Audi was amongst the first major manufacturers to take an interest in autonomous technology, and began testing driverless systems as of 2013. Audi has claimed that the new A8 model will be the first fully autonomous car on sale and is due to hit the market this year. Level 2 autonomous features include ‘traffic jam assist’ , which is able to fully control the car in congested traffic up to 60mph, and park assist, which does exactly what you’d expect it to via a smartphone app. The next generation A8, A7, A6 and new Q8 cars in Audi’s autonomous range are also reported to include predictive technology that learns about user behaviour and preferences. The cars will also monitor the driver and switch to a ‘fail-safe’ mode if they fall ill or leave the driver’s seat. Audi has been working with American software company

includes an autopilot function which reads the surrounding environment and makes decisions based on real-time information. Audi also demonstrated their autonomous Q7 model at the conference. The automaker has received permission to begin testing on public roads in California and other State in 2018.
