Incident

Classroom Discipline Plan Classroom Rules · · · · ·

Follow staff instructions Treat everyone with respect. i.e. no swearing, teasing, name calling or put downs. Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself. Be properly prepared and equipped for all activities. Look after your own and schools property.

Consequences

Positive Recognition · · · · · ·

Praise - positive comment from member of staff Pleasing comment in student planner Merits - for effort and consistent good behaviour Positive notes home or ‘phone calls to parents Subject/pastoral rewards or certificates to collect for student profile (ROA) Special rewards - e.g. non uniform, retail vouchers, trophies

When a student chooses to break a rule the following consequences will apply which are progressive: 0 1 2 3 4 5

Verbal comment Verbal warning Student should be moved or sent out briefly 10 minute detention (break/lunchtime/after school) Lunchtime detention After school detention

Severe Clause This is used for severe misbehaviour and could lead to: · · ·

Removal from the class and sent to work elsewhere Isolation and removal of privileges Exclusion

The code is based on the “Key Values” which underpin the School Aims these are: - Honesty, Social Responsibility and Mutual Respect. The one main rule for the whole School is: - “Everyone will act with courtesy and consideration to others at all times”. This means that you: · make it as easy as possible in class for everyone to learn and for the teacher to teach (Arrive on time, with all the correct equipment, listen carefully and follow instructions) · Move around the School in a sensible and quiet way. (Keep to the left, never run or shout in the corridors, show good manners) · Always speak politely to everyone, try to listen and understand other people’s points of view. · Keep the School clean and tidy so that it is a place we can all be proud of. (Put litter in bins, keep walls and tables unmarked and respect displays) · Always remember that your own and the School’s reputation depends on the way you behave when out of school. This code applies to school visits and your conduct on the way to and from school each day. Classroom Expectations · Enter rooms sensibly, when told, and go straight to your place. · Arrive correctly dressed · Take out books, pens and other appropriate equipment · Remain silent whilst the register is taken and instructions are given and concentrate on what is being said. · Put up your hand to answer questions. Work sensibly with your classmates. Do not distract or annoy them. · Record homework accurately in your Planner · If you arrive late to or miss a lesson you need to make up work covered. · Act with respect and courtesy at all times and carry out all reasonable requests without argument End of Lessons · The end of lesson bell is a guide for your teacher. You should not pack away until told to do so. Only when the teacher gives permission should you leave the classroom and do so in an orderly fashion. Registration, Lunchtime and Breaktime · Treat the environment with respect. Eat and drink in the picnic areas or the canteen only, not in the classrooms or corridors. · Coats and trainers should not be worn around the School. · Fully respect the duties and decisions of the lunchtime supervisors. · Remain on the School site at all times unless you have specific permission to leave. Sign out if you leave the premises. · Never “mess around” or play fight - someone could get hurt Argoed High School -

Dear Parent/Guardian This is to inform you that your child has been placed on a green report due to the fact that he/she has appeared on the school Behaviour Log ……… times. He/She will need to present this report to their subject teacher at the start of each lesson. The teacher will then comment on their performance in that lesson. We ask that you read your child’s report each day and sign to show that you have done so. I will monitor his/her progress daily. As soon as an improvement has been noted your child will be taken off report.

Yours sincerely

Merits

Please regularly check how many merits each pupil has collected. Once they have received one of the numbers listed below please forward the house, pupils name and certificate required to reprographics where they are made ready to hand out in assemblies:

For the house competition you will need to forward a total of merits for your form to your head of house at the end of each term.

Registration Form registration will take place from 8.50 – 9.10 Monday – Friday. When taking the register only use the codes for present (/), not present (N) or late before register closes (L). Any pupil late after this point will need to ‘sign in’ in reception. Absence reports will be issued to LMs weekly and the reason for absence needs to be recorded and how the information has been provided (telephone call, planner or note) with any notes returned to reception with the completed sheet. DO NOT record any absence codes in SIMS as the administration staff will do this. Below is a list of activities for you to do with your tutor group during morning registration: · Monitor the use of planners and sign · Record each pupil’s merits on the sheets provided · There are puzzles and brain gym activities in a folder in general called ‘Registration’ · Reading boxes can be arranged with Karen Nichols (the librarian) if you want to work on literacy skills · A buddy system where pupils from KS4 will work with KS3 on activities so this will affect most tutor groups on a Friday · There will be an assembly each week – the day will vary depending on who takes the assembly but house assemblies will be as follows: Monday Daear Tuesday Aer Wednesday - Dwr Thursday - Tan · Collective worship/Thought for the day (it is statutory and available daily in SIMS)

If I choose to break a rule I will expect (the following progressive consequences) · a verbal comment · a verbal warning · to be moved or sent out briefly · a 10 minute detention (break/lunchtime/after school) · a lunchtime detention · an after-school detention
