Religion That Goes Beyond the Church Religious When Convenient

When you look at things happening around us you have probably noticed that religion is often used when it is convenient. We see it in government, the justice system, the media, even the church. In many ways society has developed a ―do you‖ attitude, with little regard for right and wrong. Some gravitate toward picking and choosing what is ok based their own feelings, having little tolerance for truths that do not line up with their personal beliefs. Apparently this is not all together new considering the bible speaks to this same issue; ―You say, ―I am allowed to do anything‖ but not everything is good for you. You say, ―I am allowed to do anything‖—but not everything is beneficial.‖ (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT) Morality Limited to Sundays another noticeable trend is the push to separate the bible and church from just about every aspect of life. There is widespread belief that religion and morality should be exclusive to the church. But is this really the way God intended for it to be? Consider the way the gospel was originally spread; Jesus selected a group of disciples to go out and preach things he had taught them. 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, ―I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.‖ (Matthew 28:18-19 NLT) As a result of the disciples work, churches developed all over the world. Today we seem to have gotten this reversed; we now look to the church to spread

the gospel instead of individual Christians Spreading the Gospel With most people faith is a very personal thing and something that is rarely shared openly. Think about people you know who will tell you most of their personal business but do not discuss their relationship with God. I realize this is partially due to many different religions or viewpoints about religion which can complicate discussion and creates tension. However, I wonder if the world would be better if Christians increased healthy dialogue about religion? Not in a condemning or forceful manner (i.e. legislating against same sex marriage or abortions) but out of love and the understanding that we all struggle with some type of issue. 10 As it is written ―There is no one righteous, not even one; Romans 3:10 (NIV) If religion is left exclusively to the church how can it reach those that do not go? You can reach more people outside of church than you can inside of church. People need to be reminded of God’s goodness at the mall, the grocery store, in the gym and any other place they frequent. ―Always be ready to give an answer when someone asks you about your hope. 16 Give a kind and respectful answer and keep your conscience clear. This way you will make people ashamed for saying bad things about your good conduct as a follower of Christ.‖ (1 Peter 3:15-16 CEV) Cornelius Davis outstandingapparel@live.com 5

ily, friends, and the police force and for going down this destructive path. As his heart hardens and he is caught up in his own battle of resentment and bitterness, he tries to shut Kerby out. But Rene, his Godfearing wife won’t allow that to happen. Instead she continually appeals to his conscience, reminding him of God’s unfailing love and Kerby’s need for his help. When Kerby uses his past identity as a police officer to rob the biggest drug dealer in Philly, a price is put on his head. Learning of Kerby’s latest antics, Herby, family and friends are challenged to push past their struggles to help keep him alive and break free of his addiction. Spiritual Themes: God’s unconditional love and healing power are evidence in this story about one man’s struggle to break free of a crack addiction and turn his life around. The other spiritual themes that stand out in Against the Gates of Hell are faith and hope as the reader gets a glimpse of struggles endured by family members and friends to forgive and be restored to the main character.

―Against the Gates of Hell: A Crack House Exodus‖. The following is a synopsis of the story: Kerby Wilson had always looked down on those who partook and pedaled drugs which claimed the lives of many in the streets. Now he finds himself duped by his own pride and going down a very desperate path of his own. Distraught over the death of his parents and the murder of a fellow police officer, Kerby alienates those closest to him, pushing them away-his wife, brother, police force buddies and old friends. As the bottom falls out of his life and darkness consumes his soul, he sells all that he holds dear for an elusive state of peace.

SIGNS OF EMOTIONAL DIVORCE

A man once bought a new radio, brought it home, placed it on the refrigerator, plugged it in, turned it to WSM in Nashville (home of the Grand Ole Opry), and then pulled all the knobs off! He had already tuned in all he ever wanted or expected to hear. Scripture says regarding our relationship with God, “But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” (Rev. 3:16 NLT) Then our same bible tells us that our marriage is likened unto our relationship with Christ. Hmm. Our walk with Him cannot be lukewarm, and neither can our relationship with our spouse.

Practice what you preach Are you married but emotionally divorced? Are you truly “one”, or two separate individuals living in the same house? It’s amazing how many preachers and leaders yell and shout against any form of divorce, yet they themselves live in a marriage where they are emotionally divorced. What’s the difference between a legal divorce or an emotional divorce? The overall decree is that the husband and wife should be one. Of course. However, If they are one in marriage on paper, and in the eyes of others (which includes the church, leaders, etc.) but not

truly "one" in unity and in their relationship, that is a sign that there is unresolved issues within the relationship and it does not pass the true test of "oneness" in the eyes of our loving Creator. His will and desire is true oneness; emotionally, spiritually, sexually, and in goals, vision and direction of life. In a more practical application, when a couple continues to live emotionally divorced, there is apparent unresolved anger, hurt and deep disappointment, which if left unchecked will eventually result in the physical act of divorce; It's really only a matter of time.

When did this happen? In our busy schedule, it can be hard to know exactly “when” the distance started until it’s irreversibly too late. We often liken this to when the presence of God departed from Samson. The bible says that Samson "wist not that the Spirit had departed." In other words, he didn't know the day, hour or moment when God's presence left him. And so it is is many Christian marriages. Church activities, ministries, life, children and other attention-grabbers slowly pull apart a marriage, and if that couple does not actively, forcibly maintain the closeness and oneness, they will eventually "drift" apart farther and farther until they are no longer a (Continued on page 13)

close-knit, loving couple. And, worse yet, they had no idea "when" the distance began to occur!

Broken vows, broken marriage IF A SPOUSE HAS DIED EMOTIONALLY TO THEIR PARTNER,THEY HAVE ALREADY BROKEN THEIR MARRIAGE VOWS. IF A SPOUSE HAS WITHHELD PHYSICAL INTIMACY FROM THEIRSPOUSE, THEY HAVE BROKEN THEIR MARRIAGE VOWS. David Harris quotes this from his writings:“…of the 33 verses in Scripture that refer to adultery, 23 state or imply the meaning given above by Funk and Wagnall, that of a married person engaging in voluntary sexual intercourse with someone they are not married to. As such this is certainly one Scriptural definition. There are however five verses that refer to this as the practice of turning from God to idols, practicing idolatry…There are also five verses that refer to adultery as the breaking of vows, normally marriage vows. The reason this must be the case is that the adultery is seen to be committed before the sexual act could have even been performed. For instance the adultery is committed upon the act of 'putting away 'without the idea of marriage or even sexual union taking place. Another case is where the act of marriage is just completed, but the adultery is taken as being before the consummation could happen… As you can see, adultery is ascribed not just to someone who has sexual intercourse with a person who they are not married to. Simply breaking the wedding vows will put the person in the same position, as will worshipping a false god.”

IF A SPOUSE HAS OPENED UP AND CONFIDED IN ANYONE OTHERTHAN THEIR SPOUSE, THEY HAVE BROKEN THEIR MARRIAGE VOWS. “FORSAKING ALLOTHERS, CLINGING TO THEIR SPOUSE..”

Watch for the signs

Some signs we can immediately look out for when we are in that situation… Lack of intimacy and sex Both work full time and do separate activities (spiritual or secular) Separate finances (checkbooks, bank accounts, etc.) Separate ministries and increasing time involved Are you confiding in external people as much or more than your spouse? (including friends, family, leaders in church, etc.) A decrease in empathy and overall caring Loss of interest in the other person An increase of external activities (spiritual orsecular) And increase of friends One ore more friends of opposite sex We can literally go on and on, but in conclusion, we could only encourage all couples to actively fight for the survival of their marriage. When we travel through our journey in life, watching the signs, being active, and staying alert will empower us to maintain our marriages as a healthy, loving, closeknit couple. And this, for all couples, is God's first and foremost will in our marriages.

The Poverty Mindset” “How many times have we heard the phrase “If I only had a million dollars…”, as if a million dollars would solve all problems known to man? Many of us have heard it, in fact many of us have probably stated it, but what can a million dollars do for a person with a poverty mindset. I’ve read stories of people who win the lottery only to become broke or bankrupt in a relatively short amount of time. And I asked myself “how did that happen?” But the answer is really simple. You cannot solve a money problem with money. You solve a money problem by renewing your mind.

nances but reacquire their losses fairly quickly. They temporarily lose their financial stature but retain the wealthy mindset. That mindset is what helps them overcome. Renewing your mind is not hard. It is simply updating your mental computer with new information. If your mindset is focused on impulse shopping, or cheap quality items, or relying on “hook-ups” you might be due for an upgrade. Start visiting places you don’t normally go and talk to people outside your familiar circle of acquaintances. Test drive cars you desire to own and start declaring out loud you will be back to get it. Collect magazines that highlight fancy recreational activities, luxury homes, and successful businesses and write your name on them. This might sound materialistic but it’s not. You are exposing yourself to a higher way of living and creating a wealthy mindset.

There may be good intentions of using money more wisely when it comes in, but how often does financial increase occur, yet there is no change in the situation and worse still, no real accounting of where the funds went. I was guilty of that. I had an objective to pay down bills once a bonus check was received. Soon after the money was exhausted the bills were still the same and I struggled to recall what happened.

Just recently I decided I want to own an airplane. When I told a few people in my circle they laughed and asked “how are you going to do that?” This immediately

let me know I was sharing my vision with the wrong individuals. I then visited a nearby aviation school and spoke with a flight instructor. I shared with him my desire and he responded “You can get a really cheap one if you go with an older model.” Again, I realized I was sharing my vision with the wrong individual. While standing on the airstrip I met a gentleman who owned a plane in a nearby hangar. I struck up a conversation with him and once again shared my vision. He said “That’s easy to do. And you have the option of recruiting investors to become part owners with you.” He proceeded to give me a sales brochure containing airplanes with some pretty hefty price tags. We exchanged contact information and I took the brochure home to familiarize myself with it. Initially the poverty thoughts of “how on earth am I ever going to afford that?” tried to bombard me, but as I continued to look through it, I started circling the ones I preferred. All of a sudden 2 million dollar asking prices didn’t look so out of reach. I do not own a plane yet, however, in my heart I do. My mindset regarding ownership of one has changed. It began with a vision, and after visiting an aviation school and sitting in an airplane I got a visual. After the visual I met a nice gentleman who came in agreement with my goal by giving me a brochure and I now have a roadmap. This is how renewing the mind starts. Do not get discouraged if you don’t have a group of supporters to cheer on your vi-

sion. That may just be a sign that you are sharing with the wrong individuals. Set your compass to think using a wealthy mindset and you will open yourself up to new ideas and possibilities that will turn your dreams into a reality. As the word says in Habakkuk 2:2-3, “Write the vision and make it plain…though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”

This workbook is a roadmap and devotional for all women who strive to meet the standard of the godly Proverbs 31 woman. Many books have been written about the Proverbs 31 woman, but I wanted to approach her from a different angle. I want to look at her as a SUPERb woman and remind you of the superb woman you used to – or hope to – be. We all have this potential to be like this highly regarded woman of God. But somewhere along the way our inner SUPERb woman got lost. God has endowed us with a natural and supernatural ability to do all things through Him. --So… why are we just getting by? Why are we settling for less? Why are your dreams bleeding and dying on the side of the road? I really want to know what happened to you. Who came and ran you off your race? Most importantly, what are you going to do about it?! If you’re not sure, that’s okay. I’ve come to help you find your way back home. Where is home? Home is the place where God intended you to be from the very beginning. Home is where the Proverbs 31 woman met God. This is where she held His heart while she shone the light of herself to the world around her, her family, her employees and her neighbors. Home is the place God intended you to be and the place your spirit longs for. The journey starts now… 17

GOD IS FOR YOU

Do you believe this statement? Do you really believe this statement?

GOD IS FOR YOU. And if God is for you, then no one— not yourself, your spouse, your parents or even your ministers—can be against you.

Romans 8:31 states that if God is FOR US, then no one else can be against us. NO ONE. I have to often remind myself that NO ONE can be against me—not even myself.

If God is for you and there is no condemnation for you because of Christ Jesus, then nothing can separate you from His presence or His blessings (clearly stated at the end of Romans 8). Not the anger that you hold toward someone. Not your ―mess up‖ after having become a Christian. Not the abortion you may have had, not the lustful thoughts you may think, not even the negative thoughts you have toward that person in your church or at work. Nothing can separate you from the Love of God.

Christians throughout history have believed the lie that God cannot be ―for you‖ if you fall short in any way. This is true pre-salvation; the Bible clearly states, ―for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God‖ (Romans 3:23, NIV). Yet the Bible also states in Romans 8:1 2, ―There is now therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death‖ (NIV).

GOD IS FOR YOU. You can come to Him just as you are. No strings attached. He is FOR you. He is not against you, and it is a lie to believe that anything you have done (even after becoming a Christian) will separate you from His presence or His blessing. His blessings are much sweeter when your actions

So what does this mean? This means that because of Jesus Christ, once we accept Him, we are not only freed from eternal damnation but also FREE to not perform for God in order for Him to approve of us. If works cannot save us (Ephesians 2:8, 9), works will not keep us saved.

are completely in tune with His heart, but He will never stop blessing His children because we are His children.

that you feel the power of sin literally break off you. Your desires are changed because your understanding of God’s heart for you has changed, and I am convinced that if a Christian has a all you want to do is love Him. Anyone hard time seeing God’s face and they who claims to understand Grace and believe that it is because of sin that is yet continues to live a lifestyle of sin separating them from God, then that has not really ever grasped God’s TRUE person believes a lie. I am convinced heart for them. The law in itself is a that you will never see His face clearly good thing—it just never had the power until you understand His heart –that to make you good. That’s why Jesus He is FOR YOU. Jesus died not just to had to die! Paul says it himself in Galaset you free from hell, but from yourtians 2:21: ―I do not set aside the grace self. If you cannot understand His of God, for if righteousness could be heart, then you misunderstand why you gained through the law, Christ died for are unable to dig deeper. nothing.‖ YOU DON’T HAVE TO PERFORM FOR HIM IN ORDER TO SEE HIM AS CLOSELY AS YOU DESIRE. You just have to believe and accept that He loves you, despite your failures. You have nothing to prove, and nothing to hide.

The power to overcome sin is found in an understanding of God’s heart, not in reinforcing the law. GOD IS FOR YOU.

I am constantly asking Him for a greater revelation of His heart for me, 1 John 2:1 says ―If anyone sins, we and a deeper understanding of His have an Advocate with the Father, Je- radical Grace in my life. I pray that sus Christ the righteous.‖ God does not everyone who reads this will know— say here that if anyone sins, he will be will really know – that God is really punished. NO! You see, under the for YOU!!! New Covenant of Grace, Jesus is your Advocate—the One who fights for you, Mandy Woodhouse the One who speaks up on your behalf, and the One who believes in you and in your future. 1 John 4:17 says that Jesus represents you before God as if you are like Jesus, therefore God sees you as He would see Jesus. Knowing that your sins are forgiven does NOT make you go out and sin more; in fact, a true understanding of Grace humbles you to such an extent 20

Hell Will Be Open, But The Gates Of Heaven Will Shut. Is Your Name On The Scroll, Did You Make The Cut. Did You Ashew Darkness, Walk Pleasing In God's Sight. Or Were You Hiding In The Shadows, Void Of The Light. Did You Care For The Least, Feed The Shepherds Flock. Or Did You Follow The Devil, Slithering Under A Rock. Are You Pressing Toward The Mark, To See Christ On The Throne. Or Are You Crucifying His People, By Casting The First Stone. Are You Being Both Judge And Jury, Handing Down Their Sentence. Or Are You Down On Your Knees In Prayer, Humbly In Repentance. Hell Won't Burst Wide Open, Because It Has No End. But Heaven's Not Your Home, If You're Caught In Sin. BEAUTY FROM WITHIN “After years of denial I finally discovered that beauty was not all about the outward appearance, it was buried deep within.”

Maureen Morgan Being black and British I always found it difficult to fit into society. Even living in Brixton, a melting pot of so many cultures. I seemed lost in the crowd. I was ambitious. I had a dream but lost all hope in fulfilling it. I allowed so many opportunities to pass me by. I had peer pressure, trying to keep up with the latest fashion, which only heightened my insecurities. I became increasingly self conscious about the way I looked and what I saw as my own self-image and how others saw me, a black woman. Yet to the outside world I was considered desirable, told I was beautiful, attractive, yet it meant nothing, compliments I felt unworthy of. Somehow I managed to hide my sense of worthlessness, by taking extra care on my appearance. I made sure that I always had expensive shoes and the latest must have bag and clothes. Only designer and well-known name brands would do. Everywhere I looked the TV, magazines everyone appeared glamorous and perfect. I thought, “How did they manage to maintain their beauty?” I tried to compete but although I had a full time job, financially I wasn‟t secure and my debts were getting worse because of my vanity. I bought things that I really didn‟t need, lost all sense of direction, ignoring the bills that were piling up. In the end my „make believe life‟ started to crumble, stripping me of everything.

I became depressed, turned to drink and drugs and isolated myself. My bedroom became my haven. I spent weeks just lying in bed in silence just listening to my heartbeat. I had thoughts of suicide but the repetitive sound made me think about life, my life and how I could change it.

I meditated on the word of God, I read Psalms 139 verses 14-17, I then realised that God had already planned out my life. I made it a personal prayer. “God I thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvellous and how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me O God.”

Image change I strongly believe that certain TV programmes really influenced my understanding towards life. I had low self -esteem, and lacked confidence. I thought I had to be a certain way. I desperately wanted to change my image. Even today so many people are accepting „image change‟ through plastic surgery as being the normal way of life. It‟s only an artificial product merely used to temporarily transform you. “You should not copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” So many people are ignoring the fact that in reality the true reason for our being here is simply because we were created by God. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth, God said, “Let us make man and woman in our image.” We‟re made in his image.

I began soul searching and found out that I was a woman of virtue, creativity, inspiration, and vision, and had a great future. I was beautiful to God, who created me to be that way. I stopped hating myself and started to appreciate my femininity. People see me now and say I don‟t look my age, or I haven‟t changed. Well I don‟t use any ageing creams and I feel young at heart. The secret to my inner beauty is in God‟s saving Grace. If you see yourself as not being beautiful, and you‟ve said, “I‟m the black sheep or the ugly duckling.” You have beauty inside. It does not have to be a beautiful face. Your beauty flows from within your heart and radiates outwardly the prominence of God. It‟s just like the sunshine when it gives rays of light. The warm heat soothes you like a healing balm, it makes you feel happy, and you glow. I had a negative outlook but that‟s now

I accepted God‟s love at my lowest time of despair and recognised that through reading the bible that my body was the temple for God‟s spirit and that my inner beauty was of great worth. God‟s showed me that his spirit was here on earth to work within me and bring healing and restoration.

changed, my mind has been renewed I have a positive view to life. Whether you‟re male or female you have treasures buried deep within. “This precious treasure, this light that shines in you is held in your outward body.” We have priceless gifts invested in us, the abilities that we have is not of ourselves, it‟s God‟s power dwelling in us. God is beautiful beyond description and we are reflections of God‟s glory. We have the ability to reflect God‟s character towards others by showing it in love, patience, forgiveness and kindness. We live and breathe the essence of life, your inward beauty is the real YOU, accept who you are, be yourself and your hidden qualities will rise to the surface, your countenance will glow with an aura that reveals your BEAUTY FROM WITHIN. “Give unto God the glory due unto his name and worship the Lord in the BEAUTY of his HOLINESS.” www.poetessmaureenmorgan.com

Dare to be me I refuse to live In comfortably Trying to be what others say I should be Because that never work for me See who I am Does not depend on what others say So don’t be flipping and tripping out because I'm acting a certain way Dare to be me, I say See, I know I made some mistakes, in life But I'm going to walk on, till I'll get it right I did some shameful things in the past but today I take of the mask The things I survive, I have a right To walk with my head up high because I do recognize That I am unique and special in every way Now today I challenge you to say Dare to be me

Dare to be me I'm determine to skip through life Like a leprechaun with a pocket full of gold I'm snatching back everything The enemy stole Where I plant my feet I shall have peace Because, I'm confident of who I am becoming God is the dweller of my soul And I'm getting too old To be told The same the lies that I dream to high Dare to be me It should be a crime To waste valuable time what others may think We need to be careful whom we link up with Don’t you think? God gave you a gift. Why aren’t you using it? by

LEE WILLIAMS

God loves us so much that he blessed us with unique gifts and talents. What is a gift, and how do you know that you have a gift? A gift is a skill or talent that we can do well with little effort or training. A woman in Stone Mountain, GA, provides us with an example of someone who used her Godgiven gift. Her story serves as a testament of what God can do for you if you allow him. She applied for a job at a prestigious hospital in Atlanta. When she went in for the assessment, someone accidentally gave her the wrong exam. However, she achieved a high score. She impressed the employer so much that she was offered a position on the esteemed heart specialist team – as a nurse -- not a nursing assistant. When she asked God why, he told her that he blessed her with such a prestigious job so that she could win souls for him. He told the woman that he chose her so when heart patients were about to receive their surgery and they were frightened with worry about their fate, she could whisper in their ear, “Trust God for your healing.” As a result of her obedience, many patients not only survived, but later found Christ. What she has is a gift because she has a knack for helping the sick that belies her formal education and training. Whether it’s medicine, music, writing, or helping others, we were all born with a gift. “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if

it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully,” Romans 12:6-8. Although many of us know we have a gift, we have decided to bury our treasure. Sadly, whenever someone encourages us to pursue our gift, we dismiss this advice. Do you know that when we do this we are making a mockery out of God? When you refuse to use your gift, you are stepping out of alignment with the path that God has chosen for you. God gave you that gift, and you will be judged on how well you used that gift. If you would only have faith, you would be able to fulfill your true purpose. Some of us have allowed fear, past failures and experiences, age, race, educational background, geographical locations, money, or physical limitations to keep us from our destiny, but we must persist. God did not give us the spirit of fear, doubt or worry. Maybe God chose you to find a cure for Cancer or AIDS or develop a way to ensure a safe return for our astronauts every time they journey in and out of space. God does not expect you to allow your gift to lay dormant. He expects you to cultivate your gift, and he will prosper you for your obedience. “A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great,” Proverbs 18:16. Do not bury your gift in the dirt like the servant in the parable of the talents, and risk being called wicked and lazy by God. Do not let the devil fool you into robbing God’s kingdom of the talent that he placed in the temple that lay within you. God gave you a gift. Why aren’t you using it?

Sinking in Quick Sand

Min. Cheryl Thomas As I was walking, I began to feel myself sinking in quick sand , As I began to panic, and become overwhelmed, at that very moment there appeared to be a figure of a man; I began to call out “ help me” I’m sinking deeper in this quick sand, I needed to get out of it, and realize know matter what, I will be able to stand; But, help me, help me I’m sinking deeper in life’s quick sand, I’m sinking deeper in problems, and situations; I’m sinking deeper in trials, tribulations and despair, I’m sinking deeper in this quick sand of life; Lord, can you please help me to be able to stand, I reached out my hand and felt a touch ever so gently, pulling my hand; As I looked up it was God helping, pulling me up enabling me to stand, Now, I’m know longer sinking deep in quick sand; All along I did not realize God was holding my hand, We must put our faith and trust in Jesus not in man; God holds our lives in the safety of His mighty hands, Thank God I am know longer sinking deep in quick sand; Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, And be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. AS LIFE’S LIGHT LEAVES MY EYES

We each have an appointed length of time allotted upon this earth. That day was predetermined prior to the split second of your birth. On my final day here; I cannot hold on to malevolence or offer alibis. I want to have a clean slate as the light of life begins to leave my eyes. When I come to a roadblock; a place that is depressing and very dark, Haters and their iniquitous ways put malicious thoughts in my heart. But I quickly ask God’s forgiveness; Jesus’ Holy Spirit gives me rise. His Spirit enables me to love my enemies while the light is in my eyes. I have been many places; experienced more than I can begin to mention. Some things along the way have continuously commanded my attention. One thing is that there will be people hard to love; it will take many tries. Yet, you have to love them in spite of; before life’s light leaves your eyes. There are those who will evoke wicked thoughts by their iniquitous deeds. We are obliged to show them compassion and try to understand their needs. Pray to God that their hearts will soften; must not mind the how’s or why’s, Pray that the light of Jesus shines upon them as life’s light leaves their eyes. Our charge is to spread The Gospel; while demonstrating Jesus’ affection. We must bear witness to Jesus’ goodness; His mercy and devoted direction. Let everyone that you encounter know; that in Jesus is where tranquility lies. Give your adversaries a chance at salvation before life’s light leaves their eyes. Is your soul at peace; Do you take shelter beneath Jesus’ never-ending wings? Or are you one who holds on to ancient grudges; or some equally wicked thing? If the first line of this verse does not describe you or your loved ones mortal lives, I invite you all to meet my Savior, Jesus, before life’s light leaves your dying eyes. BY: Sharon Reid-Robinson

The Power of Believing The POWER of believing Lies in the conviction of one’s mind The question is.. Do you truly believe you have what it takes this time? For the POWER of believing Lies in the conviction of one’s soul I ask… Is your conviction strong enough to achieve your life’s goal? For the POWER of believing Is knowing without a doubt That whatever path you choose With a made up mind You can bring it all about. For believing is simply the sowing of a thought in one’s mind Purposely planted Can bear the fruit of success over time It activate the senses Eliminating all defenses Creating and cultivating Formulating and generating Always motivating And never hesitating To stimulate Your thoughts As it terminates all doubt For that is what The POWER of believing is truly all about So we now know We have what it takes to make it every time For the POWER of believing lies in the conviction of our minds Just as we know there is nothing in this world That can stop us from achieving our goals As the POWER of believing lies in the conviction of our soul But the true power of believing Lies in our trusting in God Knowing whatever our heart desires That He’ll be there to do His part. Jehovah-Gmolah" The Lord of a Comeback Picture this: A fight has broken out between God and his opponent the devil. There has been much talk about the two being enemies but no one has ever heard of them ever meeting face to face. Until now-God is fed up with the devil and is sick of him trying to destroy his people. He declared enough was enough and he was determined to defeat him once and for all. The fight had been fixed and it was now finally time for the two opponents to duke it. Who would win, could the King of Kings loose to the one he had already defeated or would he walk away with the Victory once again. Would Satan trick God and steal the win of this battle or would the battle be tied? Just imagine God and Satan really fighting each other-picture them in a boxing ring with gloves ready to go at it. Think about it what would be solved, who would benefit from the fight? Most importantly why would they be fighting again when God already defeated Satan once and for all? God has won the ultimate fight when he annihilated death and conquered the grave! Christ is undefeated and can’t be outdone. When he devoured death he 33

overcame anything that could and would have destroyed us today. When he died on the cross many including the devil thought it was over but JehovahGmolah ,”The Lord of a Comeback” did otherwise when he rose three days later and proved himself once and for all. He is the same God who fed multitudes of people with 2 loaves of bread and five fish, he’s the same God who healed the sick, and brought Israel into their place in Canaan. He is a “The Lord of a Comeback” and he never loses. God will fight to bring his people through-he is all merciful, powerful-all authority and every victory belongs to him. The only fight he is in these days is to protect us and keep us from the hand of the enemy. The hard part has been done and the enemy has already been defeated. God proved this even in the Old Testament of the bible when he spoke through Jeremiah stating that Babylon would be destroyed because of the hurt they did to his people. Time and time again God would prove how much Israel meant to him in spite of their shortcomings. They were his people and he loved them. He vowed to keep them and favor them

above other nations for they were made in his image and were created for his purpose. Through their lives his glory would be revealed, so he did what was needed to keep them from being harmed. God revealed himself in Jeremiah 51 to be “the God of retribution” which means he would punish those who did harm to his people. He would pay back evil for evil and punish those who stood against what belonged to him. There is no need for us to fight our battles because God does and he already paid the price for our debt of sin. There is no need to be slave to anything because we were brought with a price that can’t be outbid. No one could buy us for the price Christ did-he paid it all. We are his redeemed seed, which means we are a predicate of his good doing and sowing. The life he lived and died was our token to freedom and no devil in hell could stop that. There is no need for us to try and get revenge on those who mistreat, persecute, offend, blame, or even condemned us God has a way he will deal with it all. What we can do now is stand in his Victory and operate in the freedom that belongs to us. God has paid the price for us to have this. Live in it today and don’t fret about those who try to do harm to you. Let God fight for you and let him because he will win time and time again. He won the ultimate fight when he defeated the enemy over 2,000 years ago! You will win just stay in the will and plan of God. Let him bring you through whatever you’re facing. He is Jehovah-Gmolah which means defeat is not an option only Victory! Choose to live in victory it’s yours in Jesus name.

Leaders To Beware And Avoid

By: Apostle Dr. Lee Ann B. Marino, Ph.D., D.D . We all know the essence of accountability and how important it is for us to have leaders in our lives that point us toward the calling God has bestowed upon us. If you follow my posts, you will note I've done several on covering: things we need to do when we are covered, as well as things coverings need to do. It's a balancing act that has challenges and complications on both ends and requires a partnership and growth for both coverer and covered to become all they can be. It can be difficult to find the right balance needed in leaders today. The reason for this is because so many different concepts of leadership exist, and the process of selecting a leader thereby becomes confusing. Many people errantly are drawn under leadership that can be bad for them. A leader may come along and seem great in some ways, promising in some, and even powerful in others, but something gnaws at us telling us something isn't ringing true. There are some leaders that we

just shouldn't attach ourselves to because they aren't going to benefit us in any way, shape, or form - and inversely, we can't benefit them. The list below of leaders to beware applies to both being covered AND to covering, and are just good signs to avoid in general, whether in a leadership, follower, friendship, or ministerial alliance capacity. The Prissy Preacher - We've all met them. The preacher who just HAS to fly first class, HAS to have an entourage follow them everywhere to make sure they're "taken care of," HAS to have their water temperature "just right" or they will spit it out or make a fuss, HAS to spend $100 for dinner...and then doesn't even give in the offering. This is the "Prissy Preacher," the minister who has to have everything "just so" or just can't do ministry. The problem with prissy preachers is that people accommodate them. If we step back and truly examine preachers who behave like this, they often aren't that great at minis(Continued on page 38)

try; there are lots of other people without so many requirements who will do a better job. They get their positions and reputation in ministry because of who their parents are or who their leaders are. They throw tantrums, start arguments, and get their own way through a childlike intimidation. When they don't get their own way, they start lecturing on "integrity." Let's define integrity, shall we? It means not acting like a spoiled, prissy child.

and they won't hesitate to talk about what they know of you (or feel they know of you) when you're not within earshot. It's fine to talk to friends, it's fine to talk to coworkers in ministry - but as an apostle I heard recently speak, "Talk to an equal or a superior - not a subordinate." The Solicitous Scheister - Everyone needs to beware connecting to a leader who comes and tells you they "want" to be your covering or that God has "revealed" to them that they are to be your covering. Covering is a drawing between the leader and the person under them. It is a positioning for power, purpose, and destiny. It is not something where one person gets a revelation and then has to convince the other person of it. Covering is not a con-job. Itâ€&#x;s not convincing someone you are a leader that is worthy of covering them: it is being a worthy leader, and that speaking for itself. When someone is a good leader, they don't need to solicit people to be under their covering. Beware the leader who makes all sorts of advances on you to be under them - they are up to no good and they know it!

The Chatty Cathy - In today's church, people seem to need to talk, a lot, about everything. I am not one to throw stones here - I know how difficult it can be to get people to listen and that means when we are going through things, we talk to those who will listen. We need to be selective about what we share and to whom, however. I've known coverings who reveal all their personal details to those they cover - and this is totally and completely inappropriate. The people we cover aren't sounding boards for our emotional or life situations. On the inverse, I've covered people who delve into very personal and inappropriate details with me because they simply "want to talk." People who talk too much - too often - and about too many things need to be avoided because you better believe gossip is a rampant issue with these types. If they talk so freely about others and themselves - you better believe you aren't getting the full story about them

The Used Car Salesman - A used car salesman will say anything, do anything, lie, cheat, or steal to sell you a lemon of a vehicle. The used car salesman as a leader is someone who will do anything to make you think they are the greatest 38

leader in the world, and at any cost. You can have the world, and then some...if you will only come under their leadership. They promise to pay for things in your ministry, help you out, do this, that or something else...and it's all a big lie as they sell you themselves: one big lemon of a leader. These are leaders who are into making themselves look good - they will polish up nicely, present perfectly, and even say and do all the right things...but underneath, there is nothing there. I know it's tempting to jump headfirst into a situation where a leader promises to do things left, right, and sideways. It's a big temptation to come under a leader who promises to pay for various items, give you opportunities, or someone who just seems well-connected and acts interested in what you are doing. Just remember: underneath all that shiny polish is one big lemon you don't want to entertain at the end of the day.

have some sort of association or institute by which people are offered some kind of education, but they have no knowledge of those people, don't talk with them, couldn't recognize them from a hole in the wall, and don't even know who any of them are. Beware these people who may sound really famous, but are just empty ministers who are terrible leaders. Their claims are a lot bigger than their fruit...which becomes obvious when you consider it is not possible to cover hundreds and thousands of people. It is possible to have that many people follow or interested in a ministry, but it is not possible to be the covering for and truly impact that many people in a covering context. The Crisis Creator - All of us in ministry encounter problems. We all have difficulties, crisis, and things we face because ministry is a hard walk. Then there are those who seem to have crisis...after crisis....after crisis...with no end in sight. People who constantly attract disaster don't understand warfare. They don't know how to fight the enemy and overcome victorious, which means they are constantly in situations to be attacked. The avoidance of crisis comes about through discernment, which they clearly lack. These people can easily become spiritually and emotionally draining because they constantly need something from those around them. This is especially true because they tend to lose support systems because they are always

The Sperm Donor - I use this term to be funny....but also to make an illustration. When a man donates to a sperm bank, his sample or samples can be used to impregnate any number of women. He may not know how many and may not know who they are, but he knows he has "spawned" any number of children - with no relationship with them whatsoever. Ever meet one of those people who insists they cover hundreds or thousands of people? Odds are good, this person is using the term very loosely. They may 39

'going through' something and people long become tired of dealing with them and their issues. When someone is in crisis after crisis after crisis, they thrive on the attention of misfortune and don't have any intention of developing true warfare strategy to get where they need to go to be victorious in ministry. People like this create crisis and stress for others, and should be avoided for this reason.

course not - the drama driver created it so they know exactly what to do to fix it! Manipulation, manipulation, manipulation! The Parasite - Parasites survive and thrive by feeding off their host. A ministry parasite does the same thing: they feed, thrive, and survive by feeding off the host of a good minister or ministry. In actuality, they may have little to no direction for their work, no purpose in ministry, and no real ministerial call, to speak of. They operate by usurping the anointing of those around them. They seem small, but they are mighty, and have this way of reproducing themselves until they destroy whatever is in their wake.

The Drama Driver - Akin to the crisis creator is the drama driver. The drama driver too thrives on crisis after crisis. The difference between the two is that the drama driver seeks to create drama in the lives of everyone around them not just for themselves. They thrive on the division chaos creates and takes every possible opportunity to seem like the answer to every problem. They do not have a legitimate call and seem to be unable to minister or offer their gifts without creating a crisis. Ministries can't handle constant drama. In order to maintain a sense of decency and order, every good minister knows the importance in maintaining a sense of peace. Drama drivers can't handle peace because it doesn't give them the opportunity to rise up and appear more competent than everyone else. The drama driver creates the situation then becomes critical and judgmental about the way others handle it - because, naturally, nobody can handle it better than they can! Well, of

The Lazy Daisy - Remember being assigned to a group project in school? Remember the kid you hated being assigned to work with because you always wound up doing all the work and they always wound up taking all the credit? Well these are those kids we worked with back then all grown up. Maybe grown up is the wrong term: they are bigger, not grown up. Excuses abound with the leader who is just, simply put, lazy. They don't ever follow through on what they said they would do. They are just so busy (doing nothing), they aren't able to complete their promises. Lazy ministers often expect other people to do their work for them and "piggy back" on the anointing of those who are ready, willing, 40

and able to work. The problem with lazy ministers is that, well, they are lazy. They don't pull their own weight but are the first to take the credit when something is noteworthy or praised. When working with others, everyone should bring their own part, their own gift, their own participation, and we should work together. Lazy leaders who are afraid to work or get their hands dirty are leaders who don't deserve to participate in the first place.

it's a simple and true fact. We aren't going to like everyone, and everyone isn't going to like us. The problem is when someone is consistently at odds with EVERYONE they seem to come in contact with. Beware people who just seem to be against everyone because it won't take much for them to become against you, too. The Big Baby - It's amazing to me how immature some leaders are. Gone are the days when they steal toys when no one else is looking, throw temper tantrums because they don't want to go to bed early, and pout because they don't like what's served for dinner. Now these ministerial big babies steal anointing, ideas and gifts, throw temper tantrums because somebody puts them in their place, and pouts because nobody thinks they are as fantastic as they perceive themselves to be. Big babies are always getting angry, their feelings hurt, offended, wounded, and feel perpetually "picked on." They cannot take correction or stand in the face of trial because they simply do not have the ability to handle it. Not much fun to be around or much fun to cover, big babies disgrace the ministerial office with their childish nonsense, reasoning, and misappropriated behavior. Correction to such a person causes them to pout and retaliate in some immature way. It's always somebody else with them - they accept no responsibility. Being around a big baby is exhausting - not

"Doesn't Work And Play Well With Others" - Remember Kindergarten? We got marks for certain things: coloring inside the lines, staying in our place in line, cutting on the straight line, and working and playing well with others. The ministers I am talking about weren't the ones who worked and played well with others they got the mark on their report card that said, "Runs with scissors." As much as all of us hate it, ministry is largely about our ability to interact with others. We can be the best preachers in the world, the most prolific leaders and teachers, but if we can't interact with others in a dignified and gracious manner, we are not going to get very far in ministry. We need to be able to handle basic interactions without a ton of aggression, throwing a fit, bursting into tears whenever someone doesn't like us, or secondguessing every comment geared in our direction. Not everyone in the church is going to get along with everyone else 41

cannot be considered legitimate ministry. The Disorganized Disgrace - I am the first one to admit I am not the world's neatest person. I am, however, a person who is very organized despite not being neat. I am able to finish what I start and maintain projects and information. When dealing with the issue of disorganization, we need to be careful not to mistake neatness for organization - because the two are very different. A disorganized disgrace is someone who can't keep up with the basics of ministry. They are forever falling behind, misplacing things, and unable to complete basic tasks because they just do not apply themselves to ministry. In essence, a disorganized minister has issues with order in general: they may take issue with authority within the fivefold, dislike titles, carry issues of rebellion against authority and behave in manners of disobedience, and, most especially, take issue with God's order. Disorganized ministries don't get much done. They talk a lot, have a lot of hypothetical events, tell people about this, that or something else, but nothing ever comes out of their talk. This is different than sharing a vision that takes some time to come to pass: the point is that all they do is talk about things but don't display the needed discipline to bring anything to pass. Disorganized disgraces are tiresome to work with: they are argumentative, disordered, and don't want to hear anything they don't want to deal with. Their lives operate on a chaos that

The Suffocating Lid - Some people don't have a covering - they have a lid. The lid stifles every idea, thought, and vision they have. They are all about control: controlling the vision, controlling the person, dominating their lives. They confuse order with abuse and obedience with control. Nothing is good enough, right enough, or correct enough for these leaders. These ministers don't build up leaders in the Kingdom, they build them in their own image. Abusive leaders are stifling leaders. They are stifling as friends, as coverings as associates because everything has to be their way all the time. They mistreat those in their lives in the struggle and mighty dominance for control. Everything is about THEIR vision, THEIR ministry, assisting THEM. Nobody is ever ready, in their mind's eye view, to do anything that is not all about their service. This is not order, it's witchcraft! From a suffocating lid...RUN!
