Dr. Jon Lamberson Superintendent Riverside Public Schools District 96 163 Woodside Road Riverside, IL 60546 lambersonj@district96.org RE: Hauser Gym Dear Dr. Lamberson: It has come to our attention that light fixtures have been direct attached onto the underside of existing Tectum panels in the Hauser Gymnasium. Subsequently, a light fixture became detached from the mounting and the gym has been closed. Tectum direct attached interior ceiling panels are not intended to have any object direct attached to the underside of the panel. The object must be mechanically attached through the Tectum panel into a structural member above. Toggle bolts into the Tectum panel are not recommended. As in Hauser’s small gym and Ames’ gym where the fixtures were bolted to steel joists and at Central where they were attached directly to the laminated wood beams, the fixtures at the Hauser Gym should be mechanically attached to a structural member above the Tectum panel.
