TEAM SPIRIT Our area has six professional sports teams including: the Twins (baseball), Vikings (football), Wild (ice hockey), Timberwolves (men’s basketball), Lynx (women’s basketball) and Minnesota United FC (major league soccer). The region also is home to two semi-professional sports teams, the Saint Paul Saints (baseball) and Thunder (soccer) – as well as two roller derby teams – Minnesota RollerGirls and North Star Roller Girls. The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers also offer an array of college sports.
OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASM Hundreds of miles of biking and walking trails connect St. Louis Park and Golden Valley to downtown Minneapolis, the Chain of Lakes and surrounding western suburbs. GO RETRO We’re big on nostalgia. Opened in 1988, the Pavek Museum preserves the history of electronic communication and provides education on the science of electromagnetism and sound. It houses a unique collection that includes rare pieces such as a Magnetaphon, Philco Mystery Control Radio, Theremin, and a Spark Gap Generator. The Museum is also home to the Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The Roller Garden, Minnesota’s #1 roller skating rink, turns 50 this year. Guests can choose from roller or inline skates as they circle the floor accompanied by a superb sound system and disco lights. The skating center offers a variety of skate times, lessons and space for parties/special events.

The Park Tavern Bowling & Entertainment Center has been a local favorite for over 50 years, with bowling, arcade games, casual dining, an outdoor patio, and a full bar with big screen TV viewing. Under Pressure Brewing Company recently opened its doors and is starting to make a name for itself in the area. Warehouse Winery offers an amazing array of red wines. The venue is a great space for weddings and corporate events and they offer tours to groups of 10 or more. Copperwing Distillery specializes in gin, vodka, whisky, and their signature blend vodskey. They offer tours and tastings, mixology classes, and, of course, craft cocktails.

It features a “wade-in� water playground, two four-story water slides, drop slides, a diving area, lap swim lanes, water obstacle course, a sand-and-water play area, a picnic area, gazebo, concessions and more. The Aquatic Park can be reserved for private functions. Brookview Golf Course & Lawn Bowling 316 Brookview Parkway S, Golden Valley Brookview features both a Par 3 and a regulation golf course, as well as 8 lawn bowling rinks. A new event facility offers banquet and meeting space for up to 200, decks with sweeping views, a full-service restaurant with an outdoor patio, and the Backyard, an indoor playground with three stories of slides, cargo climbs and tunnels. In winter, Brookview is home to fat tire biking, cross-country skiing, disc golf, snowshoeing and skijoring. Carpenter Park Skate Park 4900 Hwy 7, St. Louis Park This 6,500 sq. ft. all concrete outdoor skate park is designed with stairs, rails, mini half-pipe and more to replicate a plaza-style skate park. Oak Hill Park Splash Pad 3201 Rhode Island Ave S, St. Louis Park The 2,350 sq. ft. Splash Pad lets tots activate bubbling hoses, water nozzles and sprinkler arches. The Rec Center 3700 Monterey Dr, St. Louis Park The Rec Center houses two indoor ice arenas for year-round figure skating and hockey, plus event space for classes, meetings, and parties. Recreation Outdoor Center (ROC) 3700 Monterey Dr, St. Louis Park During winter months, the ROC houses a covered ice rink for hockey, open public skating, broomball and other special skating events. In the spring, it can be converted to a turf field for baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse, as well as special events such as the annual spring egg hunt. During the summer, a dry concrete floor provides space for the Children First Ice Cream Social and a variety of other special events from weddings to movies in the park, to graduation parties. Skating & Sledding Each winter, city crews flood rinks in various city parks. In St. Louis Park, the rink at Oak Hill Park features a warming house and colored lights that shine from mid-November through midFebruary. Altogether, the city has 10 parks with outdoor rinks, including 5 with warming houses and lights for evening skating and hockey. There are also 10 parks with sledding hills, 3 of which have lights. In Golden Valley, there are 10 parks with outdoor rinks, including 7 with warming houses and lights. Golden Valley also has 2 designated sledding hills.

Westwood Hills Nature Center 8300 W Franklin Ave, St. Louis Park
Theodore Wirth Regional Park is shared between the cities of Minneapolis and Golden Valley. It boasts over 740 acres and is home to two golf courses and a disc golf course. The off-road cycling trail offers more than 5 miles of cycling, hiking, mountain biking, and snowshoeing. In summer, Wirth Beach is perfect for swimming, fishing and sand volleyball. At the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary you’ll find more than 500 plant species and 130 bird species. The Trailhead at Theodore Wirth, complete with a Cajun-themed eatery, is the hub for all outdoor activities. In winter, try cross-country skiing, snowboarding, sledding and tubing.
Westwood Hills Nature Center offers 160 acres of marsh, woods and restored prairie. More than 3 miles of trails and walkways offer ample birdwatching and wildlife spotting, including deer, turtles, fox, mink and owls. In summer, explore Westwood Lake by canoe or try your hand at fishing. In winter, snowshoes and kicksleds are available for rent. The Interpretive Center houses classrooms, exhibits, live animals and restrooms. They offer educational programs year-round and annual special events.
REGIONAL BIKE TRAILS Cedar Lake Trail Length of Trail: 3.6 miles This trail links St. Louis Park to downtown Minneapolis. It has separate lanes for bikers and walkers. It begins at the east frontage road of Highway 100, passes by Cedar Lake, goes near the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and ends at 12th and Glenwood in downtown Minneapolis. At midpoint, this trail also links to the Midtown Greenway Trail via the Kenilworth Trail. There is no automobile parking at the trail entrance. Cedar Lake Extension Trail Length of Trail: 4.3 miles This paved trail connects the Cedar Lake Trail from downtown Minneapolis to the Southwest Trail in Hopkins following the Hutchinson Spur rail line. Along the way, it passes by industrial and residential areas as well as Dakota Park, Aquila Park and Minnehaha Creek. Automobile parking is located at Dakota and Aquila parks. Cedar Lake LRT Regional Trail Length of Trail: 5 miles This paved trail goes from the Kenilworth Trail near 31st and Chowen Avenue to 11th Avenue in Hopkins. It follows the rail line along Hwy 7 and continues west through Hopkins to Chaska. The Southwest Trail also links east to the Kenilworth and Midtown Greenway Trails in Minneapolis.

Luce Line Regional Trail Length of Trail: 9 miles (Connects to Luce Line State Trail for an additional 63.9 miles into rural Minnesota) The 9-mile section of paved trail between Theodore Wirth Regional Park and Plymouth and Golden Valley in the western suburbs of Minneapolis is part of the Three Rivers Park District trail system. To the east, it links to the Minneapolis Grand Rounds Scenic Byway trail network and skyline views of Minneapolis. To the west, it follows Bassett Creek through Golden Valley to Plymouth, where Medicine Lake forms the backdrop to wooden bridges that overlook the Bassett Creek marshlands. The trail then passes through suburbs and wooded stretches, across wetlands, near lakes, through tallgrass prairie remnants, and into the countryside over varying surfaces. Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway Trail Length of Trail: 4 miles (Part of the greater 51 mile Grand Rounds system) The Grand Rounds is one of the country’s longest continuous systems of public urban parkways. Fifty-one miles of walking and biking trails go past lakes, creeks, woodlands, riverbanks, and wetlands, as well as constructed features, such as canals, lagoons, greenways and parks, playgrounds, golf courses, athletic fields, picnic grounds, gardens, and bridges. The system consists of seven segments, with a four-mile stretch traveling through Theodore Wirth Park.

At Westwood Hills Nature Center you’ll find an oasis of nature nestled at the edge of St. Louis Park. Trails lead you along a wooded hillside, through a cattail marsh and around picturesque Westwood Lake offering anything from a short quarter-mile stroll to a three-mile hike. A new nature center building project will begin in 2019. The park will be open during construction.

Founded in 1886, St. Louis Park has grown from a village of 45 families to a community of just under 49,000 residents.

St. Louis Park is home to retail stores, restaurants, medical facilities, family-owned businesses, corporations, churches and synagogues. St. Louis Park has nationally renowned educational institutions and youth programs. St. Louis Park Public Schools are International Baccalaureate schools that aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. In 2017, the Washington Post ranked St. Louis Park High School as the 8th highest rated high school in Minnesota. Children First, an initiative that brings the community together to support children and teens, is based in St. Louis Park. St. Louis Park offers year-round outdoor recreational opportunities. There are 52 parks scattered throughout the city for residents to enjoy and biking and walking trails connect us to downtown Minneapolis, the Uptown area, Hopkins and Chaska.
A first ring suburb of Minneapolis, Golden Valley combines suburban appeal with urban flair. Diverse housing opportunities include singlefamily homes, waterfront properties, affordable apartments, and more. Golden Valley has historic homes dating back to World War II, as well as newly developed neighborhoods. A great place to raise kids, Golden Valley is served by two award-winning school districts, the Perpich Center for Arts Education, and Breck, one of the best private schools in the area. Golden Valley is also home to nine community parks, 11 neighborhood parks, and 11 nature areas, all connected to an extensive trail system that passes ponds, a beautiful winding creek, and picturesque golf courses, providing endless opportunities for outdoor activities. Fun Fact: No one is quite sure how Golden Valley got its name. Was it named for acres of wheat glimmering in the sun, golden daffodils dotting the hillside, or did Irish immigrants name the village after the Golden Vale of Shannon? We may never know for certain. St. Louis Park is home to the oldest operating Jewish newspaper, The American Jewish World, which started in 1912. Today, the publication unites the main Jewish communities in Minneapolis and St. Paul and greater Minnesota.
