Once ready, plans include making the AI system available to Houston Methodist partner hospitals in Saudi Arabia. HMH is a longstanding partner of a number of leading Saudi healthcare service providers such as King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center and King Fahad Medical City.

Dr. Stephen T. Wong, Chair of the Department of Systems Medicine and Bioengineering at Houston Methodist Research Institute, said that the software intelligently reviews millions of records in a short amount of time, enabling us to determine breast cancer risk efficiently. It is currently under development and evaluation at Houston Methodist but the team expects it to be ready in about a year.

THE FUTURE WITH AI

The AI has the potential to reduce unnecessary biopsies, save physician time, minimize patient discomfort, and provide more precise subtyping of breast cancer for the selection of optimal treatment options. Such an AI system will strengthen women’s trust in early detection possibilities. Web: houstonmethodist.org/global

The AI intuitively translates patient charts into diagnostic information 30 times faster and with 99 percent accuracy. The team used the AI software to evaluate 500 patient mammograms and pathology reports. The software scanned patient charts, collected diagnostic features and correlated mammogram findings with breast cancer subtype. Clinicians used the results to accurately predict each patient’s probability of breast cancer diagnosis. ADVERTORIAL
