Charter School Business Management Accounting and Financial Services Raj Thakkar 52 New York City, New York

COMMITMENT TO EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE As director of Charter School Business Management (CSBM), Heather Blumberg and her team manage $150 million of public funds for education clients they serve in the New York City area. Sharing CSBM’s belief in the potential of the charter school movement to remedy the country’s educational inequities, Blumberg joined the company in 2009 as a financial consultant, and quickly rose through the ranks to become director in 2012. In addition to leading her team of finance managers, she serves as a financial thought partner for her clients and provides professional development focusing on fiscal management for education leaders, their governing boards, and finance and operations teams.

Ensuring fiscal viability and accurate financial audits is paramount for the highly scrutinized charter school sector. Recognizing that many charter school closures are the result of financial mismanagement, Blumberg is driven to safeguard the staff and students of these schools, most of which are located in impoverished neighborhoods within Harlem, the South Bronx, and various parts of Brooklyn and Queens. Blumberg’s colleagues say her unwavering commitment to excellence has had an enormous impact on the company and its clients. They say she selflessly devotes as much time as necessary to the professional development of her staff, empowering them to succeed in their

careers. Blumberg believes the most important quality a woman leader should have is humble confidence. “I think it’s important to be both confident and approachable,” she said. In both her career and her personal life, Blumberg is committed to using her expertise to benefit disadvantaged communities. Prior to joining CSBM, Blumberg served as a director of operations and business development coordinator for Oasis Children’s Services. She holds a BA in government from the University of Virginia and an MPA from NYU, Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Words she lives by: “Stand for what you believe in; work hard, play hard.” PDJ
