acts across 8 stages and 2 festival days.

Former compiler/mixers of the multi-million selling Trance Nation series have included UK DJ eminence like Above & Beyond, Lange and Andy Moor, as well as Euro-heroes Ferry Corsten, Cosmic Gate and Rank 1. Now, joining that illustrious list, and for the first time bringing the series some Eastern spirit, Ministry of Sound are proud to welcome Egypt’s Aly & Fila to the Trance Nation honour roll. Past masters of the soundly rocked club, arena & festival and perennial Top 20 favourites in DJ Mag’s annual poll, they now bring their sonic (fire)brand to Trance Nation.

With music procured studio-fresh direct from the desks of some of their most trusted production legion, Aly & Fila’s Trance Nation contains a massive 14 never-previously-heard future-anthem exclusives. It also features work from numerous heavyweight trance operators, including the likes of John O’Callaghan, Thrillseekers, nge, John Askew, Ronski Speed and, naturally, much from Aly & Fila themselves.

ourced from some of Europe most established and reliable trance houses (Armada, Black Hole Recordings, Garuda, Subculre and A&F’s own Future Sound Of Egypt), 2014’s ‘Trance Nation’ touches down in the thick of a synth firestorm. Aly & a immediately fan those flames with music from some of the scene’s fast-tracking young-bloods. White hot studio-ware like mes Dymond's ‘Solidus’, ‘Next Level’ from Irish pairing Sneijder & Bryan Kearney and A&F’s entrancing re-paint of Luke ond & Roxanne Emery‘s ‘On Fire’ all deliver high-arcing synths up top… and bass-bin kickin’ LFO below!

e affecting vocal strains of Neptune Project’s ‘Lost All My Tears’ opens the gateway to a sequential rush of scene-wide gends. Both Andain’s classic ‘Beautiful Things’ and Aly & Fila/John O Callaghan collab ‘Your Heart Is Mine’ (in their newly mixed Fady & Mina forms) swell the sonics, as do the daisy-cutting drums of John Askew’s ‘Mechanism’ and Ronski Speed’s ositively empyrean ‘Fiero’.

ith its climactic sound draft, Mix 1’s final trance peaks are scaled by Thrillseekers & Standerwick’s 138 lightning strike ‘Like ey Used To’ and John O'Callaghan atom-smashing ‘One Special Particle’.

ix 2 dawns with Liam Wilson’s ‘Adventures In Stereo’, which syntheses Goa and Psy elements into T.N.’s make-up. With the ums pounding heavier and bass resonating deeper, its tough trance stance is further developed by A & Z vs. Allen & Envy 03-ride ‘Osiris’, whilst synth-slinger Photographer scripts evermore uplift and energy into A&F’s epic ‘Laily’.

pplying a box-out preview of Future Sound of Egypt’s summer catalogue, the early to mid sections of Disc 2, bring an rush of Aly & Fila’s label’s ‘forthcomings’. The irrepressibly spirited ‘Unbreakable’ from Temple One, the gravity resistant nths of Will Atkinson’s ‘Eternally’, ‘Sailing Airwaves’ - ReOrder & Ian Standerwick new SkyPatrol’s outing and Stanrwick’s own ballistic ‘Valyrian’ keep the mix’s needle firmly on the red line.

s the 2014 edition of Trance Nation reaches its culminating heights, the O’Callaghan remix of Lange’s ‘Unfamiliar Truth’ and yan Kearney and Will Atkinson respective rebuilds of Aly & Fila’s ‘Where To Now’ and ‘Mother Nature’ gives it its tour de rce coup-de-grace!

ance music delivered shot-glass-strong, ‘Trance Nation Mixed By Aly & Fila’ arrives May 26th!!

“The Trance Nation Compilations are legendary; we listened to the original Volumes mixed by Ferry Corsten over and over until we wore the CDs out. They were, and still are amazing compilations; we are very proud to have been asked to the Mix the latest Volume!" Aly & Fila

Le Temps des Cerises, an expert in worked, aged and patinated jeans, has made a name for itself as a true pioneer in denim fading. In this way, Le Temps des Cerises brings an authentic product and a vintage spirit in a never-ending quest for the best and most natural garment ageing. For several generations now, second-hand clothing has been gaining a larger and larger share in women’s wardrobes. Today, fashion is decidedly focused on vintage, and when it comes to denim this maxim is more than a trend : it’s a state of mind. Over a century, we have come to truly love denim, and it is this passion that drives us to seek authentic jeans, ones that have a history and carry the mark of our life or that of another.

32

DJNEWSMAGAZINE LIFESTYLE

With this observation in mind, we decided to launch a denim brand that includes style which, although new, appears aged or timeworn. Fading processes were developed like culinary recipes, with varying amounts of the ingredients used to ensure unique and high-quality fading effects. Le Temps des Cerises built its fame with its famous low-rise cut, the 102. This unmatchable cut earned our jeans the reputation of creating a “best bottom.” Since this success, Le Temps des Cerises has scrupulously stuck with this approach to offer authentic jeans with top-quality fits, season after season. Our jeans follow a woman’s curves perfectly, hugging the bottom and creating ultra-feminine lines.

LIFESTYLE DJNEWSMAGAZINE

In the period following WW2, Japan became the leading importer of military surplus clothing and one of the pioneers in vintage and second-hand fashion clothes, repurposing and customizing clothing into trendier and more urban styles. Japan Rags reminds this period in which Japanese second-hand fashion launched a trend that today has become a must-have in the wardrobes of fashion addicts. From fashion designers at more urban brands to home design and even those in the automotive sector, everyone has been won over by the charm of vintage culture.

34

DJNEWSMAGAZINE LIFESTYLE

It is in this rich universe that the brand finds its inspiration each season. The basics of second-hand clothes are reworked, rethought and redesigned to meld into more urban and sporty spirit. As denim is the mainstay of every look, the fabric is worked, shaped and patinated to give to each jeans a specific character and the absolute authenticity of a unique model. The fading and wear on the jeans are handcrafted, and each season sees new fading styles that we develop in our never-ending quest for a natural fabric-ageing process.

Protoculture Music Is More Than Mathematics 'Music Is More Than Mathematics' is an appropriate title for this exceptional album, and there's absolutely no formula for what Protoculture does. If "awesome" could be bottled into a jar, it would be this record. Finding better descriptors is as pointless as trying to compete with his musical talents. Certain albums defy conventional logic, and certain sounds are so transcendental that it's hard to see "trance" as anything but the right term. This is a special release, and one that covers as much territory as Protoculture's frequent trips around the globe. AVAILABLE ON ITUNES / BEATPORT

MATISSE & SADKO’s SIGURE Inspired by a legendary Japanese destroyer named Shigure known for being as unsinkable as it was lucky, “Sigure” proves its mettle on a dancefloor as the track wreaks sonic havoc. The word in Japanese also evokes “sudden rain with wind,” and it is perhaps this more poetic, peace-loving image that the producers had in mind when writing the life-affirming drops of this track. “Sigure” is at once a call-to-arms for clubland’s diehard music lovers as it is a celebration of life. As a live act, Matisse & Sadko embody the high-octane energy of their music, and few club-goers escape a Matisse & Sadko DJ set uncovered in sweat and without feet throbbing. “Sigure” has been tested on club and festival crowds and tweaked in the studio to its current state of aural bliss.
