A chevron became the predominant graphic shape used throughout the book. On the cover, slices of six photos representing the six traditional sections of the book formed the shape. The chevron shape became a transparency over a large photo in the opening, on the dividers and in the closing. For content spreads, the shape became part of the headline packages and a caption starter. Headlines in the chevron shape also appeared on interrupter spreads which focused on individual student profiles. Each section had its own recurring mod, like “In Your Face” student profiles in sports and “Just the Facts” fast-fact boxes in events.
