A Word From Your

Lieutenant Governor! What’s up, Ninjas! Another month has passed and it’s most likely you all are still staying inside or maybe you’ve started going outside again. I have noticed that places have started opening back up and more people are going out again, but please remember to stay safe when going outside since this pandemic isn’t completely over yet. I’m hoping that Service Projects and Meetings will be in person soon. I'm hopeful that August will be our first in person DCM, but I'm still unsure what will happen in the future. I hope you all continue to stay safe and keep yourself busy so you don’t get too bored. Don’t forget, you can reach out to me anytime if you need help or just wanna talk! Hope to see you soon!

-Jade Nguyen

A Word From Your

Division News Editor!

Hello, hello, Ninjas! I'm Amesha and I'm serving as this term's Division News Editor! I've enjoyed seeing some of your faces during the DCM and the OTC, but I am SO ready for us to be able to meet in person. (Hopefully soon.) During my term expect to see newsletters like this one and maybe some other graphic designs of mine. Something new that I would like to try out is to devote a few pages of the newsletter to give updates on what is going on in the world. They will be brief but informative enough for us to understand current occurrences because events happening now will ultimately affect our futures. But in the meantime, make sure you stay somewhat busy and get off those electronics!! (After you finish reading the newsletter, of course.) Anyways, stay healthy and don't forget to smile!

RECAP!

RECAP!

On Saturday, June 20th, the D44N Ninjas joined forces with the D44S Dinos and the D44W Firefoxes to hold the June HydrOTC over Discord! Over 70 people were present at the virtual get-together. Based off the DCMs, there were 35 Firefoxes, 15 Dinos, and 20 Ninjas! There were members, officers, AND advisors. From playing Kahoot, to learning about what Key Club really is, members seemed excited to be SPLASHING into Key Club knowledge!

On May 25th, a devastating incident of police brutality took the life of a black man by the name George Floyd. For 8 minutes and 46 seconds, Floyd struggled with ex-police officer Derek Chauvin's knee on his neck before running out of oxygen and dying in police custody. This eye-opening occurence has changed the perspectives of many and sparked protests all over the world.

TIME TO REFLECT The day May 25th was a Monday. For many local school districts, that was the last Monday of distance learning. Think back on what YOU were doing on that day. Think about what YOU were doing during that specific time. At around 8:19 AM PST, George Floyd had already been pinned to the ground and at around 9:25 AM PST, George Floyd was pronounced dead. 8:19 AM. Some of us were blissfully sleeping. Some of us were eating breakfast. Some of us were on our phones. George Floyd will NEVER be able to do those things again. Regardless of your opinion on this topic, THAT is a fact. Yes, he had a counterfeit $20. But the repercussions of possessing a counterfeit should NOT be death. My own father acquired a counterfeit $100 bill through one of his customers and an officer was called to investigate. But he was not taken into custody, not arrested, not PINNED to the ground. Would circumstances have been different if the officer was not patient and considerate? Would they have been different if my father was of darker skin color? Though we can't go back and test those hypotheses...we CAN change for the FUTURE. Whether it be changing police policies (not just funding but police training), raising awareness, or merely supporting others, we HAVE to enact change.

"It is not enough to be non-racist, we must be antiracist." - Angela Davis

SUPPORT #BLACKLIVESMATTER WHAT CAN YOU DO? 1) STAY INFORMED Keep up with what's going on in the world. Watch the news and gather all perspectives of events. Watch, listen, and read to books, articles, movies, videos, etc.

2) SUPPORT CAUSES If you are able, please donate to causes that will be linked on the next page. But also donate TIME. Stream charity broadcasts on YouTube by black men and women to support their work.

3) CONTACT LOCAL OFFICIALS Contact local representatives by phone or email and let them know that WE CARE. Share your opinions about important policies in place. The more these officials are BOMBARDED with other opinions, the more likely they are to listen.
